Sol Cantina

This is a good spot for a happy hour on a nice sunny day. They have a patio on the back and the inside has a fun and relaxed vibe. The house margarita leaves a lot to be desired, so definitely try one of the flavored ones instead. The food here is hit or miss, depending on what you order, but I’ve had more food that I would consider good than bad. A fun place to stop in with friends after work for a drink and some appetizers before heading home, but I would likely find somewhere else to eat a full dinner.

Sol Cantina is a great spot at Martini Corner. I’ve been eating there for years; will never get tired of it! I often take my guests here when they come into town. It’s really a fun place to go for drinks, dinner, or lunch. Great margaritas! When the weather is warm, people congregate on the patio under umbrellas or the tiki hut. Sol is a great destination and has awesome food!

The Cali Wrap is a chicken burrito with french fries and queso inside!
The chicken nachos are a Sol Cantina classic! I have to get these for an appetizer each time! People go nuts over these nachos and often order another a second
The So-​Cal salad with chicken or steak is mixed greens with a black bean and corn relish. I recommend the cilantro lime vinaigrette. I dream about this vinaigrette and have tried to make it at home– it’s my favorite!
My husband’s favorite entrée is the Baja tacos with steak, chips and queso; plus a Dos Equis.

Drinks are what you expect. Prices during Happy Hour are great and reasonable when not.
Lunch is great as I can eat healthy if I want (great kabobs) and it’s fast.

This place is solid. It’s moderately priced and has a cool vibe. The music inside is pretty eclectic and the crowd changes depending on what time of day you’re in. Tuesdays they have beer and taco specials (of course) and when I was there last night, my friends all got 2 tacos and 3 beers and their total was seriously $ 8. That’s hard to beat in Martini Corner. I like the industrial décor and the waitstaff is friendly although they do seem to be a bit understaffed at times. No worries, come here with a group of friends and eat your fill of tacos. If you’re not a fan of techno music or the hipster crowd, come before 9pm and avoid this place on the weekends. Other than that, this place is golden.

This was my second visit. First with a friend and stumbled across Happy Hour. We sat at the bar, had great food and excellent service.
Second visit, I invited six other work associates. Probably the worst service I have ever had anywhere. Food came out wrong, one persons order was forgotten. To top it all off, I ordered a drink three times, two of them were during happy hour. I then asked the third time 30 minutes after happy hour was over. 35 minutes later, still no drink, I asked for my check. When I did the waiter brushed an apology about the drink. I reminded him that I had asked three times and twice was during happy hour. I only mentioned this so he would understand I was a patient guy and had been trying to get a drink for an hour and a half … But his response: oh I couldn’t give you happy hour price anyway, it’s after happy hour. Totally missed the point, but hopefully it was understood when I left no tip. I’ll not be back, and I definitely won’t bring other business to an establishment that does not value customers.

Sol Cantina has many monitors for sports watching. There is a patio and the front wimdows roll up when you want to enjoy perfect weather days. There a lot of drink specials and the food is generally pub grub plus. A nice choice in mid-​town Kansas City. Only caution — no draft beer.

I have been going here for years but as of last night i will never go here again. we came in to have some drinks and before we could get situated some waiter came through like 2 times trying to rush us into buying a drink. She was very rude with her approach. The lil short manager dude walked through and asked how everything was going and i tell the guy the waiter was a little rude and this clown tries to talk me into not feeling direspected as if im just supposed to be happy im in this place and can get drinks. I tell the guy its not a big deal and i just decided to go get my own drinks. Apparently that was too civil for him and he wanted to sit and argue with me, a customer, about how his meth head looking waiters are just energetic and not rude as if i dont know the difference. He almost immediately started saying well we can go somewhere else and then eventually made us leave. We caused no problems or nothing but i guess this clown wanted to feel like he had the upper hand amognst other reasons i believe. Anyway we went to the foundry were the service is better and to be honest the atmosphere is a better look. Im never going to what i use to call the pumpkin head (sol) ever again never.

The food is good enough but both my visits I was faced with God awful service. The servers are really slow, and they always tell you they’re very full when they’re really not.
It’s a haven for screaming misbehaving college frat kids.

Just waited 25 min outside on the patio with no one coming to our table. I went inside and they said they would get to us soon.
Go next door, they greeted us and have much better service. I will not be back to sol.

Solid Nachos! The menu is VERY small so dont look for something with a wide variety. Pretty cool vibe … if there are people there… I will go back as it is a good location and good food.

I cannot believe this place wasn’t better staffed over lunch for Cinco de Mayo. We sat for nearly 20 minutes before a server came to us, after I had gotten up twice to let someone know we were there (very politely too). We watched other tables near us get seated and get their drinks. Finally a girl came over and said «Sorry, there is no one to take care of you guys, but I am going to get your orders» Um, what??? Why would you EVER say that to a table of customers? Just take us as your table, and maybe NOT make us feel like a burden. Took an hour to get our over-​priced sub-​par food. Big thumbs down.

I’ve been to Sol Cantina numerous times and I’m always on the fence…
There’s nothing real «special» about it but I really do like their patio. I’ve had the nachos, tacos and even chicken salad and all were not too bad. I’d say the nachos and some frosty beers during Happy Hour aren’t too bad of a deal.
I recently ordered a mixed green salad with their cilantro vinaigrette and chicken for lunch and it was actually fresh. The chicken was the same that they put on their tacos, I would have preferred just a normal griled chicken but it wasn’t bad.
Another thing that goes into my 3 star rating is the fact that my car was broken into in their parking lot about a year and a half ago and they did nothing to help the situation. Long story short, my back passenger side window was busted out, nothing really taken (I don’t keep anything in my car) and was out $ 200. This was in daylight as well.
If they could actually take surveillance and care when crime happens, it would help the cause.

This place has the best fish tacos ya dingus. You don’t like the atmosphere of the bar? Just come here for the tacos. Why didn’t you think of thaaaat?

This is definitely a restaurant for the younger college aged crowd. That being said, I’m a little older and looking for a Better meal and not just cheap drinks. I don’t think i
I’d go back based on the quality of food. But I do like how they give you a variety of side dish options. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. In short, excellent service, just ok food, seems to be a place for the younger crowd.

The manager on duty on Friday, January 16, was the worst manager I have ever encountered! For some reason he thought it was appropriate to hold my friends debit card hostage because someone at our table (that we had just met for the first time) left without paying his tab.
The manager felt it was my friends responsibility to try to find this person and have him come back to the restaurant and pay. Both me and my friend paid our tab. I even gave the waitress an extra tip because she was trying to do her best and it was very busy.
However, we were told by the manager to «get out» of the restaurant because we would not (actually we could not because like I said, we had just met the guy!) contact the person who walked out without paying.
To be clear, I believe anyone who has been in a bar has experienced being at table with a group of people and possibly not know everyone at the table, i. e someone’s new boyfriend, right?
Well, not according to the manager! He seems to believe that everyone who comes into a bar knows everyone that they are sitting with and how to contact them directly. If you don’t, then this manager will think you’re a liar and will accuse you of such! Horrible managerial skills to treat your PAYING customers in such a manner!!! I will NEVER go back!

Come one, come all. Hands down my favorite establishment that Martini Corner offers. Probably because I love their sangria margaritas! I will say the food is okay and their queso tastes a bit funky but the drinks are far more important here.

Sol Cantina is Martini Corner’s answer for a Mexican resort-​themed spot for your inner party girl or frat boy. This place focuses on the party while the food is mainly for decoration.
The venue features a large bar down the middle, which can be surrounded, with some tables up by the front windows. Towards the back there are more tables and then a large garage door can be opened to the back deck, complete with an additional bar, for outside seating and standing if needed.
The food isn’t flashy or complex, but it’s not bad for what it is. They have nachos, shrimp tacos and other Americanized Mexican-​style recipes. Beerwise they go with some old stand bys: Corona and Dos Equis. They’ll get a little help from their American brothers: Miller, Coors and Budweiser. They might serve Boulevard, but truthfully I’m not sure if they do. The main focus is on the party. There’s plenty of Fireball, mystery shots and whatever else is in fashion to numb the flashing lights and dj squiggles as the evening marches on.
It’s not my scene, but that’s okay. It looks like they have plenty of customers who come out and enjoy themselves… and hopefully call a cab to take them home.

Met a friend here for early evening drinks and appetizers. We wanted margaritas and our waitress recommended sangria flavored margaritas. In general I do not like tequila but these margaritas were absolutely delicious. My friend and I agreed these were the best flavored margaritas we had ever had.
We also got the salsa, queso and chips. Salsa was good consistency with a good amount of spice but not too much. Chips were paper thin, but good if you like that style. The queso was typical white queso you could find in any Mexican restaurant.
Purchased 2 margaritas, half of the chips and salsa, queso, and one beer for $ 20. No deals, as we visited on a Saturday. Before 7pm there were $ 2.75 Pacificos usually $ 4.50.

Came here with a friend after a Unilocal Elite event to have some cocktails and a light snack. I was surprised by all the tvs. I didn’t realize it was a sports bar. It was taco Tuesday so we had a couple of cheap tacos. They were decent. The chips and salsa was OK too. The margaritas were a little sweet — I had the house margarita.
This would be a nice place to come for Happy Hour. The service was good and the food seemed fine and they have good HH prices.
