NLS Northwest Landscaping Service

This company was hired by my HOA to do regular maintenance of the grounds and they promised only the best of service. They ignore even the most obvious over-​growth, and the community has never looked so shabby. Even sending them proof of problems gets nothing in the way of action. We pay our bill in full and on time, but we sure don’t get service at the same level.

If you are hiring NLS for a very large contract, like the Château St. Michele job the other reviewerm Jeff B. talked about, then I hear these guys do great work. Also, apparently Microsoft is a big win for them. But if you are a mid-​sized HOA (we have 70 units front and back maintained throughout including a good size park and other common areas), then I recommend not using NLS.
NLS was the landscaper chosen by our builder because they were the cheapest. NLS wasn’t maintaining the landscaping to the level guaranteed in their contract and when the newly formed HOA board (of which I am a member) pushed them on it they claimed they needed to be paid more. Their reasoning was fair, so we doubled the monthly amount we were paying them. For a brief moment things started to improve and then began backsliding. Weeds were three feet high, small trees got out of control, shrubs looked ridiculous.
NLS was unable to ever figure out the irrigation system. The confusing thing was that NLS really seemed quite earnest in their desire to keep our business, but in the end wouldn’t send the personnel necessary to do the work detailed in their contract. Ultimately, NLS started showing up less and less. Last week they just never came and it turns out they quit but never told the Board.
Again, if you are a large $ 10K+ per month job for NLS, they will probably show up with their A game. If you aren’t big enough to matter, then you’ll get their second stringers, at best. My advice is to avoid these guys regardless just on principal. We found them to be pretty dishonest and didn’t EVER comply with a contract that they supplied and on which we never negotiated.

I get to see these guys work everyday. They show up early in every type of weather imaginable and just plain and simply do a great job. Other companies that maintained our landscape did not put in the work or care like NLS does. Previous companies would mow randomly and our grass would look shorter on on side of the property then the other, These guys are on top of mowing, trimming irrigation like nobody else. I would highly recommend these guys to any business or homeowner in a heartbeat. If you are a fan of how well the grounds are maintained at the Château Ste. Michelle you can thank these guys.

My HOA hired this company to replace our landscaping in a small condo building. They sent four people the first day to tear out the existing plants and to prepare for the irrigation system. They create quite a racket while they do their work — some of which is expected, but the constant yelling back and forth was unreal. NLS workers yelling was excessive. Because I legally run a business from my ground foor commercial unit, the HOA rules require that any noise disturbance must give us advance notice. This was not NLS’s fault that notice was not given, as the condo management company should have done this. However, because I was conducting a webinar for 5 hour (starting the webinar before the power tools started), I had to ask them 5 times to stop use their leaf blower (they were too lazy to use a broom), and to stop using the cement saw. NLS workers completely blew off my requests and as a result for extended periods, my clients could not hear my voice. This is just poor customer service. The noise was so loud that 2 of my clients dropped out of the webinar. Seems to me any homeowner requesting a change in action should produce the foreman. If the foreman had just come on site when the first request was made, and addressed the issue, and stopped the noisy activity until after my event was over, there would not have been any problems. The condo management company agreed that NLS should have stopped, and has asked that I get an apology, which will not satisfy my clients that were disrupted by their noise. 24-​hrs later, no apology has been recieved. My suggestion… dont hire these people because they do not communicate well with homeowners.
