This is the best tacos in the area hands down. I will take you through my experience pretty descriptively to let you get a feel of the place. I went for the first time on a weekday lunch rush, and I went again last night around 6 – 6:30 for supper. I got word of this place from a recommendation from a friend but i still had very low expectations going into this place. Kansas city has a lot of good food, but it is surprisingly hard to find good Mexican food. This is especially true for«authentic» Mexican food. When I walk in, the first thing that stood out to me was the giant meat counter in the back, and the chunk of meat on a spit by the ordering station. This was a good sign in my eyes because fresh meat really makes a taco go from decent to fabulous. Another thing i noticed was that the items on the menu were cheap. I ate with two people and two drinks for $ 15(sans dessert) so this is not a place that will break the bank. It is also a grocery store and has all kinds of good stuff(I am a large fan of the guava soda) so you can pick up spices or mexican cooking ingredients or real chicharones as well as order food. The menu of the place was a little limited, but in a good way. It is a taqueria so obviously they were very specialized around tacos. There were other things like burritos and tomales(12 for around 10 $ is a score). When ordering food, you go up to the prep counter and say your order directly to the cooks. There is usually a bit of a line but it doesnt take too long and the food is definitely worth it. I ordered Pastor tacos and my significant other ordered the Carnitas tacos. Right next to the counter there is a station with all the sauces they had and a couple ingredients for the tacos. I was very excited when I saw this because it had no cheese or lettuce or anything you would find on an average midwestern taco. I tried all of the sauces first to decide what was going on the tacos and the spiciest that was not the habanero was my favorite(even though that was good too). All of these sauces are a little bit creamy and the heat is slow burning and not immediate at all. It also had less heat than i imagined and I could easily take the hottest sauces. They had a lot of flavor, though and the consistency was more water than molasses(low viscosity). I put white onion, and cilantro on my tacos when i got them and the significant other had pico, cilantro, and onion. They also used a much less spicy sauce than i did. First impression of the taco was from the tortilla. Being in the midwest you dont really see good tortillas. You only really see starchy flour tortillas, but this was really great. It was a nice texture and had good flavor The meat was well prepared and not too hard or dry both times I went. There was a couple of hard spots but I overlooked it because the taste was there. The seasoning was not too prominent to cover the meat flavor yet you could taste it. I personally like the pastor better than the carnitas but both were good. When eating the taco it is a little bland without the sauces, but adding the sauces the tacos are wonderful. Really good flavor, nice texture(other than the couple hard pieces), and leaves you wanting more. The 4 tacos are filling and they even offer 5 tacos for 6 $ if you are a big eater. After eating our tacos we ordered the churros at the counter and they were fantastic. It was one of the best churro ive ever had. The cream filling was sweet but not overly sweet, the dough was cooked through but not hard, and the outside was crisp and had a slight crunch. I would almost debate driving the ten minutes from my house for just the churros alone and I definitely would get more than one next time Im there. Overall i had two good experiences with the tacos made here and I would definitely recommend to a friend. The only problems were that the line is sometimes long, there is a little bit of a disconnect between ordering and getting food, and there is not really a prominent water station or way to get a drink. When I was looking around for the water I didnt see any water or soda machine prominently displayed so i bought some sodas from the grocery store. It isnt that big of a deal but i would like to eat without having to buy bottled water(which they had). The disconnect I mentioned was because after your order, they ask you if it is here or to go and if it here they dont say something like«have a seat and we will call you up» or anything. Some people stand right by the counter and some find seats and you aren’t really sure what you should do for a little bit(i got sauces and sat down). Same with paying. They dont necessarily have you pay after getting the food, you can pay when you leave too so you are a little confused about what you should be doing. These are both minor issues, though, and they definitely wont keep me from coming back!

This is FORREAL old-school Mexican food, as evidenced by the demographics of employees and customers alike. And the food is decent and reasonably priced and hey, you can pick up some groceries while you’re here. For me(and I freely admit this is lame), the lack of rice/beans and chips/salsa is a downside, but you can’t beat it for authenticity.

I always buy my tamales here. They’re about the best you can find in Kansas City. Lots of other goodies in here too but I haven’t tried them yet. Got some good whole wheat tortillas here.

Used to be my little secret place but the secrets out and this little tortilla shop is constantly busy. Everything from their hormone free all natural meat market to their preservative free hibachi grilled authentic Mexican street food. Get you meats cut to size or sit down and watch the tortillas being made right in front of you! Love this place and the people are fantastic

This is one of the rare authentic Mexican restaurants in the KC area. The tacos, burritos, and tamales never disappoint. The store is set up like a market with a food area. When you come in place an order at the grill, meander around the butcher and produce, pick up your order, top it with your favorite fresh salsas or hot sauce, eat, pick up a back of those amazing tortillas and pay on your way out. Come here if you want cheap, fresh, fast, and incredible food provided by a friendly staff.

One of the few authentic Mexican restaurants in KC. This place specializes in Mexican street food like tacos and burritos. Don’t come here expecting a waiter, salsa and chips, or mariachi music. Come here if you want cheap, fast, authentic Mexican food. So many Mexican restaurants in the Kansas City area are completely Americanized, this is not one of them. My only complaint is the building, it does not look very well kept, but the cooking and prep areas are clean.

Authentic and delicious Mexican food. If you love tamales, these are the best I’ve had in Kansas City! The Asada and Carnitas tacos were delicious too.

Been here a handful of times, mostly good experiences and one less than good. The 4 for $ 5 tacos have been on point every time I’ve gotten them, but the last chicken burrito I got had multiple bones in it. I was also the only customer in the restaurant at the time, so it’s not like the cook was working so fast to fill orders that he just missed it. Not only is this careless and kind of gross, but can also be very dangerous if I would have swallowed one. The tacos are always good but my advice is to be careful if you get a burrito with chicken or other meat that might potentially have bones in it.

This Mexican market is one of the great Mexican markets in KC. It’s not as well known as San Antonio or some of the others yet but I bet that will change. The meats and vegetables quality are like the other markets but the variety is not as big. What makes Don Antonio different are it’s tortillas. Wow, they are good. These are the silkiest tortillas I’ve eaten in KC. I’m excited to warm one up and butter it. We ate a huevos con chorizo burrito… the tortilla made the breakfast. Next time I’m close to KCKCC I’m grabbing more tortillas(and probably some tacos al pastor)
