Millennium Academy

Read the other 1 star review– it is accurate! Unethical business with poor ethics and billing practices. Stay away and if you do join read every sentence before signing, get copies of documents and clarify any questions (in writing) ! He has told all his staff not to give copies of documents (locked in file cabinet) that they are «» office «only. Deceptive and misleading pricing and never signed contract for summer camp until June of 2016 (as all transaction occurred over phone.) Also does not offer all that he states (NO –cheerleading, dance, gymnastics all done by his coaches or TV and 1 hour karate that was quickly decreased to 30 min) along with the fact that the «fun» ASP requires all kids to sig «quietly «In their chairs doing nothing from 5:30−6 — sounds like fun to me and I am sure this was the case for my 6 yo too! He had to «let go», according to his 1x newsletter, at least half of the 20 kids/​families in his program for not following his policies– really — half!!! See the review below– half is a huge number. I was not the only member to complain about practice policies and misleading advertising.

My daughter is newer to the Millennium Academy, so I will need to update this review as my experience with this establishment continues.
The staff seems reasonable, professional and general quite nice.
The facility is clean, adequately sized, supplied with the appropriate gear, and has ample parking. There is seating provided for those waiting for students while they are training. The only area for improvement could be a couple of more tables: seating is sometime limited in peak times.
In terms of the training: I have not trained in over twenty years myself, but at one time felt quite knowledgable. Thus my observations may, or may not be accurate on this subject. With that said, the fundamentals of technique that is coached seems to be solid, inline with standards and adequate for the students goals of training that I have seen. I would expect early and middle belts to be comparable to their counterpart belts if competing in forms or sparring from all similar schools. I have not witnessed advanced belts train, so I cannot offer review.
In terms of cost: All martial arts academies I have ever seen are for profit. So there is certainly a business aspect to this academy. However that is to be expected. After all, I do not provide my work for free either. With that said, the one month trial was fair. I think the cost and commitment requested are fair and in-​line with what I have seen elsewhere. If you are considering training for yourself or family, you must be prepared to make a financial commitment to do so. The terms are very clearly reviewed, and I am comfortable with them. I think the value is right in line.
I have read about «inflexibility» on the part of this academy and others while looking into training for my daughter. I believe that it is important to understand than when it comes to technique, there truly is a right way and wrong way. Adult and children should be prepared to show respect, and surrender to the direction of their master. This will serve them well in their martial arts study and in life.
Overall I am very pleased with Millennium Academy, Master Butler and the instructing seniors.

If I could give zero i would. Michael Butler is the most arrogant self serving jerk I have ever met. He kicked my son out for having Tourette syndrome. If everyone didn’t conform to his idea of what a person should be, then you simply were not good enough. He literally sent an email out asking people to refer new students but not to send people who weren’t the best of the best. He was mean to the kids and talked to everyone like they were stupid. If you didn’t do things his way, then it was the wrong way. I kept justifying it to myself saying the structure was good but there is a difference between structure and just completely crazy. He also contributed to charge me when we were no longer attending. I disputed it with my bank and he continued to dispute my dispute simply to be a jerk. Don’t ever upset him because he will make sure and continually tell you that he just bought two twenty thousand dollar vans and he won’t let you’re nonconformity ruin his money making. He is definitely in it for the money and not for the love of it. Do yourself a favor and run.
