Super good and wonderfully local! Stopped in for breakfast before a long layout and about on the island. So glad we did! My omelet was full of fresh veggies and cheese and super delicious! The portions were so big that I was full way past lunch! Not getting ‘hangry’ while being a tourist can be tough, but Aloha Deli made it easy! Mahalo for the tasty food and the great service!

Flew from Oakland this morning and after stocking up at Costco, drove here for lunch before checking into our hotel. We ordered the loco moco, first time trying it! And loved it. We also ordered the blackened fish sandwich which was tasty. The service is super sweet. As we drove to the hotel, we saw a truck selling hot malasadas(Portuguese donuts) and got three hot fresh sugary deliciousness.

Tiny place, but a whole lot of love goes into the food. Forget the big resorts for breakfast and check out the Aloha Deli. The friendly service makes you feel like a member of the family. The portions are large and will fill you up for most of the day. Try the Loco Moco!

This place is small and cozy, and serves a great, no-nonsense breakfast on paper plates. They even have a moco loco made with a house made veggy patty — but be careful, the gravy isn’t vegetarian(I asked). Price was right and it was very filling!

We had breakfast here one morning on our trip(looking for a more local spot that wasn’t a part of our hotel) and were pleasantly surprised. The place is TINY but the woman working(owner?) was super nice and the service was excellent. My Fiancé had loco moco which he loved. The gravy was excellent, and simple. I had a breakfast sandwich which was basic and perfect. Would highly recommend to anyone. It is located in a random shopping center area across from an industrial area which seems odd but definitely stop.

Quaint little locals spot for a great Loco Moco breakfast! Very nice people running the place. Pros: loco moco breakfast. Gravy was top notch Cons: coffee was subpar, should offer 100% Kona for a premium. Overall is an excellent value and would go back. $ 30 for 2 people with coffee.

Best food we’ve had so far on our trip to the big island. Going on 6 days now. Breakfast is served all day(yum) but we had super tasty hawaiian lunch plates. I had the pork and cabbage plate with Mac salad, rice, and side salad. My husband had the chicken teriyaki plate. The hostess and server were very friendly. The best service we’ve had so far on the island. Thank you for the amazing lunch!

Bottom Line: The best fish sandwich on the islands from a charming deli with lots of aloha. Don’t leave the Big Island without eating one. 7th stop on my ono grinds tour takes us back to Kawaihae in search of the ultimate fish sandwich. Based on reviews and recommendations, we decided on the Aloha Deli. I have had some awesome fish sandwiches on the islands and we always eat at least one on every trip. The Aloha Deli is a charming restaurant with ample seating and very clean. Loved the surfing pictures and collectibles. Our waitress promptly took our orders and our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. It’s a two woman operation and they are great with lots of aloha. The fish of the day was ono(AKA wahoo) and I was really interested to see how they would prepare it. We chose the lemon butter preparation instead of the basil pesto per the waitress recommendation. The sandwich and mac salad were $ 10.75, which seemed reasonable. When the waitress brought the sandwich out, it didn’t look like anything special until I cut it in half since my wife and I had split the sandwich and a salad. There was a pretty sizable amount of fish, maybe ¾″ thick and it looked like it wasn’t one piece of fish like the usual fish sandwich but several thin slices stacked like pancakes with lemon butter between the layers. I could be wrong because after the first bite, it was sooooo good, I inhaled it and so did my wife before I could take a closer look. It was so good we couldn’t stop laughing, OMG so good. Ha ha OMG so good ha ha. The ono was super fresh, definitely less than 3 days from catch to table. The lemon butter was perfect, added a little richness and flavor without overpowering the fish. Ono can get a little dry and the butter kept it so moist. For some, this preparation may seem bland or boring, but if you love fish and it is really fresh, less is more. Let the fish shine. If you just kind of like fish, get the basil pesto. If you don’t like fish, get a burger or grilled cheese sandwich, they have something for everybody. My wife and I have never had a better fish sandwich, it was no ka oi! This place has it all, charm, cleanliness, great food, reasonable prices and lot’s of aloha. Don’t stress on the paper plates or plastic utensils, it’s just 2 people doing everything. It was our favorite place on the Big Island this trip. Don’t leave the Big Island without eating here at least once. Seriously. Update 1÷20÷16: We ate here again on our way to the airport. Had to get one last ono sandwich before heading home. It was great again and the french fries are awesome. Better than the mac salad. Tip: They are not open on weekends. It’s better to dine in here instead of taking out because it is part of the aloha experience. It’s kid friendly too.

My review is for the shaved ice only — I wish we had eaten breakfast here after looking at their menu, but we just went for ice cream and shave ice. Tropical Dreams ice cream served here — it’s a must try! I had the lychee-lilloki shaved ice and it was heavenly! Cute little mom and pop place — give it a try!

loved the veggie patty loco moco! the patty itself is really flavorful! we were looking for a place to eat outside of the overpriced resorts, and this delivered. they have all kinds of omelettes, etc. but dont pay attention to the pictures on the menu. they are randomly placed and aren’t even pictures of their menu items. amy BF said his cheese omelette had way too much cheese so he couldn’t eat it, but i blame him for not speaking up: P

Awesome food and great friendly service. We went here two times for breakfast because the food was so good. The prices are also awesome and they have good selections of island food. This is the type of place to eat at on the big island.

Nice little oceanside café. I ordered the Big Kahuna, it was my first time having somewhat local Hawaiian food and it was AWESOME. A bed of white rice topped with my choice of two meats(beef patty and ham) three eggs and some seriously tasty gravy. I would eat anything with that gravy on it! Both indoor and outdoor seating. We are staying at the Fairmont Orchid and had breakfast here on our way to the Pololu Valley Lookout. Would definitely recommend.

This is the best breakfast place in all of North Kohala. And you can have breakfast until closing time –3:00 pm. It is one of the few breakfast places in North Kohala that has a grill so you can have a truly cooked egg instead of microwave like so many places in North Kohala. The owners and waitstaff are lovely.

Blackened Ono plate lunch with macaroni salad was fantastic! The owner is super nice and the service was quick. Got a nice little table outside. Parking was easy too. Also the chai latte rocks!

We stumbled upon this place by accident. What a gem this was. OMG this was so ONO(good). Very delicious. Very small place and I promise you will not be disappointed. We had the blackened fresh catch and soooo good. When I come back to Big Island I will make sure I come back.

Great breakfast/lunch place if you don’t want to pay the high prices at the hotels. This is only about 2 miles from the Mauna Kea hotel and half the price. Good hearty breakfast, nothing fancy but good food! They also have great shaved ice!

It was just ok… the beef in the loco moco was kinda bland, it needed more seasoning. I’d suggest driving 15 minutes more and visit Hawaiian Style Café… that place had the best breakfast

A tiny hole in the wall with delicious food. I had fish tacos for breakfast(she said anything on the menu, so I ordered the lunch special.) Very tasty. Good, inexpensive, fresh food. Nothing«fast» about it, but that was fine with me. I hear the ice cream is excellent too but didn’t want it for breakfast.

Perfectly passable but overly liquidy shave ice. We tried the coco-nutty, which combines coconut, pineapple shave ice and coconut ice cream and is perfectly sized to share between two. We only tried the shave ice but they also do sandwiches and some local food. A fine choice if you’re nearby but not worth making a special trip.
