Every fall, my wife and I go Apple picking. A few years ago, I stumbled upon this orchard in the BuyCTGrown website. Not only do they have a plethora of varieties to pick from, but they also have Pears, Peaches, Plums and Blueberries too. I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I was never going to have a decent Peach ever again, especially with the way the corporate food conglomerates harvest them in Florida and California. By the time they find their way to New England, they’re usually flavorless or mealy. This year, we picked some Peaches here at Palazzi’s and they are the best Peaches I’ve ever eaten. We came across a staff member in the orchard and he told us what to look for when picking the best fruit. I really want to thank him for his advice, because I’m in fruit heaven for a while, until I run out and have to return to this wonderful place. We came one week too late to pick Plums, so next year, I’m scheduling a day in mid-August to grab some of those. If they’re half as good as the Peaches, I’ll be a happy camper. I also noticed a few trees with Asian Pears, my favorite kind of Pears, so I’ll be going back in a couple of weeks when they’ve ripened.
