Kansas City Has Spring Fever! @ Tannin Wine Bar and Kitchen

Can I give this 6 stars? Imagine another star up there. I know you can do it.
Chewmories. Still got ‘em, with a bit o’ extra salivation, Homer-​style, just THINKING about the food. Holy Moly.
That Tannin is one class act; supremely gracious and helpful waitstaff, incredible bartender, super nice space that’s the perfect combo of high-​style and low-maintenance…just like me!
So, yeah, 6 Stars. Great job, Joi… even though those Unilocal Sunglasses would look better on my face if they were black. ;-)

I tend to avoid reviewing events of any sort (elite or not) because it often feels a little bit like a circle jerk…

But I digress, this was one fantastic event. I stuck to the Boulevard products to avoid enticing my alter ego to make an appearance, Sangria tends to encourage her. The food was fine dining quality, wonton chips with Ahi Tuna? Soft poached egg with whipped delite? Lobster corn dogs? Slightly bummed to know I can’t wander in off the street and demand any of those things, however it was great to have ample dining options. One thing that will remain during normal operating hours is the extremely pleasant staff. It had that bend-​over-​backwards pleasant quality you tend to find in a Christian fueled «First Watch» type-​o-​joint with class.
Perfect opportunity to seek new elite formerly only known as avatars and yuck it up with the old faces (great to see you Susan and David!) Well done Joi!

Thank you Joi, and thank you Tannin, for another fabulous Unilocal event. The food was amazing and I love the «F.U.C. ‘em» sunglasses. Now if some kind soul will only tell me what F.U.C. stands for, because I’m sure there’s a clever inside joke into which I need to be clued. Regardless, loved it all!

Great food? A kitchen obviously having fun with the event.
Drinks? Oh my. Decent wine is a fine thing. Sangria? Those, too. When the dude came around pouring Chenin Blanc and Sicilian Rosso I was floored.
Venue? Perfect. Plenty of space and outdoor seating on a near-​perfect day.
Service? The staff at Tannin was absolutely spot-​on in every regard. Friendly. Welcoming. Gracious. And plenty of them were floating the space… everyone was working. Very impressive.
Joi… you did it again! Can we make Tannin the official Unilocal Elite event site? lol

This was my first Unilocal!Elite event and what a great way to start off. Everyone has already touched on the delicious food, the amazing beverages, and the great location… I wholeheartedly agree, so will not rhapsodize about it more (although I could since everything was top notch). This was an amazing afternoon with an amazing group of people.
Thank you to Joi, Tannin/​the amazing staff, and all the friendly Unilocalers… can’t wait to see everyone again soon.

This event was the perfect way to spend a late Sunday afternoon. First of all, Tannin is a lovely place to have some wine — the atmosphere and the friendly staff can’t be beat. Seriously, the staff are really nice, and quick to pour you a drink, a glass of water, or get you whatever else you might need. Tannin could be in a barn, and I’d go back for the service alone.
Ok, so the staff are great and the space is beautiful. Nice. But let’s talk about the food. OMG, the food. I went in expecting some nice cheese, fruit, and the like to go with the wine, and that was definitely on offer (the brie was great, as were the caper berries, and my husband couldn’t get enough of the prosciutto), but then the passed appetizers started coming out. Hello, lobster corn dogs! Those were fantastic. As were the ahi tuna wonton chips with guacamole, the mini caprese salads, the goat cheese and endive, the sushi… and more. I didn’t try everything, but I loved what I did try. And then there were desserts, too! Somehow, I managed to find room for the mini chocolate lava cake and the chocolate stuffed peanut butter cookie.
When it came to beverages, I stuck with the Chenin Blanc, and it was very tasty. My husband started with a beer, but moved to the sangria, so I got to try that, too, and it was wonderful.
Food and wine aside, as usual, the event itself was a lot of fun. We met some cool new people, (including some that were already my Unilocal friends that I now got to meet in person) and made some new friends. I also scored a pair of the fantastic Unilocal sunglasses.
All in all, it was a perfect event and Joi did an amazing job as usual.

Wow! When it comes to hosting the Unilocal Elite Tannin is the cat’s meow. They had me at hello when I was greated with a glass of sparkling red Sangria. Next they delighted me with chef’s take on steak and eggs, caper berries, and gazpacho shooters. The space is gorgeous, plenty of room to move around and mingle with my foodie friends. Thank you Tannin.

Wow, Tannin’s went above and beyond any call of duty for this event.
For me, I started with iced tea, and it was fresh and yummy, and I found my friends, then sat down. Then, the food began to come around, by way of the sweet waitresses, and waiters. Monica took my picture, holding the Unilocal sign, and at that time, I had a sangria. Full of goodness, partially sangria, partially club soda. We were served crab corndogs (my reason for no longer dieting, right there.)
Let me try to describe the some of the food: lobster corndogs, peanut chicken, tiny pancakes with a miniature egg, puff pastry with mushroom filling, and different sushi, which I’m not sure what it’s called. Did I tell about the dessert? Désert bonne!
Miniature molton lava cakes, peanutbutter cookies filled with chocolate, and a spoonful of chocolate mouse.
The restaurant, was nice, quiet, with outside seating, and a warm atmosphere.
