Well, it was interesting. Unfortunately, Saturday was their last night. Closing and, maybe, moving to mid town. The food was very nice, a may deserve another star, but it was painfully slow coming out. I understand the closing, Sat night and only about 5tables full. Service good, but he kept saying 2more minutes, for about 20. Wish I could go back when they are on top of their game

I debated between 3 and 4 stars. It deserves 3 ½. My husband and I went for our anniversary and had a great time! We got there. about 8pm on a Monday and it was not busy at all. We got the Mussels Marsala, Fried Green Tomatoes, Short ribs, and shrimp. The two standouts for us were the mussels and the short rib. The mussels were delicious! On Mondays you can get $ 6 martinis so we took advantage. I had the cucumber ginger martini –delicious and the Lemon Drop– okay. It would have gotten a higher rating if we hadn’t had a couple of clunkers– the tomatoes, shrimp, and Lemon Drop. They also need to SERIOUSLY fix their bathrooms. The doors aren’t set right and they don’t close. Pretty ridiculous for a place trying to be an upscale date night. The service was awesome though. Not overbearing at all but we never ran out of anything.

They say on Unilocal the first 25 reviews are family, the next 75 are friends. As the 100th reviewer I can attest I am neither. But perhaps I should have read some of the reviews before I went. The food, decent, probably a 3.5 on quality. Slow as snot though. Restaurant is at the most 33% full and everything takes 15 – 20 minutes. Not the definition any tapas bar I have been in adheres to. Then there is the wine. This is listed as a wine bar. If it is a wine bar it should feature wine in amazing varieties, not the standard suburban pallet of Pinot Grigio, cab, blah blah blah. Most places designated as a wine bar actually have giant shelves of wine laid out in front of you, not here. It is shelves of alcohol instead. Lose the wine bar tag on Unilocal and your credibility may increase. Then you have inattentive bartenders, especially those who share conference calls with friends at the bar. When it’s quiet, the entire restaurant can hear your conversation with that third party. Very annoying. Almost as annoying as the lady who sat down and started to watch Netflix/Hulu/YouTube/whatever on her iPhone. You guessed it, without a headset/earbuds. And no one stopped her. The crowd noise half way drowned out the tinny sound of her phone, but, really? This is socially acceptable at a suburban bar here? Wow. So, to recap, non creative but tasty food, decent atmosphere when not ruined by patrons, bartenders, etc.

Totally exceeded expectations. Menu looks like a hodgepodge of bistro classics, but the execution is amazing. Edamame hummus and Brussel sprouts were both new riffs on their origins. Pimento Cheese Crostinis & Truffle fries were amazing too. Service is personable & responsive. Wine list is not extensive but is solid. House wines are an above average selection.

I enjoyed the bacon-wrapped dates and lamb meatballs this evening. The Colby red was very good. I desired the St. Louis ribs, but they were not made. Service was OK. When trying to settle the bill, nobody was to be seen. It was a very slow night so I guess all stayed in the back. F

Tapas for days. This restaurant is located in the same shopping plaza as DSW but on the other end. The address takes you to a random spot so make sure to just pull into the plaza. PARKING Private lot SPECIAL/DRINKS We came on a Tuesday night and it was $ 2 any beers! They also have an extensive menu for cocktails and wine. FOOD Since it’s tapas-style, all the entrees range from $ 6 – 10 per dish. The portions were average for tapas; maybe a tad more than other places. Good amount to choose from and each dish is labeled with its respective country. The Winners of the night –Lamb Meatball: yum yum yum –Moroccan Chicken –Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese: cheesy and tasty. The Losers of the night –Coconut Shrimp: the batter was fried to dark golden brown resulting in a very hard shell to chew. –Fried Green Tomatoes: the batter was very bland –Pimento Cheese Crostinis: the pimento is very creamy like cream cheese. –Brussel Sprouts and Apple: bitter after taste… –Paella Flatbread Pizza SERVICE Superb. There was only our table and like two others that evening. Waitress was attentive and friendly. Overall, neat tapas/bar restaurant in Kennesaw to grab a drink and grub with friends.

Went here last night as a group of four. My first impression was cute décor and a nice vibe. It was a bit humid so we didn’t sit outside but the patio area looked nice. We were seated prompted and our server came over shortly thereafter. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I don’t know if it was a special or the usual but she offered us a selection of house wines for $ 5 so we ordered one. We ended up with about 12 – 13 different plates and almost all of them were great. I personally tried the chicken and waffles, chicken salad fritters, deviled eggs and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were a little bland but that’s my only complaint about the food. The noise level was a bit much but I suspect that’s due to the concrete(?) floors and high ceilings. I would definitely return though.

Such a great atmosphere. Service is always speedy. They have a delicious cocktail menu. My favorite is the strawberry lemon drop martini! The small plates make it really fun and you get to try a lot of different foods. Fruit and cheese board is fabulous!

Food was amazingly good! We had a large party of 9 and they handled us well. We were in on a Wednesday night. Had to beg them to allow us to bring a bottle of Silver Oak that was a graduation gift, the reason we were celebrating. We were bringing 9 people in on a Wednesday night and were expecting some leniency on their corking fee, they obliged on one bottle. We were thankful for their service. Great bar selection! The server was very inexperienced but a sweet girl. She was doing her best and was very nice. This is a great place and we will be going back for sure. ALL the food we ordered was very good.

Decided to give it another try. They appear to have worked out their kinks. Great service and excellent wine selections. The menu is constantly changing which is great because they offer a variety of yummy tapas. One of the best restaurants in kennesaw.

I went this past weekend for my birthday. The food was ok, the service was hilariously bad that it was actually entertaining. We were a party of five. We get there and are seated right away as expected because the place was nearly empty at 7 pm on a Saturday. We were probably at our table for 5 – 10 minutes before the waiter came. Fast forward to ordering our tapas and drinks… everything took FOREVER to come out including drinks. The waiter forgot a few of our food and drink items several times we actually had to remind him about them. I don’t understand how that was the case because the place was not busy at all. I was very disappointed with the Spiedies(perhaps spelled wrong). The description of the item read something along the lines of «skewered lamb, peppers and onions with bread»…I was thinking I was going to have a lamb, pepper and onion kabob but instead it came out looking like a sub with the meat inside of the bread and the peppers and onions in a plastic container on the side. The bread was charred and the lamb was tough. The mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and fried green tomatoes were good. The calamari was tasty but too bready with not enough meat. The sweet heat bites were ok. Several items on the menu, particularly the entrees were no longer being offered so that disappointed some of my friends who had looked up the menu beforehand and had already selected what they wanted to eat. The atmosphere is casual(open table says the attire is business casual I actually had to call and get a clarification). It would have a much better atmosphere if it was a little bit more busy. Overall we enjoyed the experience but that was mostly because we were joking about how bad the waiter was. I would probably NOT go back because on top of the poor service which I can excuse(maybe he was new, maybe he was just having a bad day) the food was NOT that worthwhile on top of it.

Seriously, did someone pay someone to write these 5 star reviews?! To say it’s the worst place in Cobb might be a tad overboard, but it’s darn close. Considering nearly everything in Kennesaw are chain restaurants, that’s not saying much. We tried twice to come here prior to, only to find they were closed hours before their website posted times. Let’s start off with service, the place was practically empty, aside from 3 other tables, yet it still took around 5 minutes for someone to greet us at our table. We ordered our drinks, and I kid you not, it took 13 minutes for those to arrive. We started off with the Marsala mussels. These were probably the only decent thing we had, but be warned, the portion is ridiculously tiny compared to other tapas restaurants. The only saving grace for these were that they were marsala, I love marsala, it makes everything tastes marginally better. So there’s that. Next up I had the Lamb Chops. They were plated beautifully, but tasted like cold flavorless raw beef. That’s right, cold. I love my meat very rare, especially lamb, but these had zero flavor, I mean lamb has a very distinct flavor right? This is unacceptable for the price. Next item for bids? The Chicken Satays. Again, zero flavor. It tasted like chicken boiled in water, served in water. I bid them a farewell and didn’t finish them. Mushroom Risotto. Bland, flavorless, and nothing like what risotto should be. The balsamic mildly saved this dish in a few parts when you were lucky enough to bite into it. Otherwise, it was pure mush, like grandmas bad oatmeal. But the worst of all? My boyfriends fish tacos. These were the tiniest tacos made by the hand of man, actually I’m pretty sure they aren’t made for man at all, but maybe some small marsupial or toddler? They were roughly about 2in long. There was a single flake of fish in them about 1 inch long, and that was it.(see attached photo) They had the most foul dough like flavor. He said screw this place, we’re going somewhere else to eat. and we did. Of course after we waited the 20 minutes for our check to arrive, while the server stood behind the bar flirting with the bartender the ENTIRE time. Also party anthem electronic music blared so loudly is was uncomfortable, it was dead in there, it’s not a party, and I love EDM music. You’re not some trendy restaurant in Atlanta, you’re not even mediocre place in the suburbs, stop trying to be something you’re not.

I just had my bachelorette party weekend in Kennesaw and I have only two regrets — First, that I didn’t have time to get my eyebrows done beforehand and second, that I chose this place for dinner. Not really knowing Kennesaw, I didn’t have inflated expectations in advance — B+ food and service and I would have been absolutely thrilled. The food was indeed a B+, but this was probably the worst service I’ve experienced in the last three years. I had planned to write a really detailed review but I wanted to cool off first, and now that this many months have gone by I think I’ve blocked the specifics out of my memory. I vaguely remember our waitress going away for something like 15 minutes before we had ordered — like full on, WASN’T AROUNDANYWHERE. Anyway, I wish I could remember more(or maybe I don’t), but it was extremely unpleasant. There was a nice 90s guitar guy there. That was fun :)

I don’t have much to say about this place yet because when we came around 9pm on a Saturday night, they already shut down the kitchen. Of course, we came there for food. We wanted tapas for a late night snack/meal after I basically skipped lunch that afternoon, and this place kept popping up on my Unilocal app every time we looked for a new place to try. We could also tell this is a «work in progress» kind of place. The bartender told us they had just upgraded their bar, which was lacking purse hooks(this is becoming one of my pet peeves. I don’t want my purse on the back of the chair where someone could easily steal it, or on the dirty floor where it’s impossible to pick up gracefully. End rant). And, we inquired about their cider beers and he told us they only serve Johnny Appleseed(yuck!!) because they got a discount. We may be back to try some tapas, and get wine, I guess? Overall, I didn’t see anything impressive about the place. The musician who was playing was really good, though!

Truly amazing! If you’re in the area, this place is a «must stop.» I visited from out of town and I sat down to this wonderful little restaurant on a random Monday evening. Service was wonderful, the food was creative and fantastic. I’ve never had Brussel sprouts before but I would have theirs again and again, so delicious. Along with the mussels and lobster crab bisque. The owner chatted me up a bit and I found out the origin of the restaurant name. He even kindly poured me a glass of Cabernet that he was finishing off, on the house :) This restaurant is situated in an odd location but don’t let that throw you off. Stop in and eat. You won’t be disappointed.

This was a hidden gem in Kennesaw that I am not sure people know about due to the location placement inside a hidden shopping center. The food was excellent for everything we tried. I though the serving sizes were good for tapas and the price was ok. The negative was the bartender was quite slow as he socialized with his friends at the bar while making our waitress wait for our drink orders each time.

Just went there again for the 2nd time this past weekend and enjoyed it just as much as my first visit if not more so. It’s definitely a nice little surprise for a small place tucked away in a corner of a strip mall in an area filled with so many dining options. Prices are for the most part reasonable and to be expected for a tapas place. I like that they don’t have a million different things like Elipse di Luna, but enough to where you can still have a nice variety. Most of the items range from $ 5 – 8 but the portion sizes can be tricky. Some items have a much different portion size than others and knowing how much will be enough can be tough to gauge til you get going. That said, they are very quick to prepare the foods so you can always order more as you go. Personal favorites so far have been the pork shank, fish tacos and tuna tataki. The brussels n apples were also very good. They also offer a decent wine list and have some pretty good beers available in bottles.

4.5+ stars. Lots of changes since my first review of Five40… Apparently Kennesaw DOES care about terrific, trendy food served in a cool environment. The vibe is great. Business has steadily increased as word of mouth has spread the good news. You’d best make reservations, as the place fills up fast. And with good reason. Here’s my update. The space has remained largely unchanged since my last review. The owner wants to create an environment of conversation: a social club. No TV’s will be found at Five40 along with no apologies. Hey, you’re going to have to converse. Meet new people. Get intimate with your date. Maybe even put down your phone for a couple hours. It’s been a few months now since Five40 had a change in chefs. The now top-Chef, KP, kept a few favorites on the mostly tapas-style menu, and she has taken an Around-the-World approach to the updated menu. Dishes representing Spain, India, Korea, Thailand, Brazil and China make ordering fun and adventurous. Among the highlights are the Korean Short Ribs, the Brazilian Bobo de Camarao and the American favorite, Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese. Notably the Short Ribs, or Galbi Gui, are tender, fall off the bone, and appropriately seasoned in the Korean style. I’ve watched this dish evolve and Chef has gotten it right. Mmmm. The Bobo is surprising. Small, tender shrimps in a pink coconut-creamed yucca broth with a bump of white rice in the center of the bowl. I attack the shrimp first, then sop up the remaining sauce with the white rice. Really good. The Mac n Cheese is not your mama’s recipe. Orechiette, or little ear shaped pasta, is in a smoked gouda sauce. Not as thick as the traditional baked dish your mama made, this is an updated, modern take on the old school version. Caramelized shallots top the dish and add a flavorful, unique twist. There are plenty of other great small plates, too, including bacon wrapped dates, the popular brussels sprouts and the über-trendy deviled eggs. Way to go, Chef! Five40 has live music most nights. Typically you’ll find great acoustic folk and pop that’s not too loud but a perfect accompaniment to the vibe. On weekends you may find a DJ playing dance music later in the evening. The attractive wait staff is young and energetic. The bartenders, led by Adam, are professionals at their trade, expertly mixing up traditional as well as in-house-created specialties. Martini-type drinks are a highlight and are usually on special. The wine list is modest, but like the rest of the menu is focused on quality with some value plays as well as a number of higher end choices. Martini Mondays. Wine Wednesdays. Selfishly I am delighted that Five40 is doing well. I am a fan of the Five40 experience, and it deserves a prominent place in the OTP restaurant scene. I especially like the fact that Five40 is in my own backyard. For those who live in Atlanta, Five40 is an interesting culinary experience worthy of a trip outside of the city.
