This is our go-to beach on this side of the island. I love that it’s a lagoon so it’s not too wavy for my little toddler. Of course my husband prefers the waves out in Kailua side but that’s just too much of a drive and parking hassle for me to just enjoy a couple hours. Every time we get here after 9 am, there is no parking, but that’s ok. I don’t mind paying the $ 10 for parking(credit cards accepted). I wish they had more shady trees closer to the beach though… especially since they don’t allow any umbrellas or shade tents. So usually we just cozy up to some other family hoarding the tree areas. Besides, we usually aren’t spending too much time in the shade. In order to make the $ 10 in parking worth it, we usually make some musubis and bring drinks and snacks and spend at least 2 hours there swimming and playing in the sand and just chillin’. I appreciate that the bathrooms there are pretty clean in comparison to the other public beaches. So most definitely my family and I will return here. I suggest be prepared to pay for parking and just bring some snacks for lunch so you can stay longer and make your ten bucks worth it!

If you didn’t know it already — Ko’Olina boasts four lagoons. This is the furthest from the HI Exit and is in close proximity to the Ko’Olina Boat Harbor. Parking during the weekends and peak hours(evenings) tends to be hit or miss(more likely a miss if you’re going during the weekend). You can 1) either wait at the gate for the parking attendant to let you in 2) park elsewhere 3) pay the parking fee at the harbor entrance. I find that if you are friendly and wave to the attendant, they will usually let you in(in my opinion, it seems locals get the preference for parking here — WIN!!). This is my FAVORITE lagoon! This place is never really crowded and you have your choice of sand or grass, and shade or sun. WARNING: there are no lifeguards here so swim your own risk and within your abilities. I’ve found that the beach and parks are very clean and people here really pick up after themselves. You can take the walk way and stroll all the way up to the first lagoon and if you’re lucky enough, may even catch a free concert from lagoon three(from the musicians playing at the Villas). Lagoon 4 in my opinion, tends to be frequented by the more laid back folks. Every once in a while you’ll find a turtle or two swimming in the lagoon as well as a few fishes(visibility is dependent on weather and how strong the tide is coming in). I’ve seen people snorkel here but I find it best to just bring a «floatie» and get lulled to relaxation by nature’s swaying ocean. I get tickled every time I see tourists here because I can only imagine how much money they have paid to vacation in my back yard. So lucky we live Hawaii!

I had an amazing time here with my family(including two young children under 3). Beautiful, clear, warm water great for wading. Free public parking but it fills up quick after around 10am on weekends.

Cyndy’s Bottom Line: the best place to enjoy a beautiful day in paradise! Besides having a resident Hawaiian monk seal stop by to catch a nap on the warm sand on a beautiful sun shining day! The water is so clean because of there is a good current flowing thru to circulate the water. –a big parking lot with ample parking –a walking/jogging path –benches to enjoy the view and whale watch –there is a grassy area too for picnics –two showers at each side of the lagoon.
