Der Fondue Chessel

Great fondue, beef or chicken, option shrimp/​scallops/​venison/​tri tip, AND chocolate fondue for dessert. Come once and you’ll return everytime you’re in Keystone.

I was pleasantly surprised with the meal and the staff during our visit since I have heard and read so many mixed reviews about this place. Let’s start that just riding in the gondola about 3 miles from base to the restaurant at night is quite and experience. The staff at the base greets you with blankets to make the gondola ride more enjoyable. Once we arrived, we were directed to our destination and I felt I was somewhere else but in Colorado. The restaurant seems like a communal restaurant, in the best Bavarian style. I felt like when I went to Munich in Oktoberfest. The ambiance in the restaurant was very cheerful and you can see how different dinner parties were interacting between each other. It all was very natural. I guess having the musicians playing some classic tunes, including the chicken dance, just made everything very cheerful. Also, the staff was outstanding, very helpful and knowledgeable of the entire menu. We started with the cheese fondue and added truffle oil to it, totally worth it. This was my favorite part of the meal. Then we did the raclette with bread and cheese as well as steak, chicken and scallops. It was good, but nothing remarkable. However, the chocolate fondue was outstanding. I wish I had a second stomach to finish it. Overall the whole experience was excellent. We even got stock in the restaurant due to a blizzard for about 3 hours given that the gondola had to be shut down, and the staff was very helpful and doing anything possible to make us feel comfortable, including my 4yo daughter. This place is worth experience, at least once.
