Love the atmosphere and the bartenders. Heather and Brenda kick butt. Must try the martinis and the lil beers.

I think this is a wonderful little spot! I recommend coming Thursday nights for the trivia and trivioke. It’s laid back fun plus the bartender and many of the regulars have beautiful voices. I will be back as frequently as I can!

The Piano Room is The Piano Man song come to life! The décor has a «little too well lit» mish-mashed thrift store vibe. The before 10PM crowd was mature(a few walkers and canes) and got younger as the evening progressed. The mixed crowd wore everything from«out on the town» attire to sweats and medical scrubs of all things! The Bill Murray-esque lounge singer played electric piano and sang a WIDE range of of easy listening tunes and the wait staff served mostly domestic beers. It’s really not our kinda’ place but we were only there one time for and hour and the place was pretty well packed so, what do we know?

Wow! Did not see this coming from such a drabby spot in waldo! The piano room is quite a fun spot! There is entertainment every evening and the waitress/bartender has a killer voice to boot. She is pleasantly charming as she slings drinks while nailing a song. There is no kitchen here, but feel free to bring your own food or order in! We ordered Chinese food from next door. What a cool place to go. I’m a fan.

I thought it was a wonderful bar. My date and I walked in and were immediately welcomed by other bar patrons and the staff. I was younger than all the other patrons by 20 years but that didn’t stop us from having a good time. Heather was an amazing singer, she was the reason I went to the bar and she didn’t disappoint! The only thing from stopping me from 5 stars is that they stopped singing around 12 but the bar was open for another hour and a half. I will be back!

Let me be blunt. Read and accept the 4 and 5-star reviews. Discard anything else. The Piano Room is an absolute treat. Come with an open mind and wallet. This is the eclectic, eccentric ‘Cheers’ of Waldo.

Came here with a group of friends after dinner one evening. This was everyone’s first time here but by the end of the night the bartender was treating us like regulars. Great atmosphere and the best singing bartender in KC.

Very cozy, great atmosphere, friendly(mature) crowd. Only reason I took away a star was because of how I was treated by the waitress when I wanted to join the bartender(Heather) on a favorite song.(And no, I was not drunk, she just kept singing all the songs I wanted to sing. C’mon, give the customers a shot!) Anyway, the waitress literally tried to grab me to stop me, emphatically telling me that NOONE sings with Heather. What the hell? Get a grip guys… it ain’t the Great White Way… it’s a strip mall in Waldo. Probably won’t be back because of my experience, kinda soured me on the place, bummer, I really liked it otherwise.

What a fun place to hang out! It is like a short trip back through time to the 60’s or 70’s when you walk through the door, in an awesome way. I love that it is a dive bar, with very unassuming clientele. A «Cheers» kind of place with great bartenders! It is very impressive to watch the bartenders take orders, pour drinks and sing all at the same time. If you want to grab a drink, strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and enjoy coexisting with your fellow man, this is the place. It is a great little spot!

A true KC gem. Small and dive-y(but clean!) with friendly staff and even friendlier drink prices. No food, just a bar, but it’s a great place to hang out and chill. We go every Monday night for the live jazz combo who are terrific.

A crazy gem! It’s sad that when people see«piano room», they probably think dueling piano bar. THISISNOTTHEPIANOROOM. It’s a Piano Bar with a singing duo(one behind the piano, one behind the bar). They take requests. They poor strong drinks and are SO friendly. I love the motto on their website, «A touch of class in Waldo». Class isn’t about the what’s on the surface. It’s about what’s in your heart and the piano room has got it! Now, go get some!

If you like dive bars and talent this is the place to be. Heather is essentially in charge of all forms of entertainment, serving drinks WHILE singing. A distinguished gentlemen tickles the ivories and belts out the classics as well. The crowd here ranges from the geriatrics to the young and stupid, all(for the most part) lovely company. I’ve been here a handful of times and have always had a good time, from having a random Snuggie party come through, to a senior citizen Santa vs. Reindeer party being taken over by an ugly sweater party taking a party bus around the city. It’s all in the spirit of the season! (Oh and I TOO thought this place was an actual piano store for the longest time, I would often pass it on my way to Bobby Baker’s.)

A great little dive bar. One of the bartenders seemed to be on a little power trip this night, but the second bartender was so damn cool she made up for it. I will definitely frequent this place more often and if it wasn’t for Unilocal I wouldn’t have known about it. The piano music ain’t no Sinatra but fits the atmosphere and blends in perfectly. The shots are very generous and not overpriced. The patrons are there to relax with a drink and you won’t find some of the pretentious bs you find at other places. This place oozes, «come as you are and have a drink.» I like it!

True story: Up until recently, I thought this was actually a piano STORE. I lived at 89th and Wornall for a year. My boyfriend lived there even longer. We regularly shopped at the Price Chopper we affectionately called, «the ghetto Price Chopper.» I’d noticed The Piano Room sign many times, but never paid any attention to it. Damn it! I LOVE places like this! Went here a month ago after a coworker told me about it. More specifically, he said the bartenders have a heavy-handed pour when it comes to cocktails. Divey, with strong drinks at affordable prices? Definitely my kinda place. It’s a blast to the past — I seriously doubt they’ve redecorated the place since the early ‘80s. But it’s cool in that Bobby Baker sort of way, except with way more seating and no annoying one-body-width aisle to traverse to get to the bathroom. You never know what kind of entertainment there will be when you go. The first time I was there, one of the regulars painted my portrait. Based on her mood and her perception of me, she painted«my fortune.» Then explained each item in the painting.(My red hair means I’m adventurous! The dots on my forehead mean I have heavy things on my mind.) A couple nights ago, it was an impromptu guitar session.(Maybe the chick singing had actually planned it. She did have her guitar with her, after all.) Still, something unexpected for my friend and I. I know it’s called The Piano Room for a reason, but I’ve never been there for the piano player. Must be a weekend thing — I’ve been there only on Tuesdays. Guess I’ll just have to go back repeatedly. Oh darn.

I have been here twice, and I will continue to return once in a while when I am with friends who appreciate it. A couple of points to get before coming here. The name«piano room» implies talent You’d better like show tunes, bad singing, and an electric piano, as that is the majority of what you will hear in THIS piano room. The crowd is an eclectic group of younguns, old(ancient) locals, and lacklustre ordinary people. People are friendly, free of pretense, and out for a fun, relaxing time. I am a beer drinker, but the best this place has to offer is a Blvd Pale bottle. That’s ok, though. I can always head across the street for my fancy tap beer fix, if necessary. Now. The amazing, shining star of The Piano Room? Miss Heather Price, the singing bartender! Wow. She blows me away with her effortless Norah Jones-type husky voice. Did I say WOW? Unfortunately, she is so busy pouring drinks she only sings every four or five songs. My latest visit was with a long-time friend who was in town from Boston for one night. She is a singer, and we happened to be in the area and decided to make this our main hangout for the night. Such lovely memories! Thanks, Piano Room! You were perfect!

Life is not complete for a Kansas Citian if they have not yet made a trip to the Piano Room. I, for one, have a lifelong history of this establishment(back from when it was called Inge’s –named after Inge herself). My parents have been frequenting this bar for ages. And many of the patrons that I still see sitting at the bar on a Friday night, are the SAME people I saw there the first time I set foot in the place. This is a true piano bar. Not the crap that people seem to go nuts over in every bar district. But a neighborhood bar, WITH a piano, AND a piano player(named Dave McCubbin), who knows a variety of tunes. And if your are lucky, you will actually catch some very talented singers in this place. If you are looking for something fancy(or food), you won’t find it here. But if you are looking for a group of music-lovers, in a dive bar environment, this(in my opinion) totally beats karaōke. The Piano Room has character. It also has reasonably priced drinks, some very amusing bartenders, and a parking lot(as it is located in a strip mall). If you are hungry — I strongly suggest going to Swagger across the street for food before or after your Piano Room experience.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet. I’ve checked in here nearly every weekend for the last couple of months — it’s time to put my commitment down on(e)paper! Well, the Piano Room has pretty much become our home away from home. The bartenders are so much fun, and Heather even belts out some *fantastic* tunes, along with the live painist over in the corner. The clientele ranges from the one-foot-in-the-grave regulars from decades past(talk about history!) to local young’ns from the neighborhood, and a lovely array of gentlemenly eye candy on their way to Missie B’s, after they get a good dose of Broadway to get their toes a’tappin. Make sure you try a «Squealing Tiger» for a great pint o’cocktail.

You could drive up and down Wornall 100 times and never even notice The Piano Room. In fact, I probably have. It is cleverly tucked away in a strip mall anchored at one end by a Price Chopper. The Piano Room is a lesser known, but well loved, dive bar in the collection of great dives that make Waldo one of my favorite neighborhoods to have a drink. All in all, a great place. It has cheap drinks, friendly staff and comfortable bar stools(often overlooked, but very important). What more could you want?

Look to the right of Price Chopper and there’s the Piano Room. This bar has a cool vibe going on. It’s very laid back, fun and welcoming. The bartender, Heather, was friendly and has a pretty singing voice. She sang harmony as well as a few solos. The piano player is great too. He kept everyone interested in the songs. The drinks are priced well and the shots were healthy pours. I doubt I will ever get up and sing(me & singing = not a good thing) but I enjoyed listening to the songs. The conversations around me were also entertaining. All in all, it was a great first impression.

One of the best secret spots in Kansas City. It’s a total dive bar, but the staff is fun, it’s not overly crowded, and prices are good. They had karaōke and a piano player there when I went, and it was a fun time. The bartenders even have head microphones to sing backup, which is certainly entertaining. Stuck out of view behind a McDonald’s and next to a grocery store is a strange location, but it’s worth hunting down.
