C & R Boger Construction

this company is so sorry, I called them for a bid and the guy shows up without a ladder, and has enough nerve to ask me for one, what a joke

I filled out an entry for a drawing to win a $ 1000 ACE Hardware coupon — and it turns out it was really only a way for C & R Boger to harvest info for their sales staff.
Within 30 minutes, the phone calls started. I got 4 of them in the first two hours, until I blocked the number on my phone — this was AFTER telling the FIRST sales person that I did not want them to call me, to take me off their call list and not to call me again.
Then, they started calling my cell phone and calling my house from another number.
I don’t care if they are the only contractor in the universe, I will never use their services and I will never recommend them to anyone. I had actually been thinking of getting my house re-​sided and I will hire another contractor, one who is able to listen when I ask not to be called repeatedly.

We just had our roof installed by CR Boger. I had to call them the day before to make sure they were coming the next day which they confirmed. Most companies call customers to confirm. The crew and materials arrived on time the next day. They worked hard all day. My husband came home and realized they installed the wrong underlying, and they used staples instead of nails. I’m thankful my husband knows some about roofs. We talked with the sales man and production manager. The crew tore off and installed the correct underlying the next day. Production manager was supposed to send pictures to my husband of the progress but never did. Luckily, I was home to make sure the roof was being installed correctly. The crew finished installing the roof and skylights the same day. They did a great job once they put down the correct underlying. They also did a great job cleaning up.
The owner of the company was supposed to come by the next day, but never showed up. We noticed one of our vents was missing. Found out, they covered it up since it wasn’t hooked up to the roof. It would have been nice to know, because we probably would have hooked it up. Now, it just vents to the attic instead of outside. My husband told them to come by on Tuesday after 5pm to sign the final papers. They came by on Monday at 8:30pm. Thankfully, they didn’t wake up my son.
In conclusion, the roof looks nice. CR Boger has poor communication, and we don’t recommend them.

So I posted this review last night.
By this afternoon I had recieved a call from one of the owners, Mike to discuss the issues. I returned Mikes call on my drive home. He did his best to apologize for the headaches we’ve had and he informed me the other owner Randy was in our neighborhood and wanted to come by to check out the job and talk to us in person. I truly appreciate the personable effort made to remedy the situation by both Mike and Randy. CR Boger is going above and beyond out of their way to make up for the trouble we had.

Working from home on a weekday afternoon is not an infrequent event for me. The quiet allows me to get way more done than if I were in my office with a constant steam of interruptions. Occasionally there will be a knock at the door, but it is always some sort of parcel being dropped off which was my first guess when I heard a heavy knocking at the door one Thursday afternoon. «Hmmm, I don’t remember purchasing anything that would be delivered», I thought to myself as I got up from my desk. As I approached the front door there was another heavy, even aggressive rap on the door. As I approached, I could see that whoever was there had taken a couple of steps backwards so I felt plenty safe opening the door. However once I opened it, I felt immediate regret as I realized it was someone clearly looking to sell me something.
Him: Hey, how’s it going sir?
Me: I’m fine. How are you?
Him: I’m great, thanks for asking. I’m here representing CRBoger. We’re a construction firm and we’re going to be doing some work in your neighborhood…
Me (Interrupting): Thanks, I’m good. (Start to close the door)
Him (voice speed and volume raised): Actually, the main reason I’m here is to simply let you know that we’re going to be working in your neighborhood and wanted to let you know up front that we’ll do our best to minimize noise and dust.
Me: Great, thanks for letting me know. (Start to close door again.)
Him: Wait, wait, wait… as long as we’re already working close by we’d be happy to bid on any work you may need done. I see your windows are good, but his siding is starting to show some wear.
Me (Annoyed): No thanks, as I already stated, I’m good. (Start to close door for the third time, but this time with resolute determination.)
Him (As door closes): Don’t you want a flyer?
Door closed. Deadbolt set.
There are so many things about this interaction that irritated me – and really my written dialog doesn’t do it justice – but I’ll state up front that the interruption to my day wasn’t necessarily one of them. I have admiration for people and companies who are out hustling trying to make a living.
But, if you’re out selling something door-​to-​door…
…dress the part. This guy was scruffy, unkempt and his clothes looked like he had been on a site all day long.
…listen to the person you are speaking to. There was only one response that I should have heard after telling him I was good the first time, and that response was, «Thank you for your time have a nice day.»
…don’t make the person you are speaking with feel unsafe. The fact that I felt an instinctive need to set the deadbolt after closing the door says a ton about the aggressive image that guy conveyed.
…don’t lie. I don’t for a second believe that CRBoger is going to be doing construction work in my neighborhood. I know all of my neighbors, thank you very much. Responding to another review, the owner of this company wrote, «We do not employee (sic) door to door sales people. We do not like to bother people when they are home with thier (sic) familes (sic). The only time we knock on someones (sic) door is when we are installing a roof or window job in their neighborhood (sic). When our rep knocks on your door he is instructed to explain that we are installing a project for a neighbor and give the customer the address. We do not just go around and knock randomly.»
Uh-​huh.
Now I will acknowledge that CRBoger has an A rating from the BBB. But, from my experience, these guys are right up there, check that, right down there with the team at Toyota of Lake City (
). I wouldn’t trust them to dig a hole for an outhouse.

Add me to the appalled and pissed off people. I never heRd of CR Boger… I get cold called by them about my roof. I want gutters redone, not a new roof. I bet they got my number from some other company as a «hot leads «…Whatever. He didn’t sound like a guy who’s ever even been in a ladder. This is a sleezy industry when u get the big names. This are one of those contractors that won’t let you talk about your estimate until your wife is there too! Excuse me, I pay cash, I’m the one who knows about roofing, my wife does not want to be involved. She’s busy.
The real reason these salesmen use this tactic (jorve and state roofing do it too) is so when they drop the huge estimate bomb on you, statistics must show it’s easier to scare the shit out of your wife. This helps close the deal. «Honey, he says out roof is in dire emergency!!! We might die!» Piss off. There are plenty of other companies. Ask them up front if they require both spouses to be involved. Call Chet’s for example.
When I buy a car they don’t require my wife down there. When I pointed this out to their rep, it’s like he had heard it a million times before. Couldn’t wait to get me off the phone. Stay away.

We recently had CR BOGER come to our house to quote gutters and just take a look at our roof for future budgeting purposes. But our main purpose was to gather quotes to purchase gutters. We expected the guy to walk around our house write up a quote and be out of there in 15 minutes. They were at our house for just over 2 HOURS! The sales guy gave us a huge speech and samples of the roofing materials. Which was good, he did provide us with a lot of information. But only about 15 minutes was spent on gutters. our actual service request.
The quote for gutters was $ 4000 OVER our other two gutter quotes! He was shocked on how low the other businesses were.
To make a long story short he kept offering us a ‘deal’ lowering the price every time we said no. He asked us what does he need to do to make us sign today? Finally my husband flat out said we are just gathering quotes for gutters and are not making a decision tonight. After that he finally formally wrote up the quote and left.
It reminded us when looked at getting a time share… every time we said no… the sales associate offered us a better deal and kept lowering the time share price down.
This shouldn’t be the case for gutters and a roof or any item for that matter. We have been a home owner for over 10 years and have dealt with a lot of contracts but have not once had one offer us «Deals» like the way this CR Boger did.
We were not impressed at all and wouldn’t recommend them.
**UPDATE**
They called for a follow up a few days later. I told them how I felt, they apologized and wanted to make it right and send out a gutter guy to re-​quote. Scheduled an appointment, they even called the day before to confirm the appointment.
The gutter guy was a no show, not even a phone call. It has been 3 days and I still haven’t received a call from them.

I have never been so embarrassed and insulted by a business before. They came to give us an estimate for ROOF replacement. Two men came in a sporty sedan dressed in Business Casual. They used OUR Ladder to get on the roof to do the measurements because they didn’t have their own. I can’t imagine how they had intended to get on the roof if I didn’t have a Ladder?
It was clear that they only had intentions of trying to sell us their high end product. Obviously I can’t rate them on their product or service since I refused to let them back into my home.

Surprised there are not more reviews, but read the first two and have to agree with both. Initial caller asked about my «husband» and whether he would be home when they came for the estimate. Received a call one day before the estimate and was asked to reschedule, which was fine, but one day prior to the second appointment I was traveling for business and they left a voicemail to confirm, followed by four missed calls from four different phone numbers every hour thereafter until 8:15 p.m., when I finally was able to return the call. I called and politely cancelled the appointment as the repeat phone calls were too aggressive for my taste, and the person who answered was initially condescending about the reason I gave, then kept trying to sell me on changing my mind. It was all a bit odd.

These guys were excellent to me and my family. My experience started with a cold call by a courteous guy who wanted to give me a free quote on windows; I had just had my roof done so I wasn’t keen on spending any more money. The guy said no pressure we just want to give you information so I scheduled the appointment. At the appointment (I believe Craig showed up) was very friendly and just a nice guy to talk to. He didn’t do a dog and pony show but gave me some good education on what to look for in a window. At the end he gave me a price and asked if I like the company and I said the experience was great so far and he replied the the VP of sales would follow up in a day with me. The follow up was by a guy named Nick, just as friendly, just as nice with no pressure. He tried to figure out terms that would work for me and my family and then left us with it to think on it. I can say they are a company that I feel comfortable inviting into my house. They were very inclusive of my wife and even my child and treated us both with respect. One other thing that surprised me as they were very respectful of their competitors which was very nice to see, it showed honesty and integrity someone I want to do business with. I disagree whole heartily with the previous review that there was any assumption that my wife could not make a decision they were very inclusive of her in the whole process. I will call them up again in the future when the time comes to have exterior work done.

I own my own house. I make my own decisions. I am adult. Sadly, for the guys that showed up to my house today to give me a quote on reroofing my house, I’m also female. Evidently that still equates to «Wait till the man arrives», «We know you are not going to make your own decisions», and «Why, little lady…».
I couldn’t talk them into producing a quote for me, even looking at the roof or gutters. At least I have 2 other companies already lined up. I know one company at least that won’t be getting my business.

Just got home from work on a Friday, starting to relax and a knock came at the door. A Boger sales rep greeted me and launched into his sales pitch trying to setup a time for an in home evaluation. He asked a lot of personal questions that shouldn’t concern a construction company such as:
–How often are you home?
–Are you home during the day?
–Do you have a wife?
–Is she home during the day?
It was borderline uncomfortable. I checked the BBB and they have an A+ rating. I can’t find any disparaging remarks or reviews online about them, but the whole experience came off as a little shady.
