I want this place to be great because Kilgore needs a great sports bar type of place. They are off to a good start with the atmosphere. Love the new bar with all the big screen TVs and the open air section for music. Heard they are in the process of enclosing this section as well but in such a way it can be open air when weather permits. Outstanding beer selection on tap and full bar with all the premium choices. Fried pickles are to die for and the burgers and fries are outstanding. Chicken fried steak and steak fingers are good and I had no problems with the gravy as previously mentioned. What I want to see improved upon is their salad. It is evidently salad-in-a-sack and it is straight out of the sack. Doesn’t appear to even be rinsed. PLEASE in a burger/bar-food joint, there has to be some really good salad selections for those who enjoy the atmosphere but want to at least pretend they are eating healthy. They have the right idea in a great venue. Now, I so hope they will bring the food up to standard.

Very good if not typical american café style food. Prices were good, setting was clean and staff quick and friendly. They have live music throughout the week with a cool outdoor space and bar. Would recommend to anyone that finds themselves in Kilgore wanting something other than a chain restaurant.

Food is good. The service can be suspect at times. But overall a solid place to go. They have live music on weekends and have the best bar area in Kilgore hands down!

I had a chicken fried stake with salad and French fries. Very nice with the exception of very cold gravy. Overall nice meal but I had to listen to the shuffle of dominoes as there were two games of 42 going on. Pretty loud and if u want a little peace and quiet this would not be your place. I will go back because the food is worth the noise.

Not The Back Porch I grew up on. Extended nice patio area, and live music. Perfect place for beer, friends and live music.

This place has came a long way, very unique look and the atmosphere is incredible. On the down side I don’t enjoy the food. Got FOODPOISING from eating the chicken fried steak and the lettuce needs I mean HAS to be FRESH!!! Not some half ass crap. Other than that, it’s a decent place.

I so wanted this place to be awesome! It has a great atmosphere and a large outdoor seating area. The menu is extensive and looked good. I’m hoping it was just an off night. I ordered grilled chicken that came with a salad and Texas Toast and fries, although I ordered a baked potato for an up charge. I also ordered in sweet iced tea. My coworker ordered a buffalo burger, not buffalo sauce but actual buffalo patty. Our waitress was pretty inattentive and first got my tea wrong(brought me sweet), was slow(we hardly saw her), and never took any dirty dishes off our table. My coworker said his burger was mediocre and wasn’t even sure it was buffalo. It also didn’t come with any sides and he chose not to order any. My chicken breast was small, over-marinated, and dry. The cook also forgot to put the grilled onions on it, so I had to find my waitress to ask for them. I’m hoping this was just an off-night. Like I said, the place has a lot of potential, so I would be willing to give it a second shot.

This is the place to go in Kilgore TX, live music every weekend, great people, and the staff is awesome, The food is the best in Kilgore, at reasonable prices, over the last couple of years the Claytons have done many upgrades and renovations, If you don’t check this place out, it’s your loss

JF score of 9⁄10(+3 for food, +2 for atmosphere, +1 for price, +1 for fountain Diet Dr Pepper, 0 for typical service and +2 for we will return sometime for the fried pickles) We have finally found our replacement for Joe Buck’s fried pickles! We each got a basket of fried pickles and they are especially what cause us to give the food here a +3. Now, the burgers were very good too but man, those fried pickles with ranch! These pickles were the long quarter slice type with the perfect golden breading crunch to pickle ratio… We each also got a burger: a mushroom burger and a buffalo burger with a fried egg. The meat in each was delicious and only limited by the bread= it is our conclusion after eating many a burger that the bread is the greatest limiting factor of a great burger and can also be, if great, what makes it stand out. Anyway, food very good here. Complimentary hush puppies and beans can be had which put this place one notch up from Jucy’s. Atmosphere is good in the newer bar area or outdoor area. The bar area has more wall space covered by TV than by paneling! I counted at least 6 different sports channels each on at least 2 different TV’s all over. The outdoor area was nice and all with the misters and of course there is still the old part inside too. Price was good and under $ 15. They have fountain Diet Dr Pepper. Service was just typical and okay. We will definitely be back sometime for another round of our long lost fried pickles!

We had a decent sized party of about 10 people. We were in the older section of the restaurant. Our server took our beer order and it took a little longer than expected to receive our beverages. My friend ordered a dinner and received his salad. When the entrees came. He received a chicken sandwich and not what he ordered. He had to tell multiple people to get them to put in what he actually ordered. The server didn’t even know what he ordered. When the checks came, every single check was wrong. The sever ended up balling her eyes out in the kitchen and the manager had to come out and fix the bills because our server was incompetent. Not going back anytime soon. If I do I’ll sit at the bar because they have a good draft beer selection. Restaurant service sucks.

Used to eat here often when I lived in ETX many moons ago. It was a good burger joint then but it’s a grrrreat burger joint now. Much larger, much nicer, a great bar with huge flat screen tv’s all around – a great place to eat, drink and watch sports while enjoying the best burgers in ETX. Don’t miss this place if you are anywhere near Kilgore or Longview!

This is a very homey, comfortable place, with a very friendly staff. The only problem I had was that I ordered a chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and they brought the gravy on the side, which seems to be the norm, and it was the consistency of milk. My friend ordered the same thing and his gravy was fine. Someone at the next table got gravy that was way too thick, so it seems that they have a consistency problem. The food was good, and the house made chips were great. If I had not had this problem I might give them 4 stars.

The back porch is a staple in our small town of kilgore! It’s a great burger joint to go to. There is a great patio to sit on when the weather is nice. They have beans and hush puppies to tied you over while waiting for your food. The wait is not normally long at all. You do have to stand in line to order your food but please don’t let that scare you off. It’s worth the wait!!! Also try the home made chips! Delicious!!!

We were driving through Kilgore on our way home from a vacation in Florida. We stopped after 10 hrs in the car and were starving! The service was horrible! From The start to the end it was slow and just plain awful. The guy and gal«singing» would have made a great drunken karaōke team however they didn’t appear inebriated and seemed like they were trying a little too hard. The burger was ok, but it may have been because I was SO freaking hungry! The fries were bland and cold when I got them and it took forever to get the bill so we could get the HECK out of that place. Don’t waste your time or money… go to the next town over!

Food is good. Service used to be great, it sucks since the remodel. Have given this place 3 chances since the patio reopened. 15 min to get drinks, 30 min for appetizer, 45 min for food. Ridiculous. 2nd time we had this waitress and she needs a different job.

The Back Porch is excellent for those searching for an authentic, down home, genuine dining experience. All of the food here is country style food, just like your momma would make it. The management & wait staff do their best to make your time there as enjoyable as possible. There is usually some sort of live music going on, too. And now with the beautiful renovations to the patio area, the bands will be even more often. I highly suggest this place for a fabulous meal, a couple of beers & hospitable service and conversation. The atmosphere is exactly what you think you would find in a little old burger joint in East Texas.(Though I suggest the chicken fried steak– YUM!)

There are no gluten free options, but I was able to get a hamburger steak plain, a salad and sweet potato fries. It was pretty tasty… My complaint comes with a woman who worked there. I first saw her pick up a bar towel and she wiped her chin with it and set it on the counter. About ten minutes later she picked up a bar towel and proceeded to wipe at a bad cut on another servers elbow.. all by the beer tap so I could watch and be grossed out by the sight. She then placed the towel on the COUNTER! Now I am completely grossed out… after she bandaged his arm she at least picked up the towel and moved it to the other end of the counter, by the register… hope that one isn’t used to wipe down someone’s table. If I forget that experience, I will be back. But if I don’t forget it…

Suppa with the bride– Much improved from our past experience. Service was much betta. Food was good. Buffalo burger with chili. The nick is I asked for no lettuce and got lettuce. The beer was cold and timely served. Dude didn’t bug us but watched us for low liquid content. Yeah, I’m happy with BP again.

We waited to be seated and no one would come to the host stand so we left. This is pretty much the same as other times we try to eat in this place. They have good burgers but we only get them in the drive through.
