Snoozeville. BORING. Yawwwwwwwwwwn. Yes, some people use those words to describe Interstate 70 through Kansas. I prefer to think of it as the easiest drive around. Very few curves, fairly flat, and no need to stop. I tell people just to point their car west, hit the gas, and relax. The most traffic you’ll encounter is through Topeka, and the only portion of the trip where you need pay the most attention. There is a turnpike section from KCK to Topeka, but it isn’t much, and it’s worth it. The highway is great; easy to drive; smooth. You take it for granted, until you have to drive I-70 through Missouri. The highway has a large expanse of right of way between the two directions, which makes for an easier drive. Some highlights: Bypassing Lawrence. ;)(Just kidding!) Exit 333 @Paxico has some good Kansas wine. Camels, yes CAMELS, near Deep Creek Road(?) around the beautiful Flint Hills, which are really the last hills you’ll encounter, except for the few west of Salina. Get gas in Abilene if you need it; I think Salina is a PITA to get off at and get gas or food. If you love homemade fried chicken, then eat in Abilene at the Brookville Hotel just off the highway. Check out the cattle grazing underneath the Windmill Farm west of Salina. If you want to see some cool dinosaur stuff, stop off in Hays. I do hate getting off and on the interstate in Hays. It can be a bit dicey here and in Salina with the truck traffic. Okay, so it’s downhill(or uphill, actually) from there, on through Denver. I like the drive; relaxing, cattle sightings and if you’re driving at night, no headlights coming right at you at 90MPH. Speaking of no need to stop, if you THINK you might need to find a restroom, Carpe’ Toilet’! The next town might be closed up for the day or night, and the rest stops might be few and far between. OH, and the interstates in Kansas are now 75MPH. :)(Like anyone was going 70 anyway!).
