Los Tules is in a great location for a quick bite before hitting Kauffman for a performance… unfortunately, everyone has this same idea. The few times I have been here before going to Kauffman the place is always packed… so make a reservation! The food is standard American mexican fare… there is a a lot of food for the price, so I would recommend ordering a la carte. The avocado tostado and the spinach enchilada are my two favorite items; tons of guacamole on the tostado and the entire spinach enchilada is sauteed spinach with a little cheese on the interior and then covered with their queso dip on the outside. My dining companions ordered the fish tacos which got good feedback, as did the suizia enchiladas(there was a lot of delicious looking cheese on that plate) The service has been lacking the times that I have been there, but again, it has always been super crowded… the staff is always friendly, just frazzled by the demand of the very full restaurant. Give it a try – you can’t beat the location, just remember, everyone else likes the location too, so call ahead for a table.

Right across the street from the Kaufman Performing Arts center. Efficient and delicious food with friendly service. The chicken spinach enchiladas and beef tacos are particularly tasty!

Salsa isn’t the best. Ordered Espinaca which was in a good size bowl. Our table ordered Enchiladas Suiza and Chicken Fajitas. Enchiladas were chick/cheese baked with cheese — big portion, very good. Fajitas had good seasoning, big pieces of white meat chicken. Really good margarita on the rocks. I would come back here!

Came here following a concert from the Kauffman one late evening, and was immediately showered in customer service. We sat at the bar, and very quickly given chips and salsa(they give you a mild and spicy). The mild salsa tasted a bit like watered down tomato juice, but the hot did have some kick. I wasn’t a big fan of the house salsas, not enough pulp and ingredients. We were given a small side of espinaca for free. I ordered one carne asada taco and was blown away. Well seasoned beef, fresh ingredients, and a soft shell. We felt very welcomed throughout the entire meal.

There are many Mexican places in the Crossroads neighborhood, but Los Tules has been our favorite for awhile. Most of their dishes are excellent because(in my opinion) they use really high-quality ingredients. The chicken in particular is always really good, so I tend to order chicken dishes. You can’t miss with the Ruby Rita — two or three of those and you’ll be in good shape!

Was going to Los Corrales because it is very close to where i live. I did a review on it too. Not going to get into my review about Los Corrales. Read it if interested. Now to the main attraction. Cost — about normal for a Mexican place. Food– really tasty-tastes freshly delicious. Service– really good– they don’t ignore you– they talk and look at you. Had their luncheon the other day and enjoyed it. Love their hours– open most of the year long– probably closed on the major holidays because honestly not enough business downtown to justify staying open. But many of the Mexican places around here are closed on mondays and they are open, yay!

Food and drinks were outstanding! Only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star was that the service was really slow. It is a small place and we went on a Saturday night fairly late which may have had an impact. We had a spicy shrimp dish, tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, and more-everything great. Margaritas were very good as well. Their chicken was what I really enjoyed because it was great quality, no fatty parts, and all white meat… shredded perfectly too.

This is handsdown my fav mexican spot in kc. Their street tacos are my favorite. I love the way their hot salsa you get when you are seated burns my mouth, but I can’t stop eating it. Their pork queso dip is delicious and you get a huge helping. But please, get a carne ascada street taco… Delicious!!!

One order of guacamole, one chile relleno, one kids’ enchilada meal, one burrito, 2 teas were $ 40. It’s super casual inside, but the service is good and food is brought out quickly and hot. It’s in a nice location next to the Kauffman, but parking can be hard to find. The salsa is soupy — no chunks at all, which can be bad or awesome depending on how you like your salsa. I’m always happy to eat here, but it wouldn’t make it into my top 5 Mexican restaurant suggestions for the KC area.

Now my favorite Mexican restaurant. I was shocked to see that i only gave them 4 stars 3 years ago.

This is the 2nd worst Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in nearly 20 years in KC. Don Chilitos is#1. This is like the Mexican Dennys… Probably pretty good if you’re completely hammered. A.C. wasn’t working well. No fans for air circulation. My wife saw a waitress using her bare hands to fill chip basket after chip basket. They told us their queso dip was popular. It was runny and disgusting. And my wife and I both hated our entrees. Will NEVER go back to this place. No idea how it stays open with so many other great Mexican restaurants nearby. The service was good. But that’s it. Everything else SUCKED.

Good stuff! I live in TX, and get good mexican food often. The salsa was pretty hot(as it should be), and the chicken Chimi Chava was good. More food than I needed. The waitress was also fast and stayed out of the way. I’ll be back.

Basic but good Mexican food within a stone’s throw of Kaufmann Center. Restaurant is a bit low on ambiance, but with no-frills service. Went here with a large group and we felt both a bit rushed but then had to try pretty hard to get the bill at the end of our meal. As others have mentioned, the salsa is a bit watery. I did like the spicier version okay and the chips were nice and crunchy. Ordered enchilada suizas: it was ooey gooey and tasty with lots of cheese, just enough spice, and served with a nice side of rice and beans and some squash(I think). Beer selection is pretty limited to Mexican imports and a couple of domestics. Also serve margaritas and sangria.

I could hardly give this place one star the location is great… But the salsa you receive upon arrival taste like spicy tomato paste… And the cheese dip is super runny and has huge chunks of pork, which just looks unappetizing… Plus the service was nothing to brag about… I won’t be returning. Sorry not sorry Los Tules.

I’ve been here many, many times. Even when they’re not BUSY, they’re busy. So let me get the salsa thing outta the way. It’s not think. In fact, kinda watery. Tonight it was WAY over salted, but I can look past that. It’s typically right on key in the flavor department. I usually add it to my rice. I just realized this is the only Mexican restaurant where I use salsa on my rice. Interesting. Moving on. It’s a smaller place, but they pack ‘em in. There’s patio seating as well. Pretty nice backdrop to take in the beautiful Kauffman PFAC. A few spots to park out front, better luck in back. They’re ALWAYS friendly and attentive. I’ve never had a bad meal. Definitely my favorite guacamole. The pork plate is fantastic… chunks of juicy pork. Burritos are good. They have wonderful fish tacos, my favorite anywhere. Great mixed drinks. They’re not my favorite Mexican place, but maybe 2nd. Definitely worth a try.

Came here with a few friends on a Saturday night. The place was busy but not crowded. Service was friendly. The hot sauce indeed was hot but one-dimensional– chips were fresh and good though. The mild salsa had a little more of a cilantro flavor to it. I ordered the fish tacos and they were great! Nice and crispy lightly fried fish with a flavorful red cabbage pico slaw. No major complaints here.

Good tequila selection. Bartenders fluctuate. Great ones have passed thru. Always have a bad experience with a certain rude waitress but guess she has her days. Cazuela is best drink by far but only a couple of people there can make it smh

The food here is okay, but nothing to write home about. The mild salsa was a bit watery and didn’t have a lot of flavor. The hot salsa was more spicy, but lacked flavor even more. I ordered a vegetarian burrito that was covered in cheese dip. The burrito was okay, although I didn’t taste very much guacamole. I think the cheese covered up the flavor a bit. I also got a potato enchilada. I think this may have been my first time having one of those. The enchilada was pretty good and they let me substitute the enchilada(pork) sauce with cheese sauce. I wish that the enchilada sauce wasn’t made out of pork so that I could have tried it on my enchilada I. They have outdoor seating, which is a nice asset, and the staff is pretty friendly. It seems like they are pretty willing to substitute things for you and explain the menu if you have any questions. The food is okay, but nothing really blew my mind. The prices are pretty reasonable as well.

While I like coming to this place and generally enjoy the food, it’s hard to give it really high marks because it’s not going to blow anyones socks off. The chips and salsa, my benchmark, are ehhh. The salsa doesn’t have a ton of veggies and is a bit watery. The espinaca is a good alternative. As for the entrees, pretty good stuff, including their pork tamales that are covered in salsa and cheese. I also enjoy the tacos, but you’re going to find better tacos at a lot of joints around town. I’ve also had their chimichanga and while delicious, you need to make sure you’re wearing an elastic waist after eating it. I love the location, near the Crossroads and with Kauffman out front — you can grab an outdoor spot on a sunny day with a margarita and it’s as fun as any spot around. So yeah TL: DR; pretty good Mexican food and a good location, but certainly not the best meal you’re going to find around.

Tried this again with a group after another concert at the Kauffman Center. I sure wish there were someplace else nearby to go without having to search all over creation(again) to park your car! There used to be considerably more on-street(free) parking around Kauffman, but the time frames and time limits have all been changed so they don’t work for events, and several areas have been changed to «no parking» zones. Los Tules is crowded, noisy, and somewhat frustrating. My strongest recommendation is that you be ready to order QUICKLY after you arrive, especially after events at the Kauffman, because of the dearth of nearby places to eat, and you can easily get lost in the shuffle. The quesadilla with pork was a much better choice than the enchiladas from my previous visit. As you can see from the photo, there are large chunks of pork in it, and it was very good. I’m usually a Margarita gal, but was encouraged by group members to try the Sangria, which was delicious… even better than my Margarita from the time before. It’s kind of crazy trying to get your order in and get served here, and it is difficult to converse when it is crowded, and it would definitely NOT be my fave for Mexican food in the KC area. And I don’t think I have ever been in a more disgusting restroom in any restaurant.
