This is what all bars should strive to be. It’s dark inside regardless of time, beer is cold & cheap and the barmaid was exceptionally welcoming. My friend and I were staying in town for a couple of days and drove past the PGL; I immediate locked up the brakes when I saw the warm neon glow marking the portal into bar paradise. Our first round of ice cold brew plus tip was easily covered with a $ 5 bill. The beer is so cheap that it makes you feel like you’re about to be scammed or forced to purchase a timeshare. We did not uncover such a scam and have to question how a bar with such low rates can visibly thrive as PGL has for so many illustrious years. It’s possible that the barmaid is secretly wealthy and subsidies the beer prices with her own vast wealth to attract customers and then charm them with her hospitality and wit in order to win friends. I somehow doubt it, but nonetheless we were charmed. If you’re traveling through the middle of the country, do you self a favor and experience perfection. There are bars that are worth a stop, there are bars worth a detour; Palm Garden Lounge is worth a journey.

A few of my favorite fancy dives include: the Oak Room at the Plaza in New York, The Breakers in Palm Beach, the Hemingway bar in the Ritz in Paris… So maybe Palm Garden is Kearney’s answer? It has the snazzy name. There IS a dress code – t-shirts(with or without sleeves), dungarees, baseball cap is optional. Git-R-done. It is a fun place to shoot some pool or maybe play some«cricket» darts, and the men’s pisser doesn’t smell like piss at all.
