Any Italian deli that makes their own giardinera is cool with me. We had just eaten at Mac’s, so this was strictly a giardinera and beer run. Inside it’s definitely more of a bodega, with lotto tickets and check cashing services. A bunch of kids posted up outside on their bmx bikes. The vibe was slightly seedy, but more due to the area than the place. The deli in the back had plenty of tables, and a couple dozen menu items and prepared foods. Everything looked ok in the coolers. Counter service was ok. Pretty much a standard place, nothing wrong with that. I’ve heard good things about their subs, so I’ll definitely return for those someday. Edit: 2015… Sad to hear the Lencis are retiring and selling the business, the deli part will be closed.

I hate giving out one star. I truly would love to give out five because that would mean I found something great. Sadly, this is not the case. You might think it would be difficult to mess up something as simple as a sandwich, but Lenci’s succeeded. Probably having watched too many New York deli segments on one of the food networks, I ordered double meat on our corned beef with Swiss cheese and brown mustard on rye bread sandwiches. So when the ticket rang up at $ 24 fifteen minutes later I reassured myself repeating double corned beef, double corned beef. Arriving home I went in and ripped open the bag to reveal two slightly larger than normal sandwiches. Unwrapping and biting into the sandwich I found less than fresh bread that was rather crumbly, only slight mustard, and corned beef that could have passed for ham. C’mon Kenosha, give me something to RAVE about!

Part bodega, part deli, Lenci’s has an extensive sandwich/appetizer type menu, and they do it pretty well. They have some small tables inside where you can eat, but I have always taken my food to go.
