We went again yesterday afternoon, and have now been a few dozen times, and they get five stars for consistency, and the food is really good. The salsas are still very spicy and delicious, the food was again really good. They were pretty busy but service was quick and friendly. My husband had a plate of tongue/lengua, rice, beans and tortillas, which they did perfect. I again had my standby, cheese enchiladas. This has become our go-to Mexican restaurant when eating out.

Have you ever wanted to eat incredibly average Mexican food while surrounded by lovely oil paintings of horses? Then get in your car and head to Taqueria 7 Lenguas! This place is fine, but I’m certainly not wowed. And beyond those lovely works of horse-art, I can’t think of much to say that’s exciting. So let’s bullet point it! — The guac was tasty, but the chips were kinda stale. Maybe not even stale, but just on the cusp of becoming stale? Either way, the guac was still good. The green salsa was too hot for this gringo, and the red salsa just tasted weird. I took a few bites trying to place the secret ingredient, then I just stopped caring. — Service is VERY friendly and on top of their game. My water never went empty, which is a difficult feat, considering how much of a guzzler I can be. There was no language barrier. That rarely bothers me because of my bomb-ass 3 years of high school Spanish, but if that’s a concern of yours… now you know! — I had a chorizo burrito. It made me sad, because it wasn’t as delicious as I thought it would have been. the chorizo was all mixed up with a f-ton of refried beans, and it was just like eating a tortilla filled with Mexican goo. — My dining partner said his tacos were delicious. They have lengua, which not all Mexican restaurants serve. — I REALLY want a horse painting. Particularly the grey one, just to the left of the TV. OR the one on the right, with the guy riding the horse while waving the Mexican flag. Either would go well in my condo.(hint hint) — I don’t totally regret my time and money here. But I doubt I’ll be back.

Last night(Monday night), I had a bit of a stressful afternoon and was not in the mood to wait on dinner. We had a coupon for this joint called 7 Leguas that we got from the back of our register tape from the grocery store for $ 5 off of $ 25 purchase and so we hopped in the Caddy and coasted down Central Avenue in KCK to this comfy little bistro. To my knowledge, the only parking is on the street. As we walked down the sidewalk, I espied two Doughnut Eaters(cops…I’m just kidding… I love cops!) grazing at their table and we knew that if Doughtnut Eaters like the place, it has to be good. We walked in and there was a small group of people watching a Telenovela blasting from the TV and I finally just blurted out, «Do we sit anywhere?» A young woman, our server, said yes, just sit anywhere so we plopped down at the nearest table and our server came forth with menus and a greeting. We placed our drink order and then came the chips and salsa. I ordered a small bowl of guacamole. Now, let me tell you about this salsa… the green was tasty and mild… the red was hot! But Dios mio was it delicious! Some of the best salsa I’ve ever tasted. Nothing canned or jarred about this. Maybe it did come out of a jar or part of it did… I don’t know but it sure didn’t taste like it. I couldn’t stop eating it. The guac came out and it was FABULOUS! Chunky, made with cilantro which I normally despise because it tastes like someone just shoved a handful of Tide® in my mouth. Somehow, the cilantrol melded gracefully with the other seasonings and the avocado and made for a buttery, slightly nutty, fresh, avocadoey guacamole. Again, some of the best I’ve had. Wow! And then the server took our order. My dining companion had carne asada with beans and rice and corn tortillas and I had three cheese and onion enchiladas with beans and rice. The carne asada was perfectly roasted and seasoned and delicious. Now, I know cheese and onion enchiladas sound boring but I truly love this combination and 7 Leguas did NOT let me down. These enchiladas were tender and delicious. The sauce was superbly seasoned and spicy. I actually ate the WHOLE thing and didn’t take any home. And get this… the beans and rice were awesome. I LOVE beans and rice but frankly, most places serve them like bland, practically tasteless fillers or after-thoughts. The beans and rice acted like they were competing with the enchiladas for recognition and flavor. Wow! Totally delicious. Don’t be intimidated. The place is tiny but it’s clean and the server was polite and professional and pleasant. The food was nicely prepared and presented and the price was right. This is going to be one of our new favorite places! BTW, Matt S. is correct. Leguas means Leagues in Spanish and I’m not sure why Pancho Villa’s horse’s name was 7 Leguas but it’s true. 7 Leguas is also a place name in Mexico and the name of a popular brand of Tequila.

This place is named after Pancho Villa’s horse. We had tacos, tortas and a burrito, all very, very good. The beans are awesome. They had a great green salsa but had run out after one bowl, and we wanted a more!
