Order the Blackened Ono. It’s the best fish sandwich I’ve ever had. The shop has a great vibe, respectable drink selection and their own ketchup. Bottom line: if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by.

Rebel Kitchen is fantastic! Shrimp & bacon sandwich with garlic pepperoni fries… always a favorite. One of the best Mom & Pop restaurants on the island.

Meh… The burger was not of the quality that we have come to expect from other establishment’s local grass fed beef. It was dry and a bit flavorless, as if it had been a frozen patty. The cheesesteak was a bit lackluster too. Their homemade catsup was interesting, but no replacement for what Americans have come to know as catsup. For the price, I expect better.

Checked this place out our last day in Kona. Great food. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had the philly. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Was looking for some fairly priced food and salad/soup. I found this place that looked good but was 7.1 miles away from our hotel. The other closer options all seemed more expensive. We went and at 7:10 pm the restaurant was empty but the waitress/cashier was super friendly and welcomed us in. Sandwiches and salads are around 10.50−12.95. You can get cheaper fare with the soup of the day(comes with bread), a side salad(5.75), and fries/fruit. There is also free water that is room temperature. To the background of some interesting upbeat instrumental music, I shared an eggplant melt and grilled veggie salad with my boyfriend. I loved the salad because the lettuce was all chopped, and I’m a fan of chopped salad. The pink vinaigrette was also delicious in combination with the tomatoes, corn, feta. The grilled eggplant melt had great bread and included the same chopped lettuce, grilled eggplant and bell pepper, and cheese which was nice and gooey. The sandwich comes with fruit or potato salad. Substituting fries would be an extra charge. They also make their own ketchup and hot sauce. The hot sauce is a mix of kona coffee, Hawaiian chili peppers, and various vegetables. I got a bottle for 5.99…It’ll be great on my tacos back home. The ketchup is not as salty as Heinz for sure and is more pulpy.

Wow, Rebel kitchen is fabulous. I had the blackened ono fish sandwich with Cajun potato salad. This place makes everything from scratch. Even the ketchup is home made. Don’t miss this place if your in the area. It’s casual counter service with nice people.

We arrived during happy hour which we did not know but the very nice friendly woman behind the counter informed us! Wow what a great local find! My family ate 3 – 4 happy hour recommendations all great! Worth the 10 minute drive from the hotel I saved $ 100 and better food win win

Stopped in for lunch. Ordered the pepperoni bruschetta sandwich. Comes with side of potato salad or fruit. I took the salad. Sandwich was toasted and had a mix of soft and crusted pepperoni pieces which made the texture good. The bruschetta had olive oil, garlic, tomatoes and olives. All held together with melted mozzarella. Overall, the sandwich was a bit salty. I can’t knock it since one has to consider what they ordered, a pepperoni sandwich which was loaded by the way with pepperoni. So when you toast this thing, the salt and grease will extract from the meat as if it were a pizza. If you like pepperoni, skip it. Try something different. You won’t miss the pepperoni. The potato salad is mustard based. Not you basic loaded with mayo and egg salad. Different but good since I’m not a fan of mayo. Had a hint of curry which raised one of my eyebrows. I think if I were to return, I would go for the Philly cheese steak with a side of fries with the Kona Ketchup. Other items on the menu worth trying would be the jambalaya or jerk chicken sandwich which seems popular. Place seems well kept and clean.

I love this kind of local diner/kitchen that was plentiful across the country 50 years ago but has been replaced by fast food chains that are all the same. I have eaten here four times and will go back The food is very good and INTERESTING… not like you would get at a resort. The outside is painted bright red –a little scary, but its rural Hawaii. French fries were perfect –crispy outside, cooked outside(amazing how few places get this right). I have had the pulled pork(lau lau), jambalaya, and hamburger. All were very good. Bun on the burger seemed home made and was a little dry but that seems to be the case with all bread in Hawaii. Ice tea was fresh brewed and the wahine kept coming by to refill it. Homemade ketchup is interesting buy too bland for my tastes. Only negative is that the restroom is outside and up the hill in the park. That said, Rebel Kitchen is clean.

We’ve been in Kona for one month, and started to feel disheartened that there were so few good restaurants. Using Unilocal,we found Rebel Kitchen, and we’re glad we found it. Clean casual restaurant, welcoming, fast service, and most importantly, excellent food. We both ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich. It was spicy just like we love it. We plan to go back and try some of their other menu items, such as Jambalaya, Thai Steak Salad, Veggie Salad, etc.

After a day of sightseeing, we decided to have an early dinner at the Rebel Kitchen. My wife had the Jamaican chicken sandwich and I had the cheesesteak sandwich. Both sandwiches were very good. We shared an order of garlic pepperoni fries. Service was excellent.

4.5 really and I don’t take that lightly. Hawaii has many great things to eat spanning from traditional recipes, to modern takes on even things like raw fish. Rebel Kitchen is a bit of a deviant in that regard,. they just seem to do thier own thing but in such a way I can hardly compare it. Its about HOW they do it,. the ultra complex flavours that just suggest someone«designed» the food here. They have a signature mustard potatoe salad that is good, but the Ono sandwich is stellar but the highlight was a thai salad with beef,. I didn’t think I was gong to love it but wow. Everything her is so fresh and healthy. Big Kudos and I also love the property inside and out,. a littel yard with picnic tables for outside eating makes it a highlight of our trip.

Fresh, fun food! This is a great stop for families, singles, and couples. It is one of my favorite types of restaurants that focuses on local ingredients owned by local people offering wonderful food in a casual environment. Best salad I have ever had on the Big Island. Everything is pre-chopped to the perfect size, making it easy to eat and well balanced. Pulled pork sandwich had a sweet spicy sauce on a ciabatta that kept me coming back bite after bite! The winner for me was the cheese steak sandwich. The onions are cooked in soy sauce, giving this traditional sandwich a nice island flair. The only negative I had was on the Chicken Jerk Sandwich, the sauce was just not doing it for me though it was definitely not bad. Just not my thing! Housemade Ketchup is a must try here. Unfortunately, the fries are delicious without it, so you might forget to give it a try. You have NEVER tried a ketchup like the Kona Ketchup they make here. It is so much more flavorful, a tinge more sweet but herby, than your typical ketchup. You can buy some as well as the hot sauce to take home. Notes: Accessible, one level, street parking or parking lot across the street, bathroom up the hill but available, order at the counter, outdoor seating.

This place is pretty f — –g awesome. We were driving back to Kona from the national park and were really struggling on a late evening before Thanksgiving to find something that was open, we got so lucky to find this place and find it open! This was probably the best meal I had on my Hawaii trip and I did some good eating. I recommend the blackened Ono sandwich(add avocado) or the jerk chicken sandwich(which has a pretty good kick, be ready). Anyhow if you’re lucky enough to spot this place I would definitely eat here.

Fresh, creative food prepared well. So happy they are now open on weekends. We had the soup special(avocado-steak-veggies), side salad, grilled cheese sandwich, and garlic fries. Everything was delicious. The house-made hot sauce and ketchup were a surprise bonus. Ono! Staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We’ll be back soon.

This is one of the only places where I wanted to go back and eat more food when I visited the big island. Below are some of the things I enjoyed: Home made curry ketchup. Pepperoni fries are Garlic fries with pepperoni chips Potatoes salad was good and I don’t normally like potato salad Blackened ono was fresh and flavorful, I really enjoyed eatint it. Lilikoi cheesecake had macadamia nuts and coconut in the crust. The filling had a nice tang to contrast with the creaminess of the cheesecake.
