We came to this place to try the Thai food because of their high rating on Unilocal.I don’t even know why they have such high rating. The two stars is for the nice little place and their ok services. The food I would probably just give it one star. I am very picky when it comes to Asian food. The food in this place is very blend. We ordered a tom kah soup. Worse tom kah soup I’ve ever had. The didn’t even put lemongrass which is essential for tom kah soup. The soup is so blend with light savory taste to it, not even little spicy to it. Totally different than all of other tom kah soup I have ever try(different in a bad way). We also ordered a pineapple fired rice and curry. Still very blend. The fried rice are so wet, and from my perspective, fried rice should be dry and not to have clumps of rice stick together. The shrimp is totally over cooked, and it’s so shrimp meat is so tough. The curry is also very blend, the chicken is totally over marinate with too much baking soda. Overall, none of the food that we order is good. :(their price is also higher than lots of other Thai restaurant. I wouldn’t care to pay more for good food. But we were totally disappointed. Would not recommend this place at all.

The food was disgusting. The pad Thai tasted like fish. My husband ordered the the vegetables stir fry and they were so over cooked that they disintegrated when we touched them. Also, we ordered the vegetable wraps, BEWARE, they come with shrimp and they didn’t tell us nor was it on the menu.

I am very picky when it comes to Asian restaurants only because I have been extremely fortunate to grow up in Hawaii where all the Asian food establishments are expected to be utterly delicious to please the varied Asian residents and visitors on Oahu. My husband took me and the family to Red Ginger to celebrate my birthday and let me order for everyone since all of our family guests didn’t know what to order. There are no photos on the menu so it’s best to look up(via Unilocal!) pictures of what other Unilocalers recommend if you have no idea what you might like. I ordered Egg Rolls which comes with five per order and a side of sweet chili sauce and Lettuce Wraps for our appetizers. Egg Rolls were crisp and very hot but I really loved the Lettuce Wraps which were awesome because of the combination of a very crisp, cold iceberg lettuce leaf with the minced chicken, bell peppers, onions, & water chestnuts in plum sauce. Our main dishes were Pad Kee Maow(Drunken Noodles) with beef, Pork Fried Rice, Teriyaki Delight, Swimming Prawns, and Sweet & Sour Stir Fry. The Pad Kee Maow wasn’t too spicy(you can order it spicier if you prefer) and I loved this dish! All of our family members said it was just a hint of spicyness except our three year old who said her mouth was burning. The noodles were just like Chinese Chow Funn noodles, which is a wide, chewy white rice noodle and so good with the beef, bell peppers, onions, green beans and chili paste. I really liked their Pork Fried Rice which was made with thin slices of very tender white pork. We ordered a second plate because the kids demanded more! The kids also loved the Teriyaki Delight which was chicken on a bed of steamed veggies covered with a sweet teriyaki sauce. The Swimming Prawns were a bit unusual; Grilled jumbo prawns, fresh avocado, & steamed veggies, Topped with housemade peanut sauce. The combo of flavors were a bit too creamy for me but everyone else raved about it and absolutely loved the creamy peanut sauce atop each grilled prawn bedded on a slice of fresh avocado. Sweet Sour Stir Fry was good and the kids loved it too. I have plans to return to Red Ginger without the kids because I saw some very authentic Thai dishes that I must try next time I am there such as Tom Yum Soup(I will order«very spicy»!), Papaya Salad, and Pad Thai. I loved the décor and intimate set up of this restaurant. Thank you to the very hospitable and courteous owner, Amanda, who came out to introduce herself. She made our meal very enjoyable and we will be back as soon as I can get a babysitter for these non-spicy food eating kids.

A very friendly hostess seated us in a lovely dining room with beautiful hand crafted Thai artwork decorating the walls. A few nice paintings of red ginger added to the atmosphere. After ordering we were immediately rewarded with a small salad with a rice wine vinagrette. The appetizer arrived next. Fried bean curd with a sweet and sour vinegar dip. Perfectly golden brown, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We had the Cajun Asperagus and the Avocado Curry which was the days chef special. Both had perfectly cooked vegatables. The asparagus was still bright green, not crunchy, but not overcooked either. Both had tender, sweet shrimp and thinly sliced chicken. The cajun asparagus had a nice bite to it. I felt the curry was a bit mild, but my tastes run to a hotness that makes you tear up a bit. My sister likes spicy, but not too hot food and found the heat level perfect. Our waiter was polite without hovering and served us quickly and with a smile. Overall a great experience.

Our favorite Thai place. The Thai ice tea is wonderful and so is their pad Thai! It’s the best we’ve had in Salem area!

1st time there with friends who recommended it. Good job. Service pleasant, presentation nice, food great. Nice assortment, lettuce wraps nice(why do all restaurants serve apps for 4, cant they add 1 wrap if there are 5 and charge for it?). And we could actually hear each other during dinner. Very nice experience, will be back.

We were in Salem on business from Los Angeles and we stopped here because we read the reviews on Unilocal.I eat Thai food about once every two weeks and I can say this place is as good as any of my favorites. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I had the basil stir fry with chicken and my buddy had the eggplant delight with shrimp. We also ordered Pad Thai noodle with chicken and fried rice. Everything was great! They had a party of 20 upstairs and 4 tables downstairs where we ate. There was only one cook and it was incredible how fast she got all the food out. I will definitely be coming back my next time I come through Salem, OR.

I absolutely love thai food and I recently moved to Salem and so far this place has the best food all the way around. Their Tom Kah Gai soup is to die for!!! Of course, their pad thai is very good and most of their curries are delicious. The spring rolls and fried rolls as an appetizer are very yummy as well.

This is my 2nd time to Red Ginger. This time I was flying solo. I was pleasantly greeted by a gentleman server & since it was just after 5p(start of their dinner service) I had nearly the whole restaurant to myself(there were a few«to-go» people). I ordered the Salad Rolls, Thai Iced Tea & Drunken Noodles w/Chicken. The Salad Rolls were very fresh & refreshing. The sauce that came w/them had a slight spice kick which was a nice surprise(as I’m used to eating them w/peanut sauce). My Thai Iced Tea was the perfect amount of sweet & I enjoyed it. This brings me to the Drunken Noodles. It was a good portion, could’ve shared if needed. The smell as the plate was set down was a little off putting but they had an overall good taste & I enjoyed eating them. Overall Red Ginger has an intimate atmosphere, good décor & great service. Their food is delicious, there could be a few improvements here & there in food but so does any restaurant. I would return to this restaurant for a 3rd visit.

Place was nice, very small and we were the only guest the whole time we were there. Ordered pad Thai, was so disappointed, it had a very strong vinegar taste, I could only eat two bite. Husband ordered drunken noodles and they had a horrible smell to them, also tasted awful. The yellow curry was ok. So very disappointed with the food, I don’t really think it was cooked badly, maybe just not the way we prefer our Thai food. The man who seated us was very nice. Will not be returning though

Tried this place some time back Nice clean looking restaurant with pleasant staff. We tried the house soup which was complimentary. Very tasty Avocado puffs were great We ordered the green curry which was good but I have had better. Still provides a nice option for Asian fusion in this area

The restaurant was beautiful and the staff was helpful and attentive. Thus, the two stars. Unfortunately, I don’t go to a restaurant to enjoy décor or interact with staff. I go for the food. And this food was terrible. I had the Pad Thai and it was just awful. Sweet was the only way to describe the sauce and, in a disturbing turn, the chicken smelled and tasted like shrimp. It was very disconcerting. My aunt got the curry and the vegetables were very inconsistently cooked. They were either total mush or underdone. It just tasted… bland? Very one note and that one note wasn’t a particularly nice one. I will not ever be returning here.

Wonderful food! The owner of the place is so pleasant and warm. We have been eating here frequently because of both the food and the service. There seems to be a new(?) male server during dinner time. We have been served by him twice. We have been having the ABSOLUTEWORST experience with this server. He made me not want to eat at the restaurant both times I was served by him. He presented us with a complementary salad with a sarcastic comment how of course the salad was not Thai but the older customers«love it». I thought the comment was unnecessary. With our meal we were presented with a «large» bowl of rice to share among three people with dishes that came with rice… 5 inch diameter bowl of rice for three sauce dishes and no other starch. I could probably eat the entire bowl myself. We waited patiently as he chatted with some customers it seemed like he knew personally but we couldn’t eat because we had finished our first bowl of rice and needed more to continue eating our food! He then proceeded to charge us for the extra rice we requested without letting us know about the extra charge on the rice. At checkout, we inquired about the rice and he explained that rice costs money and that the extra rice needed to be paid for. To an extent this is understandable if advertised that extra rice costs more and if the rice given with the meal was an appropriate amount for the dish. Neither was the case. He repeated the reasoning for this charge but then stated«but you dont have to pay for it.» When he was taking our payment, he charged us for the rice… we were willing to pay for the rice if it is advertised and clearly stated, not placed on our bill«secretly» and then were told that we dont have to pay for it and then charged for the rice we were just told we did not have to pay for. All this text and ranting over rice! I understand that rice costs money… DUH! This experience would have went better if he had handled the situation better. I will NOT be returning or bringing friends/family here if I find that he will be serving. I was SOEMBARRASSED and ASHAMED at the experience my out of town friends AND family had while eating here. Take-out from now on… maybe.

Salem/Keizer, Oregon is almost an Oriental food desert. There are plenty of Oriental restaurants, just darn few that you’d eat in more than once. Red Ginger is one of the few good ones. They have a pleasing variety from which to choose, including their specialties. Then there are daily specials. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere — cloth table clothes and rolled, upright red napkins. A pleasing atmosphere in which to eat. Our waiter was friendly and engaging, striking a nice balance of friendliness and wait-desired attentiveness. I opted for an Avocado, Yellow Curry with chicken and shrimp. Yes, avocado. My spouse had Swimming Prawns — also with avocado, in a peanut sauce. Her dish was not spicy, other than a little heat in the peanut sauce. It was listed with vegetables. We thought they were part of the prepared dish, but were served as steamed vegetables, as you would in an American restaurant. We thought this a little quirky but not bad. Her plate was beautifully presented. The Curry was the better of the two dishes. It had more substance. Avocado, shrimp, chicken, peas, basil, bamboo shoots in the curry. I’m particularly looking forward to the left-overs, when all ingredients have a little more time to marry. The lettuce wraps/spring rolls were fresh and refreshing with a nice, slightly edged sauce to give it balance. Sorry to be so wordy, but wanted to give a good flavor to the place. Well worth a try and better than almost all the other Asian restaurants in the area.

I use Pad Kee Mao as my litmus test for new Thai restaurants — Red Ginger passed with Flying colors! YUM! I will definitely be back. *Add Avocado to the Drunken Noodles — it’s incredible !!

Don’t let the outside fool you! I’ve lived in Keizer for several years, and always drove by, thinking it was just another Chinese restaurant. I was wrong!!! Who knew that Keizer had such an amazing Thai restaurant! I’ve been here twice now, and both times, the food was amazing! They have perfectly blended flavors, a knowledgable staff to help in your ordering, fresh ingredients, and a wonderfully romantic, intimate setting. This is a great place for a romantic night out. My new favorite eating place!
