I’ve heard a lot of rant and rave about this place and I finally gave in. To my dismay it didn’t live up to the hype. The waiter recommended the hot beef sandwich. As we wait I hear the familiar sound of a microwave beeping. «Order UP», I hear. My dish arrives. The gravy is lumpy and reminds me of warmed up Thanksgiving leftovers. Beef was dry as a bone. I don’t understand how this place is still in business. Maybe it was an «off» day.

I’ve eaten at Tex’s several times over the years, and my parents loved it when they lived in the area(my dad was a born-and-bred Nebraska farmer). I really appreciate that it’s a small local eatery, and it’s the real deal with no put-ons. The food is just OK(not the greatest sausage gravy), the service might be a bit absent-minded(had to ask twice for a coffee cup after the carafe arrived), and your glassware probably won’t match, but if you care about that sort of thing, then it’s not for you. We ate there only once this trip to see if there was better fare. However, if you are visiting from out-of-town you should definitely check it out to get a real feel for where you are.

Tex’s is one of the last of dying breed. The small corner café with all homemade food, daily specials with dessert included. Homemade at Tex’s means they made it there, not defrosted and deep fried there. Great breakfast, homemade fried chicken(come early as gone quick on Thursdays) Chicken Fried Steak, hamburgers etc Just good ol’ homemade eatin
