Latin Bistro Express

I’m lowering my review now that I have tried the tamales here several times and all the flavors. They consistently put WAY too much Masa in their tamales and not enough filling. I decided to move on with my quest for convenient fresh tamales…

The food is AMAZING. Some of the most authentic and delicious Latin food I’ve had. Tacos with cochinita, onions, cilantro and salsa is my favorite thing on the menu.
Be advised that this location is an «express» location so it’s only open for lunch, 1030−2pm or so. If you want a full dining experience you will have to go up North to the Gladstone location.

Chef Tito is a character. I went in on Saturday to get a to-​go order for the family. Left with a dozen frozen veggie tamales, side of mole, quesadilla, another creamy pepper sauce, and guac. Looks like there are many meaty options but for you veg heads — definitely definitely eat here. Many veggie options. And the veggie options are not just peppers and onions — actual green vegetables, in thoughtful combination, and with delicious sauces. He also makes fruit purée dressings — there was mango dressing on the salad I brought home.
LBE is ironically located across the street from Chipotle. I wonder if the Chipotle workers cross the street to eat here? I would.

Amazing is what I’d have to call this establishment. They really do treat you like family. I sat down outside with my dogs and they brought out a bowl of water for them! The chef gave me some sample meats so I could pick what I wanted. The carnitas is cut thick and is just the right amount of juicy and crispy. The veggies were fresh and beautiful. I’m not a vegetarian, but I do eat at vegetarian/​vegan restaurants because of the quality of vegetable that gets used. Same quality in the veggies here. And the tortas bread, I’m fairly confident this made in house. It was all in all a fantastic meal. This food was prepared with love. Delicious, and a bargain. They even brought out some scraps for the dogs!

Wonderful Place! And if you go during lunch, normally the Chef himself is there! They have their primary restaurant in Gladstone which is the true gourmet dining experience. Latin Bistro Express is a lunch time quick stop but their food is just as good. Although they have burritos, tacos, tortas, and even taco salads… YOU HAVE TO TRY the COCHINITA PIBIL in both tacos and torta. The enchiladas de mole are also very very good!
The food is good, the environment is wonderful, but the best part is the way they treat you! It seems as though you are family! Notice the people that walk in, and you’ll realize that everyone has become a friend of the chef, If you are in the KU area, you have to skip the common chipotle right across the street and give Latin Bistro a try! I’m sure you will become a fan!
