There are not a lot of fun spots in the Northland as it is so I would expect each establishment to really work hard to impress their customers so they don’t have to head 10 minutes south to downtown KC for food, fun & drink. I was totally disappointed with our service at Side Pockets. There were only a few people there but service was slow, food quality was mediocre and the bill was incorrect. When the manager came to discuss the bill he projected that it was our fault not his servers or his system. We are paying customers, VP, CEOs and business owners so we were appalled at his insinuation that we were looking for a free deal. He finally offered us a gift card which we refused because that was not the problem to begin with. Good customer service still matters Ron. Customers lost forever.

I don’t like the«bar scene.» I don’t go out drinking. It’s not my thing. If I’m going out, give me some place to go or something to do. Side Pockets gives me something fun to do. Side Pockets is a very large restaurant/bar/pool hall in the Northland. Very spacious and with plenty of room. They have tables you can play for $.75 a game or rent tables by the hour. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, when they happened to have league day going. There were still plenty of tables for my wife and I to use. We picked ones up by the dart boards, where it was pretty secluded. The crowd wasn’t rowdy or loud. They were pretty subdued and focused on their games and hanging out. They have a pretty nice menu, but my wife and I didn’t partake. Maybe next time. This is a nice, fun place. We will be back.

Food was good, nothing extraordinary. Was a little disappointed that they didn’t have more vegetarian choices on the menu. I liked that there was no smoking inside, that was a plus. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. Loved the plethora of TVs in this place to watch the UFC fights. Patrons are friendly as well. Lots of pool tables, dart boards for the patrons as well. Recommend for groups and great for watching your favorite sporting events.

Hubby and I went for lunch one day. First time customers just went for lunch and my hubby was skeptical about it at first!!! But we went on in and sat down. The waitress was prompt at giving menus and bringing drinks she was very pleasant! Told us about some of the things on the menu, took our order and when our order was done… Brought out the biggest darn tenderloin we have ever seen!!! Hubby said it was delicious but it took him all evening to finish it!!! We brought half of both of our lunches home so needless to say the portions are huge!!!

I’ve been going to this side pocket for over two years now with a group of friends for ufc events, and whenever we get Eric as our waiter we get excellent service. For the most part we don’t really have any problems from the staff. Oddly tonight we get a really bad waitress. A person from our group got there first and waited 20 minutes before the waitress went to help him. She walked up from behind him and threw the coaster from onto the table and said what do you want. When we get there she finally brings the drink and tells him he can either pay as he goes or start a tab but she needs his credit card so she can charge each order. We politely tell her that we’ve been coming here for two plus years and never heard of that rule ever. She throws an attitude because we were shocked at the response and sudden new rule and immediately told us we could talk a manager. The manager was an older bald white guy and he had an attitude from the onset. He told us we had two options and we can pay as we go or give them the credit card. We again asked why we have never heard of this new pay as you go rule or hand them a credit card and he just rudely told us those are our options. We refused and asked for another server but was denied. We always tip our server extra because on of UFC nights we take up an a table. I always order a lot of food but tonight only ordered a coke but we had to pay for the sodas up front as well. Even on my friends receipt they put Korean on there… I’m like for real. I will not be supporting this business ever again for the horrible and rude service. Oh and we are not even Korean but that shouldn’t even matter. I finally tracked down our usual waiter and asked about this new rule we never heard of. He apologized and said I quote,“if they don’t know you or trust you they make you pay up front.” I almost lost it but just thanked him for the prior services and said good bye. I will never support a business that profiles their guests.

My teammate told me not to Unilocal about this place and kept telling me this place was good. Well, I felt like I should Unilocal about this place anyways. I think the worry was me writing a bad review then nobody wants to go there for a team lunch. My reviews were based on what I thought my entire experience was. It just happened to be not so good in the last place we had a team lunch at another place I won’t mention. Anyways, I came here with my teammates for a team lunch on a Friday. The place was empty but there were a lot of tables as well as pool tables. The menu had a lot of items that sounded great so it was hard for me to decide what to order. I was about to order one of burgers then decided to order the Chicken & Steak Fajitas($ 14.99 for both chicken and steak, $ 11.49 for chicken, and $ 12.49 for steak). Everybody else on my team ordered various things on the menu, but I’m not sure what they were exactly(probably burgers and sandwiches). While we waited for our food to come, some of us went to shoot pool and others just talked with each other. Their pool tables were in okay shape, because I saw part of the table’s felt had a rip in it. I guess someone was doing masse shots on the pool table; however, I didn’t see any signs that said you couldn’t do those types of shots. Our food came out all at the same time. Mine came out last because of the hot plate. The amount of steak and chicken and others on the hot plate was a lot and there were about 5 tortillas. I tried to jam pack each one with as much food as possible but still ended up eating the meat with my fork. I did notice the steak was a little too well done; however, I thought the chicken was pretty good. Overall, good place for some food and for some pool.

A bit of a dive, the cheap beer($ 4.50 for 22oz. premium beer) and pool($ 0.50) are a draw. The staff is attentive and they have a huge number of pool tables, so there is typically one open at all times(except during UFC fights). They have a few regulation sized tables but most are bar-sized. It’s far from upscale and has a local crowd, but for night of pool and reasonably priced beers, it gets 2 thumbs up.

I’ve been to Side Pockets quite a few times, but had never been to this location. I finally decided to come to this one and enjoyed it even more than the other location. This one is bigger than the one in Lee Summit, closer to my house and has more tv’s throughout the place. Just like the other location, they have drink specials here and a pretty decent variety on their menu. I can definitely see myself coming back again.

I’ve been here probably a hundred times plus in the many years. For bar food it’s actually pretty darn good and exceeds most others bar food. During the past few years service simply gets worse and worse every time. Our group of 8 to 10 friends that met here every Monday night has moved to other establishments where service means something. It’s not just one server it’s a large portion of them, that are simply in off in la la land. If you’re in any kind of hurry this isn’t for you.

The area Sidepockets bars are known mostly for one thing: pool tables. This is true at this one for sure. Typical bar food, and the few times I’ve been here of late, not a very welcoming crowd or staff. The Happy Hour specials might be worth stopping in, but not a ‘destination’ unless you are in the area and want to play pool. If a ‘dive bar’ could be the size of a small warehouse, this is definitely in that category.

I like the idea of steak specials but this one didn’t live up to my expectations. I tried their Thursday special of Bacon Wrapped fillet with fries for 8.99 I think. The 6 oz fillet seemed much smaller then 6 oz to me. But I guess its partly my fault that I am a regular at both the Quaff and steak nights who have 16 and 12 oz steaks that barely fill me up if it wasn’t for the loaded potato or sweet potato fries. I will go back to have a couple drinks and try the pork tenderloin though which looked huge and tasty. Our waiter was very attentive as well.

Definitely an A-OK, solid kind of place. We were in the area on Saturday, as we had to have a nail removed from one of our car’s tires, and thankfully we were able to kill the hour and a half the repair took in Side Pockets. We’ve actually driven past Side Pockets many times, and always discussed popping in, but just had never gone. On the weekends, most of the nights that we drive by the parking lot is packed, and there’s really nothing much else around in the strip mall where Side Pockets is located, so I have to assume it’s a fairly popular place. Once we went inside, I could see why. First of all, as David A. said, the place is HUGE. Tons of pool tables, tons of TVs, a large bar, and plenty of seating. It’s sort of dive-y, but not in a bad way. Even though we were there at 1:30ish on a Saturday, Side Pockets was doing a decent enough level of business, with all sorts of clientele, and a lot of folks seemed to be regulars. We decided to get some lunch, which was a good choice. The menu was reasonably priced and had plenty of options — mostly standard bar food, but you could get a steak too, if you were so inclined. I had a quesadilla, which was good, if not stand-out fantastic, and my husband had boneless bbq buffalo wings and fries. He loved the fries(they were crispy, which is what he prefers), and the sauce on the«wings» was really good. Just the smell had me drooling, so luckily he shared a couple of bites with me. We didn’t have beer this time around, though there were plenty of specials, but I can say that their iced tea is good — none of that sweetened fountain crap. Hurray! We’ll definitely be back in to play some pool and chill with a beer or two.

Drink much? Pool much? This is your place! MANY tables. The place is huge. Feel like dressing up? Wrong place. Jeans and sweats are OK. Want to get your drinky drinky on? Happy Hour runs here frequently. They have 2 for 1 burger specials even(all their types of burgers). Like watching sports? LOTSOFTV’s tuned to different games. So, we didn’t play pool, but there were lots of teams and tournaments going on. Nice friendly crowd. You see professionals and blue collar here. Everyone lets their hair down. The food was great and so was the booze. They serve huge glasses of beer for happy hour. I think you can play pool for free at lunch time if you buy a meal there. The only knock I had against the place was the service at the bar. The bartender was nice, but the bar was huge and he didn’t pay a lot of attention to us at first. Later on in the night, when we were wrapping stuff up, he came around. I’m told the service here tends to be slow. I was amazed at how many different games they had playing on the tv’s. I think I drank 3 huge beers(imported), shared the 2 for 1 burger special, and got out of there 3.5 hrs later $ 7 lighter. WOW!!! Parking is cake, though be careful driving around the lot. It’s pretty crowded.
