I am so sad to report that Hobo’s is now closed. We went by last evening for a beer and wings and there is a leasing sign out front.

A small place, yet the service is very friendly. The only thing is that what I originally ordered, they didn’t have. The pulled pork sandwich was good though. Being down in the same area as Knuckleheads, it adds a restaurant to an area that needs to be built up. The food is good. I would come here again, and bring friends along as well.

Seen this place a number of times and it always seems to have a nice crowd — they must be doing something right. Clean, well lit bar with some tables. Looks like a great place to grab a few brews especially if you lived in the neighborhood. As a connoisseur of the pork T, I had to see how theirs stacked up to others I’ve had. I ordered to go and the turn around time was super quick. The staff was very nice, although they did not offer me a drink order while waiting for my food. The pork T is a tempura battered, which I knew from other reviews, but must say was something I’d never had — I’ve seen other places in KC with this style pork T, perhaps it’s regional(?). The tempura was light and a good crust with a typical flavor of that breading. The pork was large and generous with a good pork flavor that shined through the preparation. This isn’t one of those sandwiches that has a T the size of a dinner plate, but just tastes like breading — you got some delicious porky flavor here! Two oddities were that A) the sandwich is not served with pickles and B) the to-go swag did not include mustard — both things I consider essential to a good tenderloin sandwich. I can say however, that this is so good it transcended those requirements. Go here, get this!

WOW! I have not eaten here since it was the Rivers Edge. And I’m telling you more than just the ownership and name have changed here! It is very clean now, which is really saying something if anyone had eaten there previously. The staff is so friendly and attentive! They are a joy to talk to and even if the food was only so so they would be enough reason to go back. But the food isn’t only so so. Its excellent! I had chicken nachos for an appetizer and a burger with onion rings for my meal and it was all VERY good! Then I took a piece of bread pudding to go for dessert and, not surprisingly, was extremely pleased with it as well. All in all what I’m saying is I will DEFINITELY be back!

A fun and friendly place for an afternoon or evening lunch or dinner. The staff is much fun and there are several beer specials worth noting. It is a find addition to this very unique Knuckleheads neighborhood. I have not seen any live music there but the list of performers who have played there is most impressive.

This is a delightful out of the way spot with excellent food and service. It’s clean and fresh inside with plenty of comfortable seating, and they have a back patio and live music on the weekend. Given that the owners hail from the Peanut it should come as no surprise that the food is bar food done to perfection, The tenderloin is of particular appeal in that it is battered rather than breaded, but it’s really everything on the menu(I’ve been here several times and haven’t hit a dud yet). If you’re in the mood for a good old fashioned bar and grill you can do no better.

And the award for world’s biggest tenderloin sandwich goes to… /expectant drumroll that goes on longer than it should HOBO’S GRILLANDBAR. If there were, indeed, an award for exceptionally large cuts of pork deep fried and served on a bun, Hobo’s would win year after year. If you’re anything like me, you can’t look at a menu with a pork tenderloin sandwich on it and resist it’s artery clogging, cholesterol spiking, piping hot and crispy goodness. It never fails that the moment I see one on a menu, my decision is made. Hobo’s of course was no exception as I put in my order with a side of fries and waited. Let me tell you one thing about this sandwich. Wow. That’s it. That’s all I’ve got. It’s enormous. Very nearly the size of my face. And comical to watch someone attempt to eat — or so I’m told by Unilocaler Mom. But enough about the aesthetics, let’s talk about whats really important. The tenderloin was sliced thick, tender and juicy, and fried to a perfect golden brown. The seasoning was light for my taste, but all I needed to add was a bit of pepper. Loaded with tomato, lettuce and a fat slice of purple onion and dressed with mayo, it was so close to perfect, I don’t think I’ll ever look at another tenderloin the same. Anyway, the fries were good too, lightly salted and crispy. Be sure and order a side of barbeque sauce to dip them in because they use a honey/coffee based sauce that is out of this world. If I’d known they had sweet potato fries, I would have ordered them. Luckily, Unilocaler Mom ordered some so I got to try them, and yum. I’ll definitely order them next time!

Just had the New Year’s Eve Salmon. OMG!!! Have been down a number of times and have NEVER been disappointed. The deep fried tacos — awesome. The Pork Tenderloin is literally two, maybe three meals and is done in a tempura batter. Full flavored and is hand hammered and pounded. Tonight’s salmon, ohhhhh, yeah. Baked in parchment with lime and fresh zucchini, peppers, green beans. Holy mother of GOD!!! Bob, Dave and Frank — love your little joint in the Bottoms. Amy, their primary Bartender and server(from The Peanut), intuitive and attentive. She’s hotter n donut grease too. Top shelf all the way around.

I really wish you could upload video on Unilocal, because the one I shot of Unilocaler Daughter biting into the tenderloin she described as «big as my head!» is quite entertaining. It was also delicious, since the meat comes from McGonigles. I don’t know the source of the brisket for my sandwich since it was the special(an unbelievable $ 6.95), but I wouldn’t be surprised if it came from there too. It was actually more like a burnt end sandwich-big tender chunks instead of slices, which was just fine by me. In our attempt to eventually eat our way through the entire menu, we also sampled their Reuben(again, thick tender chunks instead of slices, and again, delicious), jalapeño mac ‘n’ cheese bites(yum!) and sweet potato fries which were superb dipped in the honey-sweet Blues Hog BBQ sauce. I’ve been here twice now(Duchess!) and loved everything I’ve tried. At this rate I should be through that menu by March!

Stumbled across reviews for Hobos and was on front st, So I decided to try it. A great little hidden jewel, extremely friendly staff great service, food prepared to order and served promptly fresh and hot. A full bar with an emphasis on local stuff.(Meat from McGonigals, boulevard beers, etc.) I had a tenderloin, battered, & not breaded. One of the best I have had in a while. Great daily specials, and live music venue on weekend evenings. Be sure to check this one out. r

We can’t review the food, but the beer and liquor selection was excellent. But what made this a five star experience for us was the staff and patrons. When we got there we had a great conversation with the staff, because we were the only ones there. They made us feel like a part of the family. When other patrons came in we were introduced and had some great conversations. My wife and I travel the country, and visit a LOT of bars. As my wife said, she never felt this comfortable in a bar this fast. We had a great time, and we’ll be back for some food and blues music.

Hobo’s is a great addition to the neighborhood surrounding Knuckleheads! The place itself is better looking on the inside than the outside. There are booths, tables and bar seating. There are plenty of TV’s if you want to watch a game. The menu is extensive with plenty of burgers and sandwiches. I ordered the BLT and a small side of cheese fries. Both were heavenly. The cheese fries, similar to another local favorite restaurant are smothered with queso. In my BLT snob opinion, the BLT was perfect. The bread wasn’t too toasted, the bacon was just right, the lettuce and tomato were fresh. I couldn’t ask for a better BLT. I have another show to go to soon at Knuckleheads. I’ve already planned to stop here before the show for dinner. I need to remember to keep Hobo’s in mind for when I’m not going to Knuckleheads. I hope more people take the time to search Hobo’s out. It’s definitely a winner on its own.

Great great great place! Had the homemade tenderloin absolutely one of the best. Pot roast was the special today, witnessed many diners raving about how delicious… Had to take home half of my sandwich it was so large but could not resist having dessert to go… beautiful homemade desserts… We had a cocktail before we ordered our lunch they definitely know how to pour a nice hearty cocktail… Family owned establishment everyone is extremely helpful and friendly. Of course very clean restaurant which means a lot to my dining experience. a ways from our home in Lee Summit but will definitely take a little trip back again can’t wait to try breakfast!

Excellent bar and grill. Amazing prices. I came here after hearing a local food critic heap praise on it via public radio. I was intrigued by learning that the new owner is the great, great grandson of a legendary KC bar owner. Apparently, great restauranteur-ing runs in the family. The beer-battered pork tenderloin was among the best I’ve had — greasy, fried, home-made decadence. The wings — brace yourselves Kansas Citians — are better than The Peanut’s. ‘HOWCANTHISBE?’ Cry the townspeople. Simple, the owner used to work at The Peanut. They take a while to prepare because they’re done correctly — cooked till crispy in about twenty minutes. Although it was a little awkward strolling into a bar that makes no amends for it’s tough outward façade, the staff was incredibly prompt, attentive and friendly and the patrons were a wonderful mix of people — it probably didn’t hurt that Don McClean and Judy Collins were performing later that night at nearby Knuckleheads. Also the bar was neat and clean. I suppose I should qualify this with some negative criticism. The Boulevard Wheat beer was a little stale although I think this is a self-correcting problem once business picks up. Also, a frosty glass goes a long way in my all-around bar experience.

Went with two friends. From the outside I was totally expecting a dingy dive bar.(Not that there is anything wrong with that). The place was very clean and packed at 12:30. Owner was bar-tending and keeping an eye on the place. The special was pot roast for $ 5.95 heck of deal and very good. The Ruben was excellent –corned beef was sliced thick and tender served with chips. Now to the wings if you are a wing fan. You need to check this place out. My brother is what I call a «food douche». Definition: Food Douche A person that thinks they know the best place to get any one specific item of food and that the places you know all suck. Jason: I love this turkey sandwich Joey: This sandwich sucks, I know a place with the best turkey sandwich i have ever had Jason: You are such a Food Douche He thinks The Peanut has the best wings. He compared to there and really liked them, so they must be pretty damn good. Surprisingly the onion rings were frozen and like the ones served at Burger King. I actually like those kind so I didn’t care but based on the home made food of everything else thought they would be too. Just a heads up. Now for the pie, best I have ever had. Homemade buttermilk pie. Would go back just for that. I liked this place a lot and will be going back. Check out their facebook page for daily specials. Coke products.

Just stopped in for a beer, they have PBR no tap and most of the Boulevard beers. Will be back to eat and will be reviewing the food soon.
