Was on my way to Gilberts and noticed on Unilocal that you can check in turnpikes and expressways and I guess thats a great thing people need to know what are the best roads to go on to get to your destination. This could be a reallyyyyy longggg ride because it is mostly a one lane going back and going and if there is an accident it becomes very difficult It has moments when it is a two lanes and thats when people speed to get ahead of whoever is holding up the road. It is also a very dangerous road if you are traveling at night theirs no lights so please drive safely if you decide to be on this road. They have improved the roads dramatically thou they have fixed the streets and have added signs that were needed not to mention they have added a wall that seperates the coming traffic so they cant swerve onto your lane. The view is beautiful once you get on the bridge you get to see how beautiful the ocean is with its amazing breeze. Just prepare some good music and make sure you go to the bathroom before heading out! Hope this was helpful!

A beautiful scenic route to the Keys providing the first glimpses of the land and water views yet to follow. Ample opportunities for passing lanes during this 18 mile stretch linking the mainland to the beginning of the upper Keys. On rainy or heavy traffic days, always opt for the Card Sound Road alternate route. It is about 15 minutes longer overall, but there is considerably less traffic and a much more relaxed and pleasurable route for $ 1 bridge toll. This alternate route merges back on to US1SOUTH, so no worries. The snaking blue concrete median lane divider, though an inviting colorscape to the gateway of the upper Keys, has become quite weathered and bleached through the years compliments of Mother Nature. Some restoration would do this wonders.
