John Pennekamp Dive Shop

A few things less than top notch: 1) Very inflexible in their policy of charging for an extra day if you can’t get the tanks back by 5pm shop closing time. We turned our 3 in by 8 a.m. next day and got charged an additional entire day’s rental cost despite the clerk having mentioned to us that their was some flexibility if we called the shop day of to mention status (which we did). 2) Also, clerk didn’t give us enough reality-​based intel, didn’t mention that at Grecian Rocks, despite the 3 – 5 ft surf, there’s a buffer there that breaks the waves and allows for pretty safe diving. 3) And the $ 280 deposit left on the credit cards 4 days later requiring a follow up call to get it removed wasn’t fun to deal with.

Great dive boat and crew. Skipper Dan and 1^st Mate Nick were friendly, very helpful, and skilled. Every dive was 1 hour bottom time. Nick came along on one dive and pointed out the sights. The shop facilities were 1^st class as well.

We are two couples on a long weekend through the keys. We had two dive and two snorkel (they were happy to accommodate). Have been out with several operations throughout the keys and these guys do a great job. Great service– we felt comfortable the whole time and they were very nice. Excellent equipment fitted prior to departure. The boat «Visibility» was in great condition with plenty of room aboard. When we’re back in Key Largo, we will happily dive with this operation again.
