Inconsistent flavors. I can go to spoonful and order the same thing and literally it taste different every time I go! Majority of the food I taste a lot of sugar, very sweet.

Great Thai place. I am glad we tried Spoonful Café while visiting Hilo. Their strawberry drink with tapioca was good and refreshing. A little on the pricey side, but worth every penny.

My family and I stopped in here after a day at the volcano. We were starving and didn’t want to drive all the way into Hilo. We found this place and stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner around 4:30pm. It’s a nondescript location behind a gas station but the food hit the spot. The family got: — chicken katsu — Korean chicken — pad Thai — pineapple fried rice — green curry — pineapple curry — lychee bubble tea I have to say I was a little skeptical given the location but the food was really good. The menu is small and they don’t have some of the usual Thai options(like my go-to pad kee mao) but what they do have is really well-prepared. My green curry was delicious with the perfect amount of spice. My boyfriend ate ALL of his pineapple curry(if you see the portions you’ll know this is a feat) and my sister declared the pineapple fried rice the best she’s ever had. A delightful surprise and just what we needed at the end of a long day. Wishing this small family-owned joint lots of success!

This is a regular rendezvous spot for our immediate and extended family. We each have our favorite dishes. A few favorites… The shrimp pad thai is top notch! The red curry is explosive! There’s a little bit of heat in this dish so if you like things a little spicy, this is one dish you want to try. This coconut milk based perfection is cooked to the consistency of a bisque. The bamboo gives it a very nice crunch and the eggplant is never overdone. The chop steak is pretty standard with flavorful gravy similar to a loco moco which our kids love. The yellow curry is also a winner! Great taste with generous amounts of potato and chicken. *My husbands first choice* The only thing I don’t care for on the menu is the pineapple fried rice. The presentation was excellent & the flavor was ok but the consistence was very pasty probably because it was cooked with hot rice instead of cold rice. The restaurant is clean and the staff is pleasant. We’ve never had a bad experience here.

Pad Thai check! Boneless Korean Chicken check! Chicken Katsu check! They are not very quick here but the food is very good, it’s inexpensive, portions are large and the servers were very nice.

Spoonful Café used to be one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Hilo when it was located in the mall. I tried their new location today. Great experience ! Great new location, friendly service, and free wifi. Noticed that it was a busy take-out place as well. Menu consists of Local dishes but mostly Thai food. My faves — green curry(very creamy), summer rolls and chicken pad Thai. Rating them with one less star because sticky rice wasn’t ready as promised. Will try their local dishes –next time!

Pumpkin curry: Must try… so delicious Pad Thai w/chicken : Cashew chicken& veggies: The food is pretty pricey, but very good! Pumpkin curry and pad thai is always a great combo And the cashew chicken added fresh veggies to the meal.

It’s becoming a every Thursday night dinner habit to get my chicken pineapple curry and my son gets there chicken sate or as he likes to call it chicken on a stick. We both love there peanut sauce. Great addition to Keaau.

Spoonful café was the best Thai ever! The waitress was the cook. She provided amazing portions, was sooo congenial. Stayed open late to accommodate us and the food truly was the best Thai ee have ever eaten. Do not be confused by the Unilocal directions. Go to the shopping center to your left. You will NOT be disappointed!

I enjoy this place. Been eating here when they were at the mall and now in Keaau. The menu is not very big but the food is prepared w/quality. It’s your typical local style food joint so dont expect fancy service or décor. All the dishes are solid and I am a fan of ANY of their fried rice. Their chili oil condiment sauce is addicting. Deliciously crispy deep fried hot peppers steeped in oil. I could bathe myself in that stuff…

My friend and I ate here for the first and probably the last time. There was only one person working when we got there. We were the first guests and thank goodness because it took 30 minutes to get our food and another 30 minutes to get our check and receipt because their cc machine wasn’t working. Other diners came in but after no one came to greet or service them, they all left. Food was okay but definitely over priced for the location in keaau, portion size, and quality. The bathroom wasn’t stocked with soap or towels either. The reason we even gave them a star is the restaurant was nice and staff was friendly. I don’t know how this establishment received such high marks in the past because our experience was totally different. I’m writing this review to warn others so that they won’t be disappointed as we were. Jus keeping it real. We hope the owners take this review to heart and make some changes before they go out of business.

I don’t know what they put in the food here, but I’m skeptical that it’s legal. Some of the best, if not THE best, Thai food this well-traveled mouth has ever tasted. Pumpkin curry: I practically licked the plate clean. The boneless Korean chicken was also finger-lickin’ good. Yummy potato salad, too.

OMG! $ 14.00 for an order of fried rice($ 18.00 if you want shrimp)? Really? This is Keaau, not New York! We stopped for lunch and we were the only people there. Not surprising though considering the high prices. Nothing was under $ 10.00 a plate(maybe a few appetizers), and food was mediocre at best. I had the Chicken Katsu, which was mostly breading and tough. Really, a few strips of overcooked chicken, 2 scoops of white rice and a small portion of potato salad for $ 11.00?

I am a Thai food fanatic and this is hands down the best I have tried to date! The owner/cook is such a sweetheart with a clear talent when it comes to serving delicious food. The staff is friendly and warm and offer fantastic service! If you are in the mood for soup if you’re under the weather, it’s cold outside, or just because try the Tom Yum. Packed with unforgettable flavor! Not to mention is very good for you! Haven’t had a bad meal, definitely worth the visit :)

I finally got a chance to stop in to this new location. This restaurant used to be in the mall, and still have a quick counter there. I stopped on my way home from Hilo. There aren’t many food choices in Kea’au, but Spoonful Café is a nice food option. We were seated quickly, ordered pad thai and peanut sauce. We were the only customers in the seating area, which had a pleasant ambiance. Although, the Thai Pop music was fun, the tv was a little distracting. Our food was served quickly, and had a nice presentation. Chili flakes and Siracha livened up the dish greatly for me, and partner enjoyed the taste. I enjoyed the visit. Pricing was really affordable, and the dish was large enough to feed two people. Total dinner charge $ 10, were both stuffed. I can see returning. I might try a curry next time.
