What a beautiful spot. Love the partially open air roof and the empty bay windows that look out over the ocean. The food here is excellent — expensive — but excellent. Come with a group of four or more so you can try a variety of items(and split the bill…) Standouts: Chai tea– made fresh to order and is wonderfully authentic. Try it with milk and a spoon of honey. Any and all kebab plates. Comes sizzling to your table on a cast iron plate! The smell is intoxicating. Malai kofta– go spicy with this one. A creamy and savory/sweet veggie curry made with cashews. Lamb saag– spinach curry w lamb. I LOVE lamb saag and this one of the best i’ve ever had! Onion kucha– like naan but softer. Had the garlic naan too but liked the texture of this better. So good! Hari the owner is sweet as can be and makes sure your service experience is top notch. Food: 4.5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 Value: 3.5(v expensive)

Great ocean and sunset views! The food was tasty and authentic. I was craving Indian food after a few days vacationing in Kauai and was so glad to find this restaurant as soon as I flew into Maui. Very expensive though– but I guess you have to pay the price for its wonderful location right on the beach!

Sorry I couldn’t give them a six. Monsoon has best sunset views, and the food makes it memorable. I dream of their curries. Kadhai chicken will do that. I recommend you try Mutter paneer. So good. Spices, and aromas…

The food taste not great but it really good, if you like the Indian food, I would recommend but the only thing is its expensive and they charge 15% for service fee but if money is not a issue I would definitely recommend to try this place out.

Ate here last night with our husband. The food was delicious. We had the eggplant vegetarian dish and lamb curry. Both we perfect. We haven’t had Indian food this good since our engagement trip in London and it came full circle that we are on our honeymoon having another great Indian meal! Definitely worth trying even if it’s a tad expensive. Beautiful sunset view was an added bonus to the great service.

Went there for the first time with friends for dinner. I’ve lived in Kihei since 1996 and even own a condo in Menehune Shores where Monsoon is located, but had never been. We will definitely be back. All four of us tried something different and everything was tasty, and appropriately seasoned. The garlic nan bread was perfectly crispy and chewy and we could have made a meal of that by itself.

Very good and yummy food. Superb ambience. It’s sea facing restaurant, you get an amazing view. We had Paneer masala, Garlic naan and Onion Kulcha. All the three items were very tasty. One of the best Indian restaurant in Maui. Very spacious and very nice hospitality. If you are looking for good Indian taste and food this place is must visit.

Pros– 1. Delicious Indian food. 2. One of the best ocean view restaurants. 3. Nice hospitality by everyone in the restaurant. Cons– 1. Little expensive but that is standard for Maui…

This restaurant has a very nice view of the beach and you get the warm airflow of the water. We got a table right next to the open windows facing the water. The service was excellent, the waitress was very nice and knew a lot about the food. She took our orders and we enjoyed the view while waiting for our food. Service was fast, we ordered chicken and lamb curry with medium spice. Also, Chana masala with medium spice, 2 garlic and 2 regular naan, and a salad. The food was very tasty and rich, but not overwhelming. Spice level was perfect and gave it a nice kick. Also we got to meet the owner and he is a very humble character to say the least. He made us feel welcomed and really cared about our opinions. Overall, this is probably the best Indian restaurant on Maui, great food and excellent service. Will come again.

Great service — food quality ok. If you flew from the Bay Area California for sure this won’t meet your standards if you ate Indian food there. Good to watch the sunset in Maui. Food arrived on time and the service was quick. Drinks choice was good but super expensive. Mango lassi for sure is a pass! If you are traveling in Kihei this is the only choice for Indian food, very large space.

Decent food decent service good view but they are certainly very expensive. We were here on Christmas Day. Vegetarian buffet for two and they charge us 81.73 a tip of 18% was added when it was a buffet and they didnot even serve us food. That is ridiculously expensive and bad! Will not recommend this place to anyone visiting Maui

I wouldn’t rate any restaurant that asks for spice level authentic. Food was delicious. Lassi, Paneer Tikka, Biriyani and chai were all on the mark. Service was very good. The ambience takes the top spot. Go for it regardless of whether you love Indian food or would like to give it a try on your vacation for a sunset dinner.

Love this place! The service is very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed just like a Maui restaurant should be, without compromising quality. There is live music occasionally which goes well with a beautiful sunset view. We’ve been back a few times and they are consistently the best Indian we’ve had. Can’t pass up the Malai Kofta and samosas, yum. Just beware if it’s a rainy day you’ll need to be dedicated to the cause, it’s an open roof but you can always get a table under cover :)

Awesome authentic Indian food served in Indian style. Taste is amazing. I was wondering how the taste of Indian food will be in Hawaii but I felt home back while tasting the Indian food here. All Indian visiting Maui should visit this restaurant without miss.

Monsoon India, back when it was Shangri-La By the Sea, was what turned my family and me onto Indian food. It’s our absolute go-to ever since! The service is always exceptional, and they’re sure to ask you the level of spiciness you’d like for your food. And if you’re looking for vegetarian options, you’re in luck. I don’t think I’ve ever actually eaten meat here, I’m too enamored with the palak paneer, chana masala, and baingan bharta. If you somehow manage to not stuff yourself completely full of crazy-amazing naan, rice, and curry, save room for mango kulfi or rice pudding at dessert! The only reason I keep this at four stars instead of five(and trust me, that was a hard thing to do) is the price. We don’t come here as often as we’d like, since we usually spend close to a hundred bucks for a family of three plus a toddler. Still, it’s quality, authentic food that satisfies us every time.

Our family is relatively new to Maui and our family loves good food. We have been hearing many positive comments about Monsoon India’s food from neighbors and friends. I decided to go and sample the food myself and treat my wonderful neighbor to lunch. The food did not disappoint. The food was outstanding! I enjoyed the complexity of ingredients, spices, and intoxicating aromas of each dish. We started with the vegetable samosa which was served with two types of sauces, mint and tamarind. Tamarind was my favorite. We ordered the lamb koorma, vegetable vindaloo and garlic naan to accompany our main courses. Everything was exceptional. The staff were friendly and gracious. I can’t wait to go back with the family!

Live music. Great food. Prices were higher than what I usually pay for Indian on the mainland but being in Maui with such great vibe and view comes at a price and was well worth. Thanks.

The mosoon India is a restaurant integrated into a huge condo resort with good parking opportunties outside. The entrance is quite sterile, with a touch of India but it doesn’t convince and seems to be a little artificial. We got a table without reservation, however we then waited a long time to get the menue. The menue is complete for an Indian restaurant and the selection is good. Unfortunately we did have to wait for about 40min to get our main course which is too much, even though the view is quite nice. We then received the plates, the food was good, but the portion rather small. Therefore we asked for some additional naan. The waiter brought some more naan and did not give us the feeling that we have to pay for it but we had to. with all this, I feel that the price is too high.
