Sub-par. Overpriced. Overrated. The first call in they told us they didn’t accept reservations. Our second call – for call ahead seating – they said they did reservations for parties of 10 or more(we were a party of 9). While we were waiting they seated reservations of less than 10 on multiple occasions. They were out of my first drink choice and we had to ask for a kid’s cup three times and never received it(despite having a two year old at the table). Everything about the atmosphere was dull. I felt like I was eating in a mobile home with the cheap carpet and lack of attention to décor. For the price, the food was very disappointing. I’m sure the owners are raking it in due to their low overhead on service and aesthetics, but I will not return. I’ve heard little about Jess & Jim’s living in Kansas City all my life and now I understand why.

Great food and service. Wish the restaurant was closer to us. We try to stop by every time we are down that way.

Very friendly service, reasonable prices for high quality meats. The garlic bread is just lovely: thick slices of bread(in the shape of sliced bread, not sticks of bread) toasted to perfection with buttery garlicky essence that will leave your taste buds wanting more. Prime rib and accompanying au jus were spot on. The porterhouse was tender and juicy in all the right spots. Twice baked potato is a must. Very friendly service. Waitstaff laughed at all my dad’s jokes, which made for a great and delicious father’s day meal :)

Food was really solid. Got the special, beef stroganoff. Flavor was great, very large portions. Only problem was I got ignored by the waitress. Being a single I guess I had no value. She was sure attentive to a group of 4 that seemed to be regulars.

When I drive by J&J’s I will have to look away in embarrassment because I was so gullible to pay so much for so little quality. The restaurant was clean with OK décor. The wait staff as also OK. The Serviceable steak was good, but not @ $ 30. The garlic bread was kinda weird. The RASPBERRY Vinaigrette aka raspberry jelly was weird as well… Spending $ 40+ a person with NO alcoholic beverages was not IMHO in line with the product they delivered.

Top notch selection of Sterling Silver beef cuts. A must for a VERY special occasion. The filet mignon or Playboy strip with the twice baked potato for dinner. Many lunch choices. Uniquely Martin City!

I love family owned classic restaurants and have long wanted to try this KC tradition. It was disappointing. The wine list was fairly priced but almost entirely grocery store level wines, almost all California. The steak soup had great broth flavor but virtually no meat for $ 6. The bread was stale. The best part of the meal was the green beans. My $ 36 t-bone was dry and tough with a high fat content. The rub added to it was the only source of flavor. The service was friendly and attentive. I wouldn’t call it a bad meal for half the money, but it was a very poor investment for nearly $ 100. There are many better choices in Kansas City.

It’s Father’s Day. We poorly planned and last minute all agreed to meet up with 2 hour quoted waits other places. They got 9 of us and a baby in with no wait. Excellent! We were served a couple dishes of beets while we waited for everyone to arrive. Beets aren’t my thing, but others seemed please. I said I’d never been here before, but Dad insisted I had. I ordered a medium rare Ribeye and twice baked potato. Salad and garlic bread came with. Heavy, thick, yummy bread. Several of us ordered twice baked potatoes. We were all served loaded bakers. There’s nothing twice baked about these potatoes. Completely disappointing for everyone. My steak didn’t look like Ribeye and was a little too charred, so it made me nervous about the inside. Medium to well done is what I was served. I asked for medium rare… you’re a steakhouse… this shouldn’t be an issue. The rub or spice used was a nice flavor, but hard to get past a way too done steak. The pork chops looked good, and was told the chicken fried steak was good. Clean place, friendly service. $ 158.00 for an only OK dinner. I wouldn’t recommend this as a place to get a steak and would only return if someone else had there heart set on it, although I don’t see that being anyone from our group this evening.

This is the worst place I have eaten in a while. My husband and I both got different dishes(Steaks) and both were disappointing. My steak was dry and under seasoned. Mashed potatoes were dry, and flavorless. My soda was flat. Bread was dry and tasked like cardboard. Our Bill was close to $ 100.00 and I wish we would get our money back. Yuck, Yuck, Yuck. If a manager reads this and would like to refund us our check we would gladly except. We will not be going back!
