It’s hard to come up with anything remotely positive about the DMV. Really, it ranks just under going to the dentist for most people. The one good thing about the Kenosha DMV is it’s not as busy as the ones located in larger cities. However, the service is on par with the rest and you’ll still hear the infamous, mind-numbing number calling that seems to burn into your brain for the rest of the day like a Carly Rae Jepsen song. If you’re renewing your license, then do not expect to receive it that day. They now mail new driver’s licenses out in the mail and provide a piece of paper that acts as your new license till the physical one arrives in the mail. If you’re registration is coming up for renewal, check the card you received in the mail, because most can be renewed online at the Wisconsin DOT website. The online registration renewal can be done with a credit card, which is not an available option at the physical locations. The prices for the«services» can be located on the Wisconsin DOT website. It’s good to know, because they only accept debit cards and cash at the physical locations. Unfortunately, this archaic entity is in need of a serious overhaul or should be completely privatized, thus allowing for a multitude of locations, more methods of payment, and well, no more number calling. One can dream. Enjoy your next trip in.

My work takes me here often. I’ve been to many DMVs and Secretary of State Offices in the surrounding states. I have a lot to compare so I feel confident that I can objectively give this location high marks. The staff is really great. Really. Way better than most government operations. There is only one staffer that I’m certain would melt if I threw water on her. Everyone else is conscientious, courteous and genuinely helpful. Ask Floyd how he took care of his neighbors skunk infestation. I was laughing so hard I cried. I’m in love with Stephanie. Here are my tips to make this as pleasant a visit as possible. 1. BEPREPAREDTOWAIT! Are you kidding me! I sit here weekly listening to people complain about waiting. Non stop. And they get really mad. They are disgusted. They complain to other people waiting and crank them up. They call friends to tell them how mad they are because they have to wait. Then they go to the counter and they are rude. Unless you’re here for the first time ever, getting your learners permit, ITSSTILLTHESAMEASLASTTIME. SUREITSUCKSWAITINGBUTITSTHEGOVERNMENTPEOPLE! THEREWILLBE A WAIT! DON’T BESURPRISED! DON’T BEMEAN! 2. Check out the website so you are prepared for your visit. The Wisconsin site is actually good. The forms you will need are there. Instructions too. 3. No credit cards or debit cards accepted. Period. Don’t waste time asking why. Don’t complain to the people working there. They don’t make the decisions. Bring cash or check. They even have a cash station.
