I suggest everyone that loves crunchy fried things to try this and you won’t regret it. My mom brought it home one day and was like you have to try this and I did from that point til now that’s the only one I would eat.

Recently we tried a half-pound bag of Papa’s Crunchy Crunchy Chicharon from the namesake roving van that operates out of the Kapolei/Barber’s Point area. This all, thanks to «Diner E». To first make clear, I’ve always had quite a DISTASTE for Pork Rinds(deep fried pork skin), the commercial stuff you get in bags at the grocery store, finding its texture bothersome, while likening its flavor almost to liver(at least in my mind). PASS! Yet when I got a taste of Papa’s Crunchy Crunchy Chicharon, I became an instant convert of the genre. Hey now, THIS is GOODSTUFF! What really sets this Filipino style Chicharon apart is the easy-to-eat strips of THICK-cut skin, along with its underlying fat(yes, this stuff is basically deep-fried FAT) that has this — as advertised — fairly hard, satisfying crunch to it. It’s also seasoned with just the right amount of salt and garlic salt to punch out its«porkyness». The only drawback, according to the ingredients on the label, is that Tata also puts MSG on it. Must be an «old school» thing. Of course, this should only be eaten in moderation anyway. But one of the best things about it is the SAUCE it comes with, which is a simple combination of Hawaiian chili pepper water and vinegar. The acidity and heat in the watery sauce really rounds out the flavor, plus it immediately cuts into the hardened deep-fried fat, helping not only to soften it texture-wise where it counts, but also in heaviness as you swallow and stomach it. Perhaps that wasn’t the most appetizing way to describe it, but believe me, along with the fantastic execution of the Chicharon, the sauce makes all the difference! Masarap-sarap! Papa’s Crunchy Crunchy Chicharon sells for $ 7 per half-pound bag and $ 14 per one-pound bag, which includes a container(or 2) of Chili Pepper Water/Vinegar dipping sauce. Wow, that was a LONG review for one simple snack. Talk about«Podagee». lol
