It was soooooooo bad. The donuts tasted like plain bread with icing on them. I got a glazed donut and it legitimately tastes like plain white bread and I also got a red velvet donut and it was so bad i couldn’t finish it… 10⁄10 do not recommend

Was not impressed. I usually go to Donut King which has an awesome selection no matter what time you go. Also, I use a coupon at Donut King… look for it in the monthly value pack coupons that you usually throw away! A dozen donuts for just over $ 6. At Rays(10:30 Sat), it just wasn’t worth the trip. Couldnt use the coupon I had for Rays which brought me in in the first place because they already had sold out of the item. Selection awful, over priced, good but not great donuts. Maybe I’ll give them one more shot earlier in the morning based on others reviews but this was a joke. If your doing well and have good donuts, demand is there than you shouldn’t have a crap selection last 3 hrs of the day. As others have posted, customer service was meh.

Best donut place in KC. The people there are super friendly and helpful as well! The earlier you go, the better selection you have to chose from. They have never disappointed though!

After trying this place today, I skimmed through the reviews and I was struck by how different some of these reviews are. Maybe the selection is better on the weekends and there are different employees during those times, but I’ve seen a better selection of donuts at gas stations at 3am than what I saw today. And even then, I didn’t really care. What truly irked me was the employee I met. Protip: customers can actually see the faces you make in reaction to their questions, and if you can’t manage to curb your looks of utter disgust then maybe customer service isn’t your thing. Even if these were the ‘Best Donuts I’d Ever Eaten’, they still wouldn’t be worth having to interact with someone who can’t at least PRETEND to be pleasant and looks like she just drank a pint of vinegar. And these donuts were just ‘okay’, they weren’t anything to write home about. It left me asking myself why I didn’t just get off 35 at Armour for Donut King instead. And I wouldn’t have even bothered to log on to write a review if it wasn’t for being treated like I was an inconvenience or something that needed to be scraped off of one’s shoe.

We love Ray’s Donuts and are here nearly every Sunday. Friendly service, delicious donuts, they sponsor our elementary school and when I ask for two donut holes I almost always end up with five — who could ask for more than that?!

Good donuts. They had big selection. The place was clean and service was good. I thought it was little more expensive then other places.

Good selection of donuts. Good taste. We ordered 12 donut holes, a long john and a cake donut. Paid a little over $ 5. Taste is much better then a grocery store donut or dunkin donuts. But not something that makes me crave to go back. Nice and clean inside which is always an attractive point at a food service location.

Every town needs a donut shop. That’s it. Nothing fancy. Just donuts. Picked up a dozen mixed donuts for work today. Wow. Great variety and fresh flavors. Mango. German chocolate. Red velvet. Even Oreo. Props for creativity and for sticking to the tried and true plain and old fashion donuts. Yummy.

Fresh, tons of choices but they sell out fast on the weekends so get there early. Lady behind the counter even shared donut holes with my toddler!

Ray’s has some of the best donuts in KC, if you prefer yeast-raised to cake(I do, and this place is my favorite). They’ve always been fresh and delicious whenever I’ve gotten them. All of the bases are covered with the classic flavors you’d expect, and then some. The cinnamon braids and some others are huge, and practically need their own boxes.

Love this donut shop! Stopped in on a saturday morning, they were busy, which to me says, good donuts! I was not disappointed, donuts were great, fresh, good selection. The staff was very friendly. Even grabbed a great cup of coffee! I will be visiting again!

I liked Rays when it was the OLD Rays. Before they upgraded the interior, made it more modern, put the color red on everything and changed the donuts. The old Rays was addictive. We went weekly! Like highly addictive donut crack. But now… alas…we’ve gone once in the past year. They(the donuts we brought home) were admittedly okay… but something was still not the same. We steered clear of the jelly filled ones because they looked very awkward. If donuts can look awkward that is. Everything else just okay. But by all means keep going if you love any kind of donut better than… gasp! Dunkin Donuts(which really don’t count as a true donut). Just one opinion!

Ray’s has wonderful donuts that are in high demand! You have to get there very early to get the ones you want. It seems a bit pricey, but I guess it’s worth it for the quality. One thing that I can’t understand is how unpleasant the older woman is who is usually working. She never smiles, never even really looks at you. She seems perfectly miserable to be there. There is usually a big sigh and shrug when you ask for a donut. God forbid you ask a question! I know this is a family business, so perhaps that explains why she is always there — she’s probably a family member. Whatever it is, I guarantee that they lose some business because of the sour attitude. It does keep me from recommending it higher. One more thing — watch as they ring you up. I’ve been overcharged a couple of times. I don’t think it’s intentional.

They have awesome mini cinnamon rolls that are as small as donut holes! Just small enough that you don’t feel guilty eating them.

I won’t be coming back here. I haven’t even tasted the donuts yet but the«why are you in my store» attitude & exasperated sighs coming from the woman getting my donuts… Not worth a return visit.

This donut shop was referred to be by someone who literally drives 20 minutes out of their way once a week to bring their donuts to work. I used to always visit this quaint little place in Parkville that was broken down and replaced by a Price Chopper and since then I’ve been reluctant to try another donut place… however, this was a great surprise! One problem is that when you search for it, it pops up as a Lamar’s(not sure if it is a freelanced chain or what) but it goes by another name: RAY’s! Once I found the location, I learned they have very early hours and really resemble the old shop I used to love. They have a huge selection of all your favorite donuts and it’s hard not to order one of everything when onlooking over the range of donuts and iced goods! My partner and I got their managers special of 13 donuts of our choice for only $ 19.00 bucks and brought home a great variety of tasty treats. Their cream filled long Johns were to die for and my dad loves their huge Cinnamon Rolls the size of your head! I am excited to get more of these delicious treats when I’m back in Kansas City and though they are a bit pricey, it is worth it!

Lamar’s is a Kansas city classic. I am not sure why. Many of my co-workers would rate it much higher than I do. I find the donuts to be of reasonable size, but they have, to me, a faintly bitter taste.
