Good sushi for the price, decent cuts, and decent portions. So far, it’s my top pick for sushi in this area. It’s nice when these little strip mall places can hold their own. Don’t expect to walk into a place that makes you feel like you’re in Japan. For strip mall sushi, it holds it’s own. I went in late in the evening and the owner made the sushi. We ate in, so I didn’t experience a bag of slop when I went home, so I cannot speak to the take-out experience. Overall, fair prices, good sushi, good portions.

Been here many times over the years. I always go with my sister and her family and each time it’s wonderful. It feels like I’m eating at home :) Customer service has always been consistently welcoming and great. Old man Hiro almost makes sure we are enjoying ourselves. The lunch specials, like many have mentioned, are a steal for sure. Food comes out promptly each time. Free jasmine tea and water is available at the front counter. This is a relaxing and home-like restaurant to eat tasty food.

They were awesome. So many years in Rockville and I had never been here. Their buffet sushi had variety and taste. We will be back!

If you’re not into the fancy sushi this is the place. Lunch specials are my favorites

Still love this place. Yes it’s not the best sushi in the DC area. But, it might be the most cost effective. :-) Regularly have the sushi and the curry chicken. Two thumbs up. Read a few reviews, and it sounds like they might have hit them on a bad day. Hiro gave my daughter an extra bowl of miso and fish eggs(she loves them). Wonderful little place. Well worth the visit.

Last month I would have gave a stellar review, however old man Hiro has lost his savvy. Sadly quality has gone downhill. He has his flock of Latinas doing the work for him now and I was in love with his authentic sushi made by his hands. I walked in today and requested the double as usual. The container of sushi slop was bagged and handed to me within one minute of ordering. When I asked when it was made and attempted to l look in the bag at my purchase, grumpy old Hiro snatched it from me, gave me my money and said you don’t want it you go! So, I go! Customer service is everything. I won’t be back.

I work near here and I love sushi so I went to try this place. Its cute, run by a sweet couple and pretty decent sushi, not the best but FAR from the worst. Pretty much at a sweet spot between taste and price. I am going to keep coming back when I need sushi but can’t go to my regular spots.

Delicious hole in the wall. 5 stars :) I got the nigiri salmon and the marinated beef w/rice — friends got the California roll, yellowtail, dart maki, and yakisoba. Prices are very low and the staff are very nice.

One of the hidden gems in the Rockville, MD area. I’ve never had a problem with the food or service. Awesome sushi and great prices. You will not be disappointed. This is my all-time favorite spot that I frequent regularly. The only reason why they are getting 4⁄5 is because of their limited menu selection.

We didn’t eat here, but wanted to. We walked in, wandered around for a little while until we figured out the order that counter system, then looked over the menu. The place seemed to specialize in more or less nothing other than plain Jane sushi rolls. I’m sure the could have made us a mean California roll, but sometimes you want a little more than that. The place was also *silent* despite that there were about 10 other people there having dinner, and really not that big. We felt like we had interrupted something :/Didn’t stay because we felt so awkward and uninspired.

I ate here for lunch today for the first time. They have lunch specials, 2 rolls for 5 dollars. I haven’t seen prices like that since 2002! I chose the California Roll and Tuna Roll combo. I also added an order of Tobiko sushi and Sake sushi. Everything tasted great and fresh. I was a bit skeptical about the salmon sushi since the cut looked different than what I was used to, but it actually tasted really good. It had a nice buttery texture too. If you are looking for ambiance, this is not the place. But I would highly recommended Hiro Sushi for a quick, cheap bite.

Good spot. Casual inside, not too fancy. Rolls aren’t fancy, compared to other spots in the area, but for the good quality and the price, I make it a weekly trip — and I’ve never been disappointed.

Great local place. The old man is nice but just not talkative. The sushi is simple and tastes fresh. This means no frufru Philadelphia rolls or the like at this place. The prices are phenomenal. Always our go to place.

Kids and I have been frequenting this sushi joint for several years. Even followed the old sushi-maker-man — first he was in Baltimore, then at Tokyo-Taipei — now at Hiro Sushi the last few years. He and his staff are always friendly, quick with a warm greeting, and most importantly, make consistently good food. Mostly we order the California rolls but also the Shrimp Tempura with rice. It’s perfect and just enough. Their prices are too low for their good service and food. We will be back — again and again.

I’m not entirely sure what I was to expect when coming in here. Already upon entering, I knew it wasn’t going to be too great of an experience. You get seated, but you have to get up and make your order at the cash register and pay first. You’re also to get up and get your own water/tea. Not terrible; I guess they’re worried about the«dine and ditchers/dashers?» Who knows. Food: I ordered their Japanese Curry with Chicken(if I remember correctly) and their Chicken Yakisoba. I am a curry person; I love curry to death. But this? My curry was the only dish any of us ordered that was served on a paper plate, while all of the other dishes we got were on proper ceramic bowls and plates! What’s up with that? The curry was beyond mediocre. It was the most watery curry I’ve ever had. I could literally make better curry from scratch. It’s really not that hard to make decent curry. Also, as the other reviews stated, the chicken was rubbery. The Yakisoba? Oily and virtually tasteless. I was starving, and the curry came first. So I demolished it. The yakisoba, which had even less of a taste than the curry(somehow) was just unappetizing. I ended up taking it to-go manually and giving it to someone else. My friends, however, had a decent experience. One got a California roll, which he seemed to enjoy. My other friend got an Eel bowl, which I would simply be disappointed if Hiro Sushi decided to half-ass their eel. They did a decent job with it. It was good, but parts of it tasted either burnt or bitter. I love eel, so my friend who was too full to finish it, allowed me the honor of demolishing it. Service: I will say, I only gave 2⁄5 stars because the service wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t great, but not terrible. They’ll still bring you your food, and the old man making sushi and lady who I presume was the server were both welcoming enough. Emphasis on enough. Overall: The prices were not half-bad, but the dishes were mediocre and just flat-out plain. The value, therefore, is worthless. I understand it’s a sushi restaurant, but I think customers have the right to critique if anything the owners decided to put on the menu is bad. And really, I think they should stick to sushi. I only came here because we were driving around and got hungry. The reviews averaged at 3/5, so we didn’t think it could be that bad. Yeah… I would not return. Rather, I would much prefer going to McDonald’s with my money at this point. I wouldn’t say that I’m undermining them, since I at least enjoy all of my experiences at McDonald’s. Lastly, aside from slightly acceptable service, I gave two stars for effort. They tried in some ways.

She said…“Just ate here for lunch got a California roll and sesame chicken with rice. Both tasted old and just not good. Chicken tasted like it was made 4 days ago, very spongy and rubbery and the sushi was not fresh at all. First and last time I’m coming here.” He said…“Barf, I’m still throwing up from this place. Very old food they are serving, it will give you a stomachache. I’m all about local family restaurants but this place needs a makeover. And when I mean a makeover, I mean demolish the place and start from new. If their food was at least a day old it would have a chance, but when the chicken tastes rubbery you know that its been sitting around for days. Sorry but you are not my Hiro…”

The sushi and appetizers I ate were 3 — 3.5 stars. If I was in a bad mood, I would not like the non-talkative cashier, his heavy accent, and the average interior… but the fact that the prices are very good… makes me glad that this restaurant exists an an option. The cashier was nice, because after I ordered he pointed out a special that would save me money. But no… he did not smile and he did not talk much. The sushi and shrimp/veggie were not outstanding, but they weren’t bad either. I got two rolls + shrimp/veggie tempura for about $ 12 – 13. If you looking for excellent sushi… go elsewhere.

Great place to go for a casual lunch. Service is quick, which makes it a perfect place to stop in during a break from work. I love their lunch specials. $ 5 for 2 rolls of sushi(preset combinations), or an assortment of noodle dishes. Their udon noodles are great, but I’m always still a little hungry after, so I usually add on a roll of sushi too.
