Since it was the last night of the restaurant i have to give it a fantastic rating. Nostalgic — i was there in 1994 when it opened. Bottles of wine were sold at cost tonight — enjoyed it with great company. We’ll miss Ruth’s Chris and the marvelous steaks they offered. Hope you come back to KC soon!

Without a doubt, the best steakhouse in Kansas City. Order their filet. You won’t be disappointed.

We were her for the first Saturday of Restaurant Week… My boyfriend and I have wanted to try Ruth’s Chris for a while, but neither one of us was really willing to spend the significant amount of money we knew we would have to for dinner here. So when I discovered that Ruth’s Chris was on the list of restaurants participating in Restaurant Week we made reservations immediately! So since we knew we’d have to find parking on a Saturday night in the Plaza we ended up at the restaurant about 45 minutes before our reservation. The space was wonderfully cozy but after about 10 minutes we managed to find seating at the bar to enjoy our drinks while we waited. I ordered a dirty Kettle One martini and the bf got Johnny Walker Red. Right at the time of our reservation the host came and took us to our table. Since the space is cozy(and since it was a Saturday night)…we were seated near the entrance and by the outside door. So while it was nice; it wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences. However, the food and service… was phenomenal and made it so we didn’t really care that we could feel the cold. Plus I had 2 martinis which meant I got really warm. Ok enough about getting there and the bar experience… time for what really matters… the delicious food!!! We both decided on the Restaurant week menu — Salad, the 8 oz filet(OMG!!!) and their chocolate sin cake, that was quite a beautiful little bit of heaven. Not to mention the fresh bread… OMGFRESHBREAD!!! Ok, so I know I’m a little too excited about the bread… but I don’t each too much by way of bread, potatoes, etc(whole Paleo Diet thing) so I get very excited for good bread. We got another loaf… that’s how delicious and fresh and warm it was. Back to the food again… the salad we had… I think we ordered the steakhouse salad. It was crisp cold, and topped with this amazing blue cheese dressing(went great with the bread!). The steak… oh god the steak was amazing! I’m picky about how my steak is cooked and the fact that they were able to get it near to perfect was amazing(I like rare plus so it’s hard to find the right area). The meat was so tender(seriously you could have probably cut it with a fork!). OMG the sides! The sides! The mashed potatoes were amazing; and another rare luxury for us(yea bf is paleo too). Last but not least… the chocolate sin cake… O.M.G. one of the best chocolate desserts I’ve had in a long time. Also it was dark chocolate — important because most chocolate desserts that I’ve had are some variation of milk chocolate. It was rich and melt in your mouth perfect. I had a moment with the cake. I think is will definitely be a place that’ll be saved for special occasions — otherwise the rich food will be the end of us!

Went during KCRW on 1⁄26 for dinner. Got a seat in the lounge which worked out perfect, since my date had to cancel. Cesar Salad was huge and enough for a whole meal. The dressing was just the right amount and shaved parmaesean a perfect match. Steak was cooked perfectly with 3 Shrimp on top. Nice touch and a perfect accompaniment. Had some sizzle on the plate, and just the right amount of butter and was great dipping the shrimp into it. One of the best meals I ate all week. Duo of Chocolate Sin Cake and berries were a perfect way to end this meal. Would recommend them for their steaks as well as this restaurant. Will return.

This is a great steak house. It’s rather pricey so I saved it for a Restaurant Week Pick, and I have no regrets(well…maybe that I waited 2RW to try it) The space is cozy but everyone’s got just enough room to have a private dinner. The hostesses can be a little off-putting(they seem to respond to a classier crowd) but the servers and staff are attentive and very knowledgeable!(this was in fact the only restaurant to explain the RW premise) I ordered the house salad with blue cheese dressing, Petite Fillet, and Chocolate«sin» cake and a glass of Franciscan’s Eclipse. The food was phenomenal and the wine was great! So the Wine paired wonderful with the salad(dressing was light, and consisted mostly of the blue cheese crumbles) but not so much with the Steak or Dessert, but if your a better wine-o than I am, start with a glass of the Eclipse and finish with a Cabernet. The fillet is simple, only salt and pepper served with butter and challets over a 500 degree plate. While I may have described similar preparations as «boring steaks» the melting butter and hot plate transform the simple flavors into a robust and really fun dining experience. The steak remains true to its own flavors so the only thing distracting you from«mmm…steak» is «mmm…hot steak». The only thing better? the Chocolate sin cake… who needs flour to interfere with chocolate, No one! The chocolate is rich and dense but never too sweet! I highly recommend Ruth’s Chris for anyone who’s willing to saveup for a Great dining experience out on the town!

When you choose a star rating, a little pop up says«Yay! I’m a fan!» ACCURATE! Absolutely accurate! First of all, if I believed in God(I do not) I would assume that on the 7th Day he created Restaurant Week, and then on on days 8 through 14HEATEVERYWELL! A colleague told me about this event that apparently happens once per year, and obviously my first choice is going to be a genuine Kansas City steakhouse! For a mere pittance you choose between several items, all of which are of the most refined quality. As per usual, I had so many questions for my server, which made me feel self conscious considering how busy it was. But they were very professional! Was there pasta in their minestrone? Was the salad plate for the Caesar reasonably chilled? What is a STEAKHOUSESALAD??? And could they just give me a little pinch to reawaken me when I fall under the spell of the entrée choices? An 8oz filet, more meat than I eat in a week! SOLD! I’d have leftovers for at least three more meals! No disrespect to the stuffed(with what!!!) chicken breast or the entrée portion crabcake, I’m sure they were top tier. But for me it was steak! I was nervous to eat more than a few bites of my Caesar salad(plate straight from the ARCTIC, friends! Cold as the ARCTIC! Well played!) in anticipation of my steak, but what I ate was wonderful. And that steak… are they that phenomenal every day or just during the week dedicated to restaurants? Two bites in and my right arm went numb! Heart attack? Stroke? NO! Somehow I’d gotten my hand underneath the plate and the sheer weight put my arm to sleep! True story! And mashed potatoes, oh MY! So rich. A few more bites in and I was slurring my speech, just so decadent. And did someone say decadent? I think it was ME! Wellity, wellity, wellity… Chocolate SIN Cake, eh? If I don’t believe in God, could this devilish dessert convince me of his adversary! I couldn’t tell you because the flavors were so rich my vision became spotted and I swooned. Just so good. I’m a darn chocolate sinner! The devil’s work! Ha! I can’t wait to discover more joys during this week of restaurants. In the meantime, the physical joys of dining aside I think there may actually be something wrong with me. I’m going to the doctor!

Dinned here on Xmas day. Been wanting to try this place out. I have dinned at the«top 3» steak houses in KC. Capital grill, plaza 3 and Ruth Chris. Service was great but I did not enjoyed my steak as much. Steak was covered in grease and over cooked. They dimmed the light(tricky) and I wasn’t paying attention to the color of my steak. I think my mom got her steak to my temp and I got hers. She had the filet and I had the ribeye. I believe all steaks should be cooked medium rare to savor it’s flavor, nothing more. I ordered the steak house salad thinking that there’s steak inside it but apparently the title is misleading… Which my waitress did not tell me. I would have ordered a different one. The sides weren’t that great also. All in all, I prefer the other two. This place is definitely disappointing for the expectations that I had. Not worth the money.

For me, the best thing about not eating steak and going to a great steakhouse, is that you can order excellent seafood and the price is always much less than your typical filets and ribeyes. I was able to get nice scallops and crabmeat for almost half of the cost of a nice porterhouse. Yet at a seafood restaurant, it would probably have been 30−40% more expensive. Went here for a business dinner. Service was excellent. In fact the manager was nice enough to park my car himself(and after reflecting on this, I change my rating to 5 stars). Drinks and wine were excellent. Everyone at the table, except me, ordered a steak or filet. Everyone thought they were great. The sides are also excellent. Be sure to get the sauteed mushrooms. The special Ruth’s coffee makes an excellent liquid dessert.

Best tender and juicy steak I have eaten so far! The portions are great and everything other than the steak was also amazing, the calamari appetizer, broiled tomatoes sides and the cheesecake was bombdiggity! Worth Noting: I thought when I order cheesecake for dessert that it was just going to be a slice but NO, it was a whole mini cheesecake!

I took my husband to this restaurant to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and because we just had a baby. It was the only date night we have had in over 9 months since he is also serving in Korea. I was expecting something spectacular based off of the reviews as well as some hearsay from friends that live around here. The dinner was so so… we got crab cakes as an appetizer and they were good but not worth $ 18. We each got the Ruth specials where we choose a starter, entrée, side, and desert for $ 50. The salad was ok nothing fancy. We both got the 11oz filet which was by far the best part of the meal. It was so hot and tasty! The sides were not that great. I got mashed potatoes and my husband got brussel sprouts. My potatoes were cold before I even finished my steak. When it was time for desert we were told we could get any desert on the menu for a $ 4 up charge so I was super excited. When the waitress came over she said your desert is on the way. She ordered it for us without even asking!!! My whole problem with this restaurant was the waitress names Kelsey. She was the most horrible waitress we have ever had! I have had better service at Applebee’s! We got there and waited for 20 min before we even got our drinks ordered. The waitress had 6 tables but she spent all her time at 3 main tables and after hearing her conversation it was because they were her regulars so us and the table behind us suffered greatly in service! The only thing that did not go empty was my water glass since they had a dedicated server sent around to fill water. My soda went empty and took about 15 min each time for her to notice. We waited 35 min to place our orders and we were sitting with our menus shut looking around which is a sure sign. The waitress seemed to rush us when we saw her which was exactly 3 times in a dinner that took 2 hours. We felt like we also got treated very poorly because we are a younger couple and were most likely the youngest there. From the time we stepped in we felt stuffed in a sense like we were being judges and shouldn’t be there because we didn’t look like we made enough money. That is exactly how we got treated as well and because of that our waitress only got a 15% tip! I was well prepared to give a 25−30% tip since we heard the service was so so impressive there. I was sorely disappointed and after spending $ 170 for two dinners and a horrible experience I will never go back there and I will never recommend this place to anyone! If you are a young couple do not go there and if you do ask not to be placed in Kelsey’s section.

You get what you pay for. Ruth’s Chris is pricy and, now stay with me here, yes it is a chain. However it is still the best Steakhouse in Kansas City. Until recently I told people that the best steak in town was at the Capital Grille. They are still an amazing 4.5 star establishment, and a steak there with their bearnaise sauce is a thing to behold. It has been years since I’d gone to Ruth’s Chris, so perhaps my endorsement wasn’t entirely fair. We came to Ruth’s Chris with a few things in mind. We started with the Veal Osso Bucco Ravioli. Five of them came out with a delicious side of sauteed garlic and spinach. I generally don’t order veal myself, but since our friends had looked forward to my sampling this dish I gave it a try. It was soft, succulent, and delicious. Next we moved on to a basic salad(with an excellent blue cheese dressing) and then came the main course. My medium rare 6 oz filet mignon was cooked to buttery perfection and accompanied by seasoned shrimp(tender and not spongy as they have a tendency to get) and some of the best creamed spinach I’ve ever had. As noted in other reviews, the steak came out on a 500 degree plate and slathered in sizzling butter. It was, in a word, heaven. So do what you need to do. Take out a loan. Send your kids to the mines(only for a week!). Save up however you can and enjoy an amazing meal the next time there’s a special occasion(the kids getting home from the mines, perhaps?).

I have heard great things about this place, but never had the chance to try it which is why I jumped at the opportunity to eat there when I heard there was an IT seminar there. The staff and management had everything extremely organized(they’ve probably done this quite a few times and it showed). All the servers were very professional, friendly and prompt. The meal started out with a salad, which I thought could have been better. The salad was complimented with a super tasty, crunchy French or Italian bread that certainly made up for the salad. This round I tried the stuffed chicken breast with garlic herb cheese and buttery goodness. Amazing. Probably needed to take a baby aspirin to help my arteries from clogging, but it was completely worth it! The sides they served with it were creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Enjoyed the mashed potatoes, but I wasn’t a fan of the creamed spinach… not that it was bad, just not my cup of tea. They finished off the meal with a cheesecake accompanied by fresh berries. Delicious! Definitely will be back to try the steak and other items!

My problem here is the temperature on the thermostat. My friends & I were all sweating & no matter how good the food or the service is,(which they both are), it’s hard to have a nice time when you’re dripping with sweat. I asked the waiter to put the air lower & he said their system couldn’t go lower. Cool it down Ruthy & you’ll get 5 stars.

I thought Ruth’s was good we ate here in Louisville. However, all the butter over the steaks were so rich it upset my stomach(too much grease) Not saying it wasn’t good(ITWAS!) Just a little too rich for me. It was the same in Louisville, KY.

I’ve had to explain Ruth’s Chris to people a few times, so here’s my thumbnail speech: highest quality steaks cooked in an 1800-degree oven and served on a 500-degree metal plate in sizzling butter. If the filet was any more tender, they’d have to serve it in a glass with a straw. The Kansas City location on The Plaza is very enjoyable, the service impeccable and the staff right up to the manager very attentive, with every detail from drinks to desserts a delight. The citrus in our cocktails at the bar was wonderfully fresh. Side dishes, like the sweet potato casserole I had in Nashville(I’ve been to three RC locations), are out-of-this-world good. Suggestion: look for special offerings on , which may include a small dessert — significant because all items on the menu are a la carte. The wood-paneled Ruth’s Chris experience is well worth the price. Breathe it in, savor it, wallow in it. Wear your bathrobe, have them bring you a cigar and a brandy, stick out your paunch and strut around like a rich white guy. Today is your day! When it’s over and you are ripped from your chair by your spouse — your fingernails gouging the linen tablecloth and then the rug — you will weep bitter tears, having discovered the standard against which all other cuts of beef will be judged for the rest of your days on this miserable planet.

When it comes to chain high end steak houses, some people are Capital Grille, I’m definitely Ruth’s Chris. I’ve been to both, the atmosphere and quality at Ruth’s Chris is on a different level. I come here a lot with my family, at least once a month. We always have a drink or two at the bar, then wait until our booth is ready in the bar area. I think the bar area provides a more fun atmosphere compared to the formal dining area. Each time we go, Tom(the manager) always greets us by name and stops to talk for a few minutes. We nearly always ask for Craig as our server and he will come take our table even if it’s not in his section. He knows the wine list in and out and you sincerely feel that he cares that your dining experience is awesome. Awesome steaks, great wine list, dark, intimate setting, excellent service. How can you go wrong?

I visited Ruth Chris during their Happy Hour. Their mixed berry margarita was absolutely delicious; it even had yellow sugar around the edge. I had 2 appetizers but I have no idea what the official names are because the margarita was really strong, but it consisted of shrimp and steak and garlic bread. All were fantastic. The best part of the meal was dessert. Their crème burlee was the best dessert I’ve ever tasted — sugary, sweet, and perfect. Their cheesecake is homemade and equally as delicious. I also had the privilege of meeting the general manager. He was kind and accommodating.
