A place that gives my dog water and shows her tons of love deserves all the stars in the world. In addition to being dog friendly, Stewarts deserves five stars for lots of other reasons. For starters, this place will serve you at your car! If the weather is nice, you can opt for outdoor seating. Either way, the service is friendly. They have a menu full of unhealthy, but yummy things to eat. I really like their cheesesteak, fries, and vanilla milkshake. However, I feel like anything on this menu is fair game. The cheesesteak is full of meat, onions, peppers, and cheese. I throw a few of my fries in for an added treat. The fries are thick and perfectly crisp. And, the shake, well, it’s a shake. You can upgrade to a shake instead of a soda if you so desire. While I wouldn’t advise going to Stewart’s on a daily basis, it’s definitely worth an occasional visit.

I don’t snub fast food. I’m a foodie and like to try different cuisines, but I’m not above hitting up good old White Castle when I got«The Crave.» In fact, I see fast food as having its own standards and evaluation criteria. I mean, you know when you’ve had good fast food and you know when you haven’t, right? One of my favorite fast food spots is a little gem in Kearny, New Jersey — Stewart’s Drive-in. This Stewart’s on Passaic Avenue is great and here’s why — – It’s one of the few places with real carhops. They aren’t on roller skates like in the 50s, but service still has a retro and charming and pretty cool. Also, if you like eating in your car, this is your place to go :) – If you don’t want to eat in your car, then there is outdoor seating with umbrellas where you can sit. – You have a wide selection of classic fast food selections(burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, fries, etc.) and other items like(Italian hot dogs and pierogies). They all hit the grease spot. – Obviously, the root beer. They also have other soft drinks. Their cup sizes are ridiculously oversized, but in a good way. – It’s a great summer time spot to grab quick munchies. It’s only open during half of the year(from late spring until mid-fall). Note — I go gaga for nostalgia and Americana, so perhaps I’m a bit biased in this review, but Stewart’s is one of my favorite places in the area. It’s unique and different and has personality… and I can get my onion rings on. Stewart’s Drive-in — Can’t beat it!

Yesterday I went to eat at Stewart’s Drive-In fast food place for the first time yesterday. And let me tell you the food taste so good! I got some italian sausages and peppers sandwich w/cook onions and potatoes it comes with fries also. My mom ordered italian hot dog with fries. And my brother ordered philly chesse stake with fries also as well. The food taste kinda good, but after that that food made me so full. My mom says it’s knida reminds her of Sonic! Also it also has«cash-only»

Was in there area and my wife wanted to stop in since she grew up going to Stewart’s. We just grabbed some Pierogi’s to go and they were way better than I expected. There are not many open air drive in type restaurants around any more and I was glad I had the chance to stop in.

I was craving burgers and this was one of the places that showed up when I googled it. I am so glad I found this place! I ended up ordering a italian sausage sandwhich with fries. The italian sausage had potatoes in it, which is something I didnt expect. It filled me up and I couldn’t even finish my fries. My boyfriend ordered a Philly cheese steak with onion rings. The onion rings were delicious! I was just a bit disappointed they didnt have any of the dessert that was on the menu. I was really looking forward to it after my meal. But I would still come back for a decent burger.

The French fries and cream sodas are great. Everything else is just average. Good food but nothing special.

Need some grease and juicy burgers in ya life? How about an amazing root beer float? How about you need to unleash the inner fat kid in you? COME here!!! This is why we do and bring ya monies with you too… Your card is no good here! About a month ago mi lady and I were looking for lovely juicy burgers that we could enjoy with outside seating. We both ordered bacon cheese burgers and root beer floats, a side of fries and choose to dine in inside or carside… Yes folks they also serve you from the comfort of your your car! Anywho… Our inner fat kids were unleashed and we devoured our meals. We don’t eat greasy food often so this heavenly cheat meal did well! We will return… Hey we might go again soon lol. The dining experience is nostalgic to me and it’s a cool spot to grab a quick unhealthy bite and enjoy outside. Enjoy folks!

Great place for burgers, dogs and of course Root Beer Floats! Great service, love that you can choose to eat in your car or sit at the tables. Yeah, most of the other stuff on the menu is all deep fried, but I personally never bother with anything else. The California Burger is a must! I just went recently and saw a for sale sign :(This is so sad, definitely a landmark in Kearny, sad to see it go. Hoping someone will buy it and keep the business as is.

Love, Love, Love one more time… Love this place. It’s my new go-to place when I need to pick up a quick bite. Forget fast food drive thrus. You pull into Stewarts parking lot and a server brings you a menu. When you are ready to order you put your headlights on. You can take your order to go, eat at a table, or they bring a tray that hooks onto your window! That’s how I roll. The food is fresh, hot, delicious, and the portions are huge. Desserts are awesome too.

I’m not entirely sure what month they open but they’re open until the week before Thanksgiving, which is great for when you want a banging root beer float. They use Sabrett hot dogs(both all beef and a beef/pork combo which apparently was the original) which happen to be my mother’s favorite… But not mine. I find them to be super salty, but to each her own. Anyway, go for a root beer float and not much else. You can get better hot dogs and burgers elsewhere.(PS. Their root beer floats are HUGE.)

Don’t be on a diet when you go here, the fare is fries/onion rings/burgers, etc. But what’s wrong with that? Tasty too. I love their curbside service, for when you don’t feel like sitting out in the open at a table/weather’s cooler. The root beer brings me back everytime. I was a little disappointed that my root beer on this visit didn’t come in one of their typical glass mugs, I’m not sure if they’ve changed that perk, but if they have, it’s unfortunate. The music, though, brings me back. I was listening to old 80’s and 70’s tunes I hadn’t heard in years. Talk about atmosphere.

The food is a typical burger/hot dog joint. I go once in a blue moon, today I went after reading of their«boardwalk fare» review in the local paper. It touted many flavors of Italian ices, ice cream, blizzards, zeppoles, slushies etc. So with mouth watering and a craving to try these great items I took my son there and we sampled it. I have to say I was VERY disappointed! I bought 2 blizzards one with chocolate ice cream and Oreos, the other vanilla with Oreos. What I got was not what I expected, and honestly would prefer the McDonald’s mcflurry. The ice cream was subpar, nothing really to write home about, the consistency was like liquid. They asked me if a wanted a straw and I was about to say no, until I moved the cup and the«blizzard» moved around like it was a watery shake. I commented that it was less thick than a shake and told that’s how it’s supposed to be. Maybe it’s me, but when you post an item that everyone else makes and give it the same name and same mix in choices one would be led to believe it would somewhat be the same. That was really disappointing, it was like melting ice cream and throwing crumbled Oreos on top… I also wanted to try these great Italian ices, cannoli and spumoni. The cannoli was just ok, the lyndhurst pastry shop has the best in the area, this wasn’t creamy, it had pieces of what seemed to be the shell of a cannoli crushed up, but no chips, and really not much flavor. The spumoni wasn’t too bad, it had flavor but the only flavor you could really taste is the pistachio, it’s VERY overpowering, in a kind of good way, but it would be nice to taste the other flavors. It tastes good for the first few bites and then after that its a aftertaste of the pistachio you don’t taste the chocolate, or vanilla that you see mixed in. As far as their new desserts go, I don’t think I will be returning for them. Between a watery mixture of ice cream and cookies, and pretty much one flavorless and one overpowering flavored ice, it wasn’t worth the trip or the money I spent on it. So if your dying to try their new desserts, I would skip it and go somewhere else. They should’ve stuck to their root beer floats, now that a great dessert!

Great place to grab some jersey Italian hotdogs! Their onion rings are good too. You gotta get an orange cream soda! Definitely recommend it!

Delicious! But not as cheap as you would hope it would be. I will say that the two for $ 5 root beer float deal they have is awesome, as they’re big and tasty. We’ve had franks in different variations here and always enjoy it. Obviously with outdoor only seating, a summertime experience is a treat and wintertime is presumably take-away only. Highly recommended, and yes, they are the people behind those nice bottled sodas.

So a couple weeks ago at work we decided to head out for some dogs… sometimes your cravings need to be dealt with immediately. One of my co-workers suggested Stewart’s and I figured«how can this be a bad thing?». I mean dogs, pierogies, onion rings and a Stewart’s Root Beer float. Well, they delivered. My cheese dog and chili cheese dog were sheer perfection. The fried pierogies were very tasty, though I wasn’t expecting them to be fried, I wanted them sautéed with onions… dummy, don’t assume-next time ask. Onion rings were a little oily, but tasty-real onion rings, not the crap you get in Burger King and the root beer float… I mean that’s just a sweet sip of heaven. Service was a little slow, but pleasant. They don’t take credit cards, but they do have an ATM…

Okay, nobody goes here for the food. It’s drive-in fare — period, and the only thing that really transcends that rating is the root beer. It’s Stewart’s Root Beer, which is good and all, but you can get it anyplace. Get a root beer float with vanilla ice cream — it’s the one thing on the menu you shouldn’t die without trying at least once, even if you’re a little lactose intolerant. But for me, that orange diamond is synonymous with summer. Sit outside and scarf a chili burger(or dog) with rings, sip a cold root beer in a frosted mug and watch the cars go by. Growing up, my dad could never drive past a Stewart’s without at least suggesting that we stop and have one. Kids love it, and it’s one of those little things you know they’ll remember when they get too old to want to be seen in public with their parents. They have car-hop service, but I’m not a big fan of eating in the car. It’s fun to try when it’s raining and there’s no room left under the awning. The place is run by local teenagers, and the service therefore ranges from all-right to terrible. The food can be spotty sometimes, depending on when you go and the sobriety level of whoever’s on the grill that day. The bathroom is down a scary flight of basement stairs and it’s easy to imagine yourself getting murdered down there. But who cares? It’s a Stewart’s Root Beer Stand!

With fifties style car hop service, this slice of Americana was more of a stroll down memory lane than a culinary tour-de-force. We went here before attending the Kearny fireworks display, grabbed a couple of chili dogs, fries, and root beer. Just what you’d expect from a place like this. It’s been a couple of decades since I’ve been here, and it hasn’t changed much. The dogs were good, as was the chili and the fries. Stewart’s root beer is always good. I missed the frosty mugs, though. Paper cups this time. A fine place to catch a quick bite in the comfort of your car while listening to some tunes.
