Really disappointed in this restaurant. I would have expected more. My salad, despite being listed as having a particular kind of dressing on the menu, did not have any when it came. When I asked if there was dressing, the waitress looked at me like I was crazy and told me that because there was blue cheese on the salad, I don’t get dressing. I asked for a vinaigrette on the side, and 10 minutes later, I still did not have any dressing(the person eating with me was almost done with his meal at this point). When we finally flagged down an employee(the same one who told me she would get the vinaigrette), she told me she would get it. 5 minutes later, she came back to say they didn’t have vinaigrette. They brought an alternative, but only after my dining partner had finished eating. I had to ask for a to go box in order to eat my food and get to where we needed to go on time, despite coming to the restaurant an hour before departure.

Bright spot here is the service. Other than that, not much else going. Girlfriend and I wanted a quiet night in and a simple dinner. Welcomed by a menu that is different than the website and nothing jumped out as great so we went with just desserts. Found out all they had was bread pudding and ice cream(they were out of «death by chocolate»). Avoid.

Light lunch before the Emdymion Krewe rides tonight– Our room hasn’t been turned yet and I think I needed a light something to carry me through until tonights blowout at the Dome. Stopped in for some gumbo and coleslaw and a few brews. Service– polite and efficeint. Really friendly. Prompt. Gumbo– I’ve had much better, Decent tast but was covered up with rice, waaayyyy too much rice for the price. The coleslaw was good and fresh. Great taste. The beer was cold so no complaints there. Should’ve ordered a burger.

For a hotel restaurant, The Landing is decent. It’s decorated like most hotel restaurants, nondescript, but not necessarily cheap. The staff, however, is cordial, helpful, and never intrusive. It was quiet, there was only one other diner, on a sleepy early evening, so I don’t know if the quiet is normal. I ordered the crawfish étouffée. Crawfish is pretty hard to come by where I live now, so I took every opportunity possible to try it. What I received was a huge bowl of smooth, creamy, and hearty étouffée served over the white rice. It wasn’t very spicy, so that was a bit of a disappointment, but it still managed to hit all the right flavor notes. The warm rolls served before and with the meal were a good accompaniment. The staff stopped by only as much as needed to check on things, and were never pushy. The restaurant manager came by as well to make sure I and the other diner were pleased with the service. I had the impression the Landing was trying to improve its service, or had been dinged in previous reviews, but I appreciated the sincerity of the staff in wanting to make sure things were okay. A service establishment actually caring about the service — what a concept. It’s always a difficult choice to opt for hotel dining when you’re in an area with a lot of options, but I’m glad I tried it. I wasn’t at the hotel long enough to try to the breakfast choices, but if they’re as good as this, then I don’t think I’d have gone wrong.
