One of my favorite golf courses in the city — private or public. This A.W. Tillinghast design is suitable for a range of skill levels. Whether spring, summer or fall, Swope is always in great shape. While a long hitter can easily overpower the course, the small greens, tree-lined and sloping fairways(several, not all) and lush seasonal rough act as its defense. The views of downtown are fantastic and you’ll frequently see deer, turkey and other wildlife roaming the course. Situated near the Kansas City Zoo, it’s not uncommon to hear the roar of a lion — seriously. Swope offers many leagues and tournaments throughout the spring and summer which are fun and competitive. Both are designed to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. Due to the number of leagues during the summer it can be difficult to secure a tee time during on some week nights. That said, it’s generally pretty easy to sneak on as a solo or with a group without much of wait.

Nice course and great greens manager. He let us jump in durning league night and it worked out great! Was a little soggy but doubt there are many courses in KC that aren’t right now.

Played Swope on Saturday with buddies and loved it. It’s well kept and challenging(slope of 128), with plenty of uneven lies and deep grass if you chicken-wing a shot or seven. Cart service was frequent and the egg sandwich kicked off my round splendidly(the coffee helped too). Greens were in good shape. My buddy and I were first to check in. When the attendant asked how many were in our group and we responded 8, he chuckled and rephrased«how many are actually coming?» Apparently it was obvious that we hit Plaza bars the night before. Sure enough, only 6 made it! Fun fact: there is a great view of downtown from #17

this is my favorite golf coarse in the area. my complaint is it seems every time i try to get a tee time they have some sort of tournament going on. this is your classic persimmon golf coarse that was ahead of their time. yardage is nice for all level of players. look forward to taking my son this year so he can experience this great coarse… if i can get a tee time.

Iwas really impressed with swope. My dad and I were golfing there a few weeks ago and it was 110 degrees. The grounds crew was out wattering the greens several times per day to keep them from burning up. The course was a nice traditional course that has trees. There is at least one tree that still has a few of my golf balls. Good experience.

pretty nice public park with great views and is very scenic, lots of trees so watch out if you cant keep the ball in the fairway. fairways could use a little TLC

One of the most beautiful courses I have yet to play on. The Swope Park course is located within… well… Swope Park. If the history of this course isn’t enough for you, the challenging hills and breathtaking views will. Driving range here is marginal at best. But decent enough to go hit a few up warm up balls. The 18 hole course is a very challenging course. Winding fairways and large variations in elevation make this a really nice course to test your all around game. I will admit though the grass could use a little bit more attention. The rough at times can be almost impossible to deal with. There are also a few holes with high bluffs and patchy grassland. I strongly suggest if you are a newbie at golf you bring a box or two of balls. They are easy to lose on this course. Overall, it’s a great place to play and it will push your limits reasonably without going over the top.
