Snuba here. Not scuba or snorkel… snuba. It’s the new thing. Beautiful views and soft sand. The visibility from 40 ft above is sick… I can see my toes, ma! Aloha.

Love this beach! It isn’t crowded and the waves are a ton of fun to play in. It does have a strong undertow so don’t go in unless you are somewhat capable of getting out. But the water is very shallow so you can easily stand.

Where this shows up on the Unilocal map is absolutely incorrect! It is more near mile marker 32 about a mile so before you get to Honolua Bay. Slaughterhouse beach is also known as Makuleia Bay Preserve. There is a very nice secluded beach here. There are about 12 parking spaces to the left coming from Kahana. You had down a set of stairs I have yellow railing to get down to the beach. The beach is very nice and there are sometimes good enough waves to go boogie boarding. There is an area to the right where you can go snorkeling. It is not the best but it is okay. Worth bringing your snorkeling gear if you plan to spend the day here anyways. But I would not go here specifically to go snorkeling. There are much better places on the island. We would definitely come here again and spend the day hanging out on the beach, boogie boarding, snorkeling. I would feel comfortable bringing any personal items and leaving them on the beach while in the water. And there are some areas of shade of the trees you don’t have an umbrella.

This was one of the best snorkeling places I went to during my trip to Maui. Mokuleia Bay is a protected bay and no sunscreen is allowed in the water. This will hurt the bay and the different types of fishes you will see. My girlfriend wanted a nice place to see sea turtles and schools of fish. We went to Honolua Bay which was next door and found the waters to be murky and snorkeling to be limited, which was a disappointment for her. Driving over to Mokuleia, we noticed alot of people parked and decided to return early the next morning before the crowd arrives. The next morning, we got to Mokuleia around 8:30am and were one of the first ones there. Plenty of parking if you go early and the walk down the steps were easy. Once we got into the water with our snorkels, we saw schools of fish and even got to swim with a sea turtle. Make sure you swim around the bay and be careful of snorkeling close to the rocks. The waves can be strong, so best to go in pairs. Overall, it was a great experience for snorkeling and a great place to take someone special. I would go back again with my girlfriend in a heartbeat.

Mokuleia Bay(aka Slaughterhouse Beach) is a secluded semi-protected bay in West Maui. It was named after a slaughterhouse that used to operate nearby. To get here drive north on Highway 30. You will see a green railing with steps going down to the beach and several cars parked nearby. There’s parking for about 20 cars. This place gets busy on the weekend but not too bad during the week. If you miss it, there is a turnaround just north of there by Honolua Bay. This place is not busy and has some great snorkeling and swimming. You can walk down the steps to the beach and get in the water and go. While snorkeling here I saw two different types of sea turtles and a lot of larger fish. The weather was rough in the afternoon so go early. I’m a beginner to snorkeling and I had no trouble at this location.
