Gold’s Gym

I have been a member of Gold’s for a little over 2 years. No matter where I travel in the country if there is Gold’s nearby they have always been helpful in making sure I have a great place to workout. I can’t imagine belonging to another gym. Big thanks to Justin and his staff for taking care of me.

I love the fitness classes, the cardio theatre and sauna but the gym is so incredibly busy in the evenings. The membership is very cost effective and the classes themselves are worth more than they charge for a membership. I plan to stay with Golds.

If you’re ever looking for a gym to join I would suggest staying FAR away from Gold’s Gym. After being unsatisfied, but under contract for two years they’ve automatically renewed me on a month-​to-​month basis without my knowledge. Now I’m stuck paying another month of fees for a gym that I never liked and don’t plan to use. I called customer service only to be told that «it’s in the contract» a million times without any offer of refund or discount. Mind you, I haven’t seen a copy of this contract since the day I signed it two years ago!

Check it out and one of the female «sale associate» last name Garcia gave me horrible service. Did not even try to sell me anything, but made me pay the daily fee of 16 dollars. I don’t care about paying but her attitude was pretty disturbing, I didn’t even need membership to a gym when I can attend one for free on post. If you are a soldier that wants to lift weights just go to Burba on post.

I have finally after two years I canceled my membership. Two years of dealing with these people has been the worst thing I have ever done. I have had to deal with creditors, cancel bank accounts and save emails just to be like: hey man I wanna cancel”. I moved away a long time ago and even before that I was told my membership was canceled. Then I move and and get a bunch of phone calls from creditors claiming that I still have an account with a balance I have to pay. $$$ and six months later and I am still not canceled. Finally in August it was canceled. However, all my phone to inquire if it was finally canceled failed.
Luckily today was a godsend. Miss Charity from the front desk answered my questions and helped me in five minutes. Everyone else has given me the runaround but nope Charity did it all. She even apologized for everyone else!
I do recommend this gym to anyone. Terrible service. Very dirty and the membership contracts are sloppy. Very tough to cancel. I would never use them in the future. My advice if you plan on using their service is to keep records of everything. Write down every name of anyone you deal with and take photos.

I gave this gym 5 stars because it’s convenient to my home, has everything I need for my workouts, and mostly, the friendliness of staff. I’ve been to every gym in the area and it works best for ME. I’m seeing lots of complaints, mainly due to things beyond Gold’s control, such as about parking and childcare. I’m aware of the comments I may receive but having children is a choice. I’m the mother of 2 myself, but before deciding to have a child, one should consider not only the cost of diapers, formula, clothes, etc., but also the fact that along with bearing children comes major body changes. Hmm, how am I going to get back into shapes after this baby is born? Am I going to workout at home or join a local gym? Is daddy going to watch baby while I workout or should I try to fit a workout in while baby naps? Should I hire a nanny/​babysitter, Au-​pair, whatever? Which gyms have childcare? What are their hours? Out of the ones that do, what are the time limits and if so, do the time limits depend on the age of the child? When my kids were babies, I had hired a babysitter specifically for my gym time become I didn’t like the hassle of dragging my baby into someplace. Furthermore, if the child needs changing or cannot be consoled, your workout will be interrupted in order the care for your child. So, basically perhaps take these things into consideration before having children and then blaming a gym because it doesn’t fit your specific needs. I realize that good businesses attempt to suit the needs of everyone but that is impossible. I mean for $ 15 – 20 bi-​weekly, what do ppl expect? It’s not an exclusive racquet club or country club, it’s a gym. Also, when I joined, I took notice of the for-​profit school next door, Univ of Phoenix. Since the facility seem rather big, I assumed that classes would most likely be held there, mainly in the evenings, and I expected the parking lot to be very full. Now that parking lot has to hold all the cars of all the customers from all those high traffic stores/​businesses. Is it reasonable to expect them to have special parking for ppl w/​small children when certain amount have to be reserved for disabled and Century Link customers who are mainly in and out? These sound like personal problems to me and have nothing to do with the gym. I don’t own the business or work here. I just get annoyed by all the complaints. I hear the same ones in the locker room. Stop whining and making excuses.

This is the most disgusting gym I’ve ever been in. It smells disgusting, the equipment is outdated and difficult to use. It’s almost always over-​crowded. The sauna smells like rotten feet when it’s not broken. The staff is only helpful if you pay for their time. When I asked about cancelling my contract, the lady at the front desk was rude and very snippy. I informed her that I would be moving 2 states away and she told me it didn’t matter, that I would have to continue to pay. The staff is so rude, and so many people that work there quit. When you become a member, the staff will hound you about purchasing trainer sessions, but won’t speak to you otherwise. I wish I would have kept my membership at Planet Fitness.

I started to go to a few months ago, and I love it. It has been awesome!

This is the worst gym I have ever visited! My fiancé is in the army and stationed there. I wanted to workout with him while I was visiting and so I went to Gold’s with him. I am a member in Las Vegas, and they allow guests for free, not here! I had to pay almost $ 17 dollars to go to the gym for one hour. His membership costs almost 4 times as much as mine monthly, and they can’t even allow guests? The gym was half the size as the one I go to and the class schedule isn’t very accommodating. The customer service wasn’t great either. I would not recommend this gym to anyone.

I loved golds in San Antonio but I have a lot of complaints for killeen.
1) I am a geographical single parent working full time. Unfortunately I have to bring my kids with me to work out. When I go to the gym (doesn’t matter the time of day) there is NEVER parking except in the far back. So I have to carry a car seat and two year old across a busy parking lot. Can we get some «small children only» sings? HEB has them.
2) classes are only at 9−10am or after 5pm. This forever me to go in the evening since I work from 7 – 4. My daycare opens at 6 and closes at 6 so I am forced to get my kids and come back. Can we get a few 4pm or even 5pm classes?
3) classes are an hour long and if you have a child under 6mo they can only stay at the play area for an hour. Can there be a 10 minute grace period, 5 before and 5 after to set up and take down.
4) lastly, body pump is offered like 5 times or more during the week but combat and attack only once or twice. I understand that instructors are hard to come by.
I got this membership to get in shape for my upcoming APFT after having my second kid and I’m really thinking I’ve wasted my money. It’s a shame because he classes are amazing and the facility is nice, but it’s not worth the logistical hell.

Overall winner of the 2013 Challenge; have the plaque and emails to prove it, but was removed as winner due to haters. Don’t trust these people to run an honest and fair contest, in spite of your investment and efforts. Besides the gym health has seriously faltered — took them over a month to replace burnt out light bulbs in the sauna and replace broken boards. Not the gym it used to be. under aged children let to run free in the jacuzzi while I was a member.

Large gym with new stuff. Don’t expect to use if you are not current. I went back for a 1 day pass and was charged $ 20.

Still not a fan of this place. Machines are dirty and there’s always too many people and not enough equipment. I’ll be looking into canceling my membership before long.

I absolutely loved this gym, up until I had to terminate my contract.
The equipment is great, never overly busy, classes are wonderful! I tried my first yoga class here and fell in love. I accomplished some serious goals training here.
When I signed I let them know that I am really interested in their gym, but would only be in Texas for 8 months while my husband was deployed. Most contracts for gyms aren’t something like «8 months.» When he returned we would be going back to his duty station in California. The guy I signed with assured me that being so close to Fort Hood, they work with military all the time and are able to break contracts without fees by just simply seeing duty orders. He even signed me up for the 2-​year contract instead of the 1-​year, saying I would be paying a lower month to month rate.
When the time came for my husband to return I was running around doing a million different things, preparing to move across country. I was sure that cancelling with GG would be the easiest on my list of to dos, seeing as how when I signed I was led to believe it would be a breeze.
I was wrong. When I came in to cancel (it seemed the most logical thing to do) I was told I had to call an automated line. I am not even joking when I tell you that I called this line 100 times over the span of 2 days WAITING FOR MY CALL TO BE ANSWERED. I would be on hold the lengths of 30 – 40 minutes and my call was never answered once. I never talked to a human being. I was deeply upset and stressed by the level of uncourtesy.
Finally being fed up I called and told them I really needed to cancel and their stupid automated bullshit wasn’t working. «Oh, yeah, we’ve been getting that a lot» was their answer. I demanded to talk to one of the managers. I spoke with her over the phone. She was very nice and understand but told me there was almost nothing she could do and I had to come in and see her.
I came in to see her, I brought my husbands duty orders, she had to do something she basically wasn’t supposed to! Just so that I could get what I was told I could. Which was out of my contract for no ridiculous fees. I wasn’t allowed out of that contract until I moved back to California, moved into my house there, and emailed her a copy of our signed lease agreement. I had to pay for 2 extra months of this gym, but wasn’t able to use it. The reason I had to do all of this she told me, was because they were having this happen so often and were tightening up.
Okay, that’s fine, but communicate that to your staff so that they don’t sell someone the idea of it being a painless transition. I was even charged a complete extra month after I was told my contract was terminated. When I called to ask why, I was told it takes a month to clear out of the system. Really? Sounds like BS.
It is still a wonderful gym though and I would definitely recommend if you are a Texas native and are going to be around for at least a year!

I joined this gym a little over a month ago, and frequent the place about six times a week. It’s a real gym, not some warehouse hack like Gym X or Heritage Park. Granted you pay a bit more, but it’s worth it. The people that go there are all business and not snapping selfies in the mirror.
What it possesses:
~brand new treadmills
~warm up room, yoga/​Pilates/​Zumba room
~cinema cardio room
~crossfit area
~25m lap pool, hot tub and sauna
~childcare
Only real complaints are parking can be Difficult at times, super packed from 5−8pm on weekdays, and on two occasions a personal trainer threw me off of equipment cause they needed to train somebody. I guess I shouldn’t mind the last one as some people need the help.

I just recently joined because the gyms on post are always crowded or closed for maintenance. Also, classes on post only happen during the middle of the day while I work while Gold’s Gym has a more flexible schedule. I have taken two classes so far and they are pretty good. I don’t think they are for beginners because they just jump into the routine without much guidance but one can pick it up with time. The gym is spacious with lots of machines and weights. I do not like the locker room I think they need more maintenance and cleaning but is not too bad. However, I don’t think I would want to shower there, the gyms’ locker rooms on post are actually cleaner and well maintained.

This gym includes ammenities you don’t find in a small town like Killeen. Some machines need maintenance but overall there is no surprise to the fees and services. I get a personal trainer who works with me and my injuries, that is always a plus. The child care is rare for a gym which is also a plus. Hot tub, sauna, the pool, showers, and locker rooms — I give this gym a 4 out of five. If the front staff were friendlier and thicker skin, not all customers are going to be polite, it has a potential to be great. Big city gyms with same ammenities thrive because of customer service, and that displays uppermost professionalism even for a small town like Killeen.

I was in town visiting my parents and since there is no yoga studio i decided to take the opportunity of doing a class at golds since I’m a member. This was my first yoga class at golds EVER. The teacher today was good but not welcoming. And by that I mean really she didn’t welcome anyone in. The moment I set foot in the door (20 mins early) she was already doing various yoga moves. The room was small and a tight squeeze, which I really didn’t mind. First thing she says to us is what she got her degree in? Okay? I’ve had multiple teachers and that was a first. But I guess maybe she is proud? Not a big deal though. To just point this out we are at a vinyasa flow class which slow and usually great for beginners. The lights were dimmed and there was relaxing music in the background like it should be, but people were laughing. And falling doing poses. And she continuously pushed intense poses that are usually not at this level. I know through out a practice a teacher will throw a couple hard positions but this lady was getting technical and people were struggling and she wasn’t helping them find their balance or breath (two important things of your practice) it was more of her showing off what technical moves she could do which one of them new she almost fell forward saying «oh I’m just really right today» (this is a kinda bigger lady not fat just not what you expect your yoga teacher to look like) it wasn’t peaceful like It should be and I definitely didn’t feel welcomed. I definitely didn’t get the practice I needed or wanted. Ill stick to the yoga studio I go to home (Austin) where the instructors actually care more about you and their practice.
As for the gym itself its just as beautiful as the one I go to in Austin. Very clean and looks well kept. Can’t say too much since it was my first time going to this location. I definitely won’t be going back to their classes though.

I initiated a cancellation 1+ months ago and, though cancellations are apparently handled at corporate level, my local gym isn’t tracking it. I haven’t been going because I had thought my membership was cancelled as intended, but since that’s not the case, I will start going again.
If you are a Fort Hood service member, I recommend using the facilities on post as they are free and better maintained. Oftentimes the same bathroom stall would be «out of order» for weeks on end.
I am big on getting VALUE out of anything I pay for and this, compared to alternatives, honestly isn’t worth it.

I come here almost everyday. Although it can get packed at times… I never have to wait on a machine or weights. Staff is always walking around checking to make sure things are clean and where they need to be.
There’s a pool, an a cinema inside so you can watch movies while you workout. It helps to keep your mind preoccupied instead of wondering when the pain will end. haha.
Trainers look like they’re in decent shape. People greet you with a smile and wish you a happy workout. It’s awesome.
