I have been going to auctions since the late eighties and never saw equipment sold cheaply as sold at a auction conducted by James G. Murphy in my behalf. I was told by one of their employees that the auction would provide me a sizable sum. I ended up with less than one quarter of it’s value. Some of the machinery sold for less than scrap value. James G. Murphy claims to advertise in the following Their mailing list of up to four thousand interested parties Several trade publications Hundreds of thousands of hits on their internet site The Seattle Times Tacoma News Tribune What happens when you have a garage sale and put up a few signs around the neighborhood? People stop by. Fifty in a day? Sure, easy. Yet only 1.25 percent came to that auction just based on the mailing list. Add the trade publications, internet, Seattle Times, Tacoma News Tribune the auction attracted less than one percent turn out. James G. Murphy missed the auction date by a week. James G. Murphy used more manpower than necessary to the conduct the auction. James G. Murphy used more manpower than necessary to help buyers pick up their purchases. My experience is James G. 10% Buyer’s premium. I’ve bought so many things from here. I built my whole restaurant with equipment from here. Where do you think the used restaurant suppliers get their stuff? The police auction with all the unclaimed seized stuff is my favorite. Don’t be the first bidder ever in an auction they’ll keep dropping the price until somebody makes a bid. Don’t get auction fever and pay more than new retail for a used item.
