I have been to many thrift stores across the country and so far it’s been a struggle finding one during my stay in Texas. Bearly Used is a smaller thrift store than say, Goodwill, but their selection and prices are decent. In their housewares section, they mostly have dish sets among a few knick-knacks. They had several furniture pieces that were outdated, worn, and/or broken but held«spendy» price tag for a thrift store. For example: a small side table was priced at $ 129, which confused me considering the prices of most of their other items were inexpensive. I would prize this thrift store on their clothing section. Most of the clothing was in good condition, fairly«new» in a fashion sense, and the average price of each article being $ 2.99. My experience with the customer service could have been a bit better, although I did make check-out a bit more complicated than it needed to be. My total upon check-out was just under forty dollars and I decided to use a $ 25 visa gift card which the cashier had no trouble running. Immediately after printing the sign receipt, she realized that it would have been easier for her to accept cash first, although I did not have any intention of paying cash on the total transaction. She had trouble bringing up the remaining total and started to look a bit flustered. I apologized for causing any difficulty and receive a condescending reply that, «it’s okay.» After a few seconds of fiddling with the cash register, she brings up the remaining balance and informs me that I need to pay the rest in cash(which I fortunately came to this tore with my Mother and she had some cash on her). I called my Mom to come in to the store and as she walks to the door, the cashier tells me I can pay with credit. Although my experience with the cashier was less than pleasant, I was impressed most of their selection and will return.

I found Bearly Used completely by accident after leaving its next door neighbor of Upscale Resale. My expectations at that point were low, thus leading to my curiosity in seeing what was behind door #2 in my search for consignment deals. First impression was a good one: ice cold air conditioning, outgoing and friendly customer service, and quite a bit of selections when it came down to home furnishings, sports memorabilia, and women’s/children’s clothing. There were various nick nacks around the store, from cuisinarts and coffee makers, to $ 1.99 DVDs and portable CD walkman players(yes, they still sell those). There was also a section that had jewelry by the main cash register, yet it wasn’t the fine jewelry type. I also noticed quality bed frames and a couple of bureaus within the home furnishings section as well. I didn’t see a large selection of watches, coins and other items for men, which was slightly disappointing. Nonetheless, the former selections that were aforementioned were quite substantial and priced reasonably. I did notice a front side room and back room where the store was up to its eyeballs in donations, which is a good thing for the consumer. Also, the clerk informed me that the proceeds of Bearly Used goes to children’s clothing, etc. Although I didn’t find what I was quite looking for on this day, its a good thing to see a consignment store that doesn’t give you the impression of being stale and having that eerie mildew smell of merchandise that has sat there since the Clinton administration. Far from it. I’ll certainly return to this location to give it an updated review within the near future.

After going to Haltom Thrift, the Goodwill next door to it on Denton Hwy/377, Thrift Town on Grapevine Hwy, AND Goodwill on Rufe Snow, I ended up back on 377 somehow going the other direction I think yeah well I am new to the area and wanted to see where exactly Rufe Snow would take me, I ended up in Keller and going back down 377. So anyhow I was going around today looking for specific items and all I had was less than $ 2.00 in coins. I was looking for two specific«spiritual» or «inspirational» books. The Haltom Thrift had a copy of one of the books for $ 1.99 and it looked like it had been chewed on by a dog, or a teething baby. The Goodwill Next door, had 2 copies of the same book for a penny more. I wasn’t satisfied. so I kept moving on. Thrift Town was lovely, but they didn’t have either of the books that I wanted and their pricing on books was a little confusing although they seemed to have good deals on clothes. Once again I moved on to the Goodwill on Rufe Snow. Their book situation was just frustrating books scattered everywhere on the shelves, looking through their selection twice I didn’t notice either book there either. And then somehow I made it TO!!! Barely Used! Sorry I had to give you my days journey before I got here. The ladies at the register were very nice and happy to see me. Not that they know me, but they had good customer service. They greeted me with a smile. Did I mention I found BOTH of the books I was looking for there? That’s right I didn’t. Well I did happen to find BOTH of the books I was looking for. Also! They had the best prices of the day. For real. Listen! Or read very carefully =) If you are into books. Like paper back or hard cover not those crazy ebook things. Paper backs are 50 cents and Hard Backs are 75 cents. Total came out to $ 1.35 after tax. Aren’t you glad I kept driving around and searching for the best deal? Well I sure am. Unfortunately I didn’t have any extra money to look around for anything else that catches my eye. I just went directly to the books cashed out then left, but it was a good experience had by all, and I will return very soon.
