Not only did I leave with a gorgeous and wonderful sounding, heirloom, Kauai-made tenor uke by Ray Rapozo — but the amazingly helpful guy in the shop could tell my 2-year old might also want a uke… so we left with 2. It turns out she LOVES playing with me! She also loves putting it in and taking it out of the case. She loves the picks. It’s just all around wonderful. And we take hers to the beach and all get to play — we are having so much fun! Variety, service and aloha are to be found here

I’m so glad we came here. Mike was helpful and very knowledgeable. He was very patient with us as we asked many questions and he provided lots of great information. I am so grateful we came here to buy our ukulele. My children and I received a music lesson, excellent service, and we came away very happy! Thank you, Mike!

I could have sworn this rating was already done, but alas it was not… anyway, we were on vacation Summer of 2015… big family one. My oldest who is into music and pretty much self taught on the guitar was interested in learning the Ukelele. I made him a deal last time we were on the island that the next time we returned he can take lessons. Initially we were going to go back to the Coconut Market Grove for the lessons, but the whole place was under renovation and the place was closed. So one day we stopped off at KM&S. Was greeted by the male standing behind the counter, and as usual being on an island was casual. After a look around the store, inquired about lessons. The gentleman was able to introduce us to Becca who was one of the store’s instructors if not the instructor, anyway we set up a 30 min lesson which ended up being an hour lesson. Little did my son know that he was leaving with a new Ukelele and case. Thanks to Becca’s musical talent, knowledge, he left with the Uke he wanted. So if any one vacationing in Kauai and want to take up the Ukelele… GO to Kauia Music and Sound and ask for Becca!!! You will not be disappointed!

We were staying in Kapaa and both my children(16 and 24) decided they wanted a Ukulele as their Hawaiian souvenir(they are musically oriented). We went to Kauai Music & Sound, not knowing anything about the instrument. They had a wide selection of beautiful(expensive) Ukulele’s and also had a nice selection ‘low range’ starter instruments. My kids wanted to spend about $ 100 and ended up around that range(or a bit higher). My daughter compared hers to the same brand found on Amazon; the store was about $ 10 higher(made in China, as all the low range instruments all were). Our experience was really pleasant; the store clerk was very informative, patient, and totally nice to all of us. We asked him a fair amount of questions, both about the Ukulele and about living in Hawaii. I’m sorry I don’t have his name, but he was in a country band and rode a bicycle to work. He gave my kids a chord book, suggested cases, and really gave us alot of information about the Ukulele history and how they are made. He also was appropriately quiet when the kids needed to think about their purchases. I recommend doing this at the beginning of your vacation; by the end my son was playing a song already and is attached to his instrument. It’s worth spending a little extra to get a higher quality. I wish I could afford the high end ukulele; they were BEAUTIFUL. Again I want to highlight the store helper who really made this a wonderful purchase experience.

Mike at Kauai Music and Sound is one of the most pleasant people I’ve ever dealt with. He spent a lot of time with me over two days as I decided on my next ukulele. He started by walking me through their entire stock, all of which is out on the floor to be played. I had so many questions, which he answered, and he gave me a lot more information I’d never thought of. Then he left me alone to play. When the store got noisy he put us in a quiet back room, where I made my decision. This is an excellent shop.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Kauai Music and Sound. We had casually discussed looking at ukuleles while we were on our vacation and I had even looked up a couple of spots — none of which were actually KM&S. While walking around Kapaa at the beginning of our trip we stopped by and were helped by Becca. She was great and helped us with everything from how to hold and strum a ukulele to our first notes. She also went through the different models, sizes and features. It was great and there was no pressure. We left and walked to the beach and after the wonderful experience we decided we didn’t need to look anywhere else and walked back to pick up our two new ukuleles! Becca even accommodated our schedule and gave us a lesson that day and on our last full day on Kauai. We could not recommend Kauai Music and Sound high enough.

Wasn’t sure what kind of ukulele I wanted at first. I went to some other stores on the island and BYFAR had the best experience here. Everyone was super nice and reasonable to my price range. And they had there prices on there item(may sound weird but some stores don’t which is kinda sketchy) the brought the price down on more expensive ukes to give me a larger selection for my wallet to choose from. Everyone there knew what they were talking about and could actually PLAY a uke where some stores that is not the case. In super glad I checked out other stores cuz I found this place and my uke at a REALLY good price!

We decided to rent a sound system for our party instead of hiring a DJ. The kind and very helpful gentlemen there were very patient and answered all our questions on how to hook up and use the sound system. We even brought in our video projector to have them show us what plug goes where, etc. Since the system also runs on bluetooth they made sure we knew how to sync our smartphone to it so we could stream the music for the party. Everything went smoothly at our party and had no problems at all. Thank you for all your help KM&S! You guys are awesome and mahalo for all you do for Kauai’s muscians!

Aw man, I forgot the employee who helped me! But needless to say, he provided me great customer service. He was a laid back, barefoot, ukulele guru. He have gave me great insight about the instrument and was never pushy or about the sale. I ended up buying my first uke, case, and beginner song book– all within my budget! Since then, I haven’t put my ukulele since November! It’s my favorite hobby and I am extremely happy I bought my ukulele here!

These guys are aloha! First words you hear are«aloha, if you see something you like take it down and play with it.» So, this local 9 year old girl comes in and grabs down a $ 700 uke and starts strumming. She says she likes it but she has to save up for an American Girl doll first. Doesn’t matter, she is welcome to play. I have been in a few times and met three of the staff — all made me feel like a friend. They have a great selection of CDs by local musicians. I will find an excuse to go back.
