We tried the Sunday Brunch at Bistro 829. We decided to start by ordering an omelet made by the chef. We had to interrupt him from his texting conversation to order. He was not happy about that and was not polite about taking our order. This produced omelet orders that were not even close to the ingredients we requested and this was after the waiter had to come to our table and take our omelet order for the 2nd time. I had to ask for serving spoon for the bowl of fruit. The cheesecake they were serving for dessert was burnt. The waiter was polite and said he was sorry, but still charged us the full price. It’s so sad that you have to leave Katy for a decent restaurant. I would not recommend this restaurant and unfortunately we will not be back again.

I remember going once to the old location on Mason behind Einsteins and it being very good. One trip to this location and yuck. I ordered the beef wellington(which it was not) medium rare. Seems like they wrapped a filet in dough and cooked it. The steak was medium rare, but so was the dough and no other flavors that I could discern. I may give them another chance, we’ll see.

Quaint neighborhood bistro offering high quality ingredients and well-prepared dishes. Nice wine selection and really good service. Follow your meal with a short walk across the courtyard to Babaloo for a drink and some salsa dancing… or watching if you are a terrible dancer like me.

And again… Bistro 829 is absolutely lovely! What a hidden gem. The music alone makes this our favorite spot, but there’s much more. Food is consistent when it comes to the menu and those off the menu chief specials are off the chart. Don’t waste the fuel in your super ego monster truck or spend a cramped hour in your micro Eco car on trip downtown when your best option is right here in Katy at Bistro 829.

Really wanted to like this bistro, as we’re always looking for good spots close to home. Unfortunately, the experience was not satisfactory, particularly for the $ The good — nice ambiance; crab cake appetizer — tons of fresh crab, good flavors; bread pudding was good The not so good — shrimp cocktail: shrimp overcooked and flavorless; osso buco: needed about 4 more hours cooking. Was definitely not the fork tender we expect; chicken fried ribeye: not certain why they ask how you would like it done, as it comes out medium well, tough and flavorless; overall service: while friendly, our server was obviously overwhelmed with tables(strange, because this is not a big place). Long wait for appetizers, then entrees arrive before we can finish apps. Then things went back into slow motion — my wife and mother sat with empty plates in front of them for at least 15 minutes. Another 10 minutes before we were asked if we’d like dessert. Another 15 minutes for desserts to arrive. Another 15 minutes to receive the check(I think you’re getting the picture). With so many choices in the area, I don’t think we’d go back or recommend Bistro829. Sorry.

The restaurant is nice and felt cozy. The service was great and so was the food. It was well prepared and tasted delicious.

I’ve had good and bad here. I do not like the décor at all, I think it looks tacky, but that could be 100% my problem. BUT, if I have to sit in a small intimate area, and I’m getting sick of looking at the surroundings, that does become their problem because I don’t want to go their anymore. It also needs to appear separate from 3 olives. It’s the spoiled older sister of 3 olives that requires more to be spent by simply walking into the next room, not really getting anything better or more. I like the food, most of it, and the things I haven’t fully enjoyed were by my own experimenting to expand my range of tastes, not by major flaws by the kitchen or menu. Try it for a relaxed, semi nice date night. Stare at your date, not the walls.

Ok, let me start by saying this is the first review I have written ever… but tried this place based on good reviews so i felt obligated to try to save someone else from a disastrous dinner. First, we were seated at a booth. I then sat my hand down on the booth in a pile of crumbs. my daughter then recognized that there appeared to be frosting on her napkin… at this point we almost got up and left and regretfully we stayed… needless to say we moved on our own to a new table… So my daughter orders a Dr. Pepper and she had a strange substance floating in the drink… I ordered the table wine and was lucky if there was 4 oz in the glass… at one point my daughter got up for dinner went to the ladies room and came back and said it was«nasty» she said there was trash every where and it looked like it has not been cleaned in days. Also, only one stall had toilet paper… our waiter was daized and confused while our drinks were empty and the the food took forever to arrive(on a tuesday night)…the food was average at best and my 14 year old daughter said we should have went to Buffalo wild wings… Needless to say, this was overall not a good dinner but my daughter and I had plenty of laughs at Bistro 829’s expense. And honestly that made it worth the trip… Bottom line, if you want to go out in in Katy, go to Perry’s or cook your own dinner…

Special occasion? Head elsewhere! 1. Food: 2 stars. Very average. Blackened Chicken cream sauce reminded me so much of my own, that it made me sad to pay 20 bucks for something I dish out at home. And i’m not a great cook — so it was definitely disappointing. My husband’s beef wellington was also nothing special for almost 25 or something. We’ve definitely had better(at their very own 3 olives next door. How ironic) 2. Customer Service: 2 stars(or less?). They were slow. Our server didn’t have good recommendations — or answers to our questions. Oh and icing on the cake? We were«celebrating» our anniversary. My husband called them in advance and informed them about it — as they ask you to when you make reservations. And they said they help us celebrate special occasions by bringing out a little cake. So he went with that, figuring that a little cake is just fine. HA! They brought nothing out! After asking us if we were celebrating anything(again), they just wished us twice. HMMM. not greedy for freebies — But when you pay almost $ 35 per person, you have some expectations — more so when you’re made to have some. We could’ve brought our own little mini cake to share with our wine had they not given false hopes. 3. Ambiance: 4 stars. That was the only thing worth liking. Save your $$ and eat elsewhere. You might find better food and service for your money.

Came to this restaurant because of the excellent reviews only to be disappointed. The waiter was nice but couldn’t even pronounce the items on the menu. The wait for our food was horrible and it wasn’t even busy. For an appetizer we ordered the crab cake and when it finally came out it looked like a hamburger patty. Waaaay over cooked. Our entrees were cold. Overall not a great experience.

This is the second time my husband and I have gone to Bistro 829. We really had a wonderful meal this evening. The service, food and ambiance is great. The waiter we had the first time even remembered us… could be that my hubby tends to be a bit silly when we go out, but surely it mad us feel special that they remembered us from a few months ago. Tonight we both started with a shrimp appetizer. I had the Texas shrimp, and it was. Texas sized portion. It was grilled shrimp, about six grilled jumbo ones, in a wonderful sauce served over polenta. It was huge! My husband had shrimp cocktail and said it was divine. We both had the beef Wellington. My pastry was a bit soggy, but the meat was cooked perfect that I didn’t care. Hubby made out because I was full from my app that he got to eat half of my Wellington. Just all around great place, great service, great prices. Just pleased…

My husband and I went here for the first time tonight(2⁄7). It was wonderful. The wait is a bit long because it’s a small place. However, the staff is wonderful, the service was pleasant, and the food was amazing. We recommend the Lobster Bisque, Beef Wellington, and, New York strip. The atmosphere was very romantic. It was a nice dinner. #satisfied

Bistros is one of the most Underrepresented restaurants in the Houston area. The original location was somewhere in Katy and moved to the new location between westhimer parkway and peek. The environment is romantic the staff is friendly and inviting. The cuisine is changed at the new location but there’s a restaurant beside a called 3 olives that has some of the more traditional Italian dishes. The same man is he owner and chef at both restaurants. I highly highly recommend Bistros 829 or 3 Olives.

The boyfriend and I decided on a last minute meal to Perry’s without reservations but they didn’t have a table until 8:15 and we weren’t in the mood to wait. So we decided to give this place a try. We walked in around 7:15 and there were only a few other couples… nice that there was no wait. The place needs a little help in ambiance. The lighting was a bit too bright(surprisingly) and the music was generic and a tad cheesy at times… from one of those cable tv stations that have«easy-listening» music. It almost feels like a nice intimate restaurant to have a date but its just not quite there. Service was ok… The waiter didn’t seem to know his stuff and had to look at his notes to recommend specials and that was after I asked if there were any. But I did notice an older gentlemen who was waiting on other tables that seemed to have it a bit more together. Also, we were seated near the kitchen and the servers had long discussions right by our table about«who’s food is this»… Not exactly professional. HOWEVER! Despite the misguided ambiance and the lack of professionalism from the waitstaff, the food was really good. Complimentary bruschetta and roasted red pepper mousse… I would have rathered warm baked bread… it was ok. Cesar salad– perfectly done House Salad– dressing was a bit sweet but great Special– Snapper with crab, pasta, sauteed spinach– was really flavorful. Very nice dish. They did say the pasta was going to be spicy and there was absolutely no spice to it but the boyfriend requested some crushed red pepper and that made it. Filet with asparagus and potato cakes au gratin– YUM! I had them put the mushroom reduciton on the side because I am always weary of sauces on steak… but it was actually quite good. The potato cakes au gratin were amazing. It would be the perfect side for a brunch. In fact, leftovers turned into scrambled eggs with diced up filet and that yummy potato cake. Sorry no room for dessert… we had the rest of our Earthquake Zin. It was a quite marked up from what we pay at Specs– I believe it was low 20s at Specs and $ 50 here. More than double is a little much… but the wine is really good! So there’s my recommendation. haha Overall, I think the food is really good, right up there with Perry’s. They just need to get the service team together and keep working with them.

Easy to find, intimate set up, good atmosphere for a date, nice waitstaff. i guess it’s okay for american food. i had the tomato soup which thankfully didn’t taste like it came from a can. it did, however, look like it was 75% oil. the boyfriend had the chicken fried prime rib. he was satisfied. the bread pudding for desert was my favorite part. they did a great job on that. the restrooms were a mystery. we eventually found them by walking through some unlabeled doors into an adjoined venue.

Groupon has once again forced my mouth to go to another restaurant in Katy! I was shocked at the pricing to this place when looking at the menu online, but given that I did get a good deal with the Groupon, I went there with an open mind. First thing I noticed is the décor is rather cozy to go along with a really intimate dining space. Space eye candy aside, I was curious to know why they charge so much for their food! The menu was pretty extensive, so even with looking at the menu online, I was still unsure what I even wanted to get. I asked the staff what they recommended, and that is why my experience started to sway towards 4 stars. So many people of the staff chimed in on what they personally felt was the best items and gave compelling rationale why they felt that way. After a thorough explanation of the best items on the menu, couple with what I was leaning towards anyway, I decided on my menu items. I ordered the duck tamales, the chicken fried prime rib, which is a house creation, cheese cake and bread pudding that had A New Orleans name attached to it. My thoughts on the food. Truth be told, I NEVER understood why people like tamales. When I saw duck tamales on the menu, my mind kept seeing and saying tacos. Duck tacos seemed like a cool concept so I ordered duck tamales, while thinking tacos… brain fart chalked up to me! All in all, I still did not get the concept, but they were not bad. The chicken fried prime rib was actually way more flavorful and juicier than I expected. I actually enjoyed that coupled with the obviously hand made mash potatoes with various herbs in it. You would expect a slab of meat of that size to be a chew fest before you can get it down, but it was actually well cooked to order. The cheese cake was decent, but my wife wanted them to remove the New Orleans affiliation from the bread pudding. I don’t really get bread pudding that much either, being an ice cream man, so the bread pudding was okay to me. I probably could not pay my wife to even eat a forkful of it again though! All in all, my experience was pleasant. I still think they charge too much for their items, but I may actually consider going back without a discount… maybe! With a groupon, I definitely would give the place another try.

Great place for a date night. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the place, we there on a Monday night food and staff were very nice. Our waiter was very good and explained everything we asked very well. I had the The Roquefort Crusted Snapper very good meal I enjoyed it very much. Overall we loved it and will be back for live music on Thursday’s or brunch on Sunday’s.Keep up the great work Bistro 829.

Bought a deal on Groupon — But would come here again for sure! Went for dinner on a Tuesday — the place was dead. Which kind of worried me because 3 Olives next door seemed like the place to be! However, we were in for the best meal! We started with the Duck Tamales which came with a mango sauce. It was a good size for an appetizer with 2 tamales. Great flavor in the tamales and a sauce that we almost licked the plate for! I had the Roquefort Crusted Snapper… AMAZING. As soon as he sat the plate down in front of me, my taste-buds started working! The snapper was topped with a basil Beurre Blanc and served with spinach risotto and sautéed vegetables. Everything was perfectly paired. I want to know how to make that basil Beurre Blanc sauce… yummm! Ryan got the Chicken Fried Prime Rib. He is VERY picky about prime rib and he enjoyed it a lot! It was topped with bacon-poblano cream gravy and served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The sides was OK. Nothing amazing. The portions are pretty big. We both took half back home — which made for a good dinner the next night :) The service was phenomenal — always had a full drink and a clean table. He even brought an additional plate of the sun dried tomato mousse and crostini. My only suggestion for the Bistro is to redecorate a little. Put some paint on the walls and frame some of the murals instead of drilling them all to the walls. The place needs a little deco-love!

Another great Groupon find! Bistro 829 is the sister restaurant to Three Olives. They even share the same bar. I highly recommend reservations. The layout is small and intimate with dim lighting and white linen table cloths. It’s probably one of the more intimate restaurants you can find in Katy. We started off our meal with the Crispy Calamari. It was lack luster. They have the exact same dish over at Three Olives so I’m assuming they are sharing kitchen and chefs. What were the standouts had to be hands down– Chicken Fried Prime Rib. Chicken fried steak is usually made with a bad cut of beef. Geniusly, they incorporated a great cut with a perfect balance on the crispy batter and jalapeño and bacon gravy. I could swim in that gravy. We also ordered the Sasparilla Pork Chop that reminded me of my mom’s Christmas ham but not as good. It’s a valiant effort on a pork chop but I would rather go to Perry’s to get theirs. We kept the night going with a pitcher of red sangria. Sangria was good, fruits were bad. I like to nibble on the apples and pears in my sangria. They threw in limes and lemons with rhines on them. How are you supposed to eat that? The Chicken Fried Prime Rib is enough to earn this place 4 stars and a devoted fan.

I am so glad Bistro 829 is back in Katy. I’ve been there twice now and it has not disappointed. A their other location I was fond of their lunch bleu cheese burger, but that is not on the new menu. The waiter suggested the prime rib sandwich instead… ohhh yeah. It was unbelievable! Last Friday night my wife and I went for dinner. We had made reservations and it is a good thing we did; if they weren’t full to capacity they were close. We were seated promptly and the waiter answered our menu and drink questions and made thoughtful recommendations when asked. I had the filet mignon special and my wife had the beef tips. The presentation and food was top notch along with the service. After the Bistro we walked over to Babaloo’s International Café and Bar which is a separate review. We’re glad we can go to a lovely dinner and hit nice place for an after dinner drink without having to drive 20+ miles.
