Popped in for a tasting this weekend with my son and daughter in law. It was a short trip from Montross but easy to find. Staff was really friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. Pourings were not skimpy. They have quite a few wines and the tasting included ALL of them for a very small price. Atmosphere was nice inside. Nice gift shop(jewelry, wine related gifts, pottery) and a seating area to enjoy glasses of wine, cheese, crackers, meats that you can purchase as well. Check their hours before visiting — they change slightly depending on the season. There are few other wineries some great place to eat in the surrounding area so make a day of it. We purchased a bottle of a favorite for an upcoming celebration and I’m sure we’ll be back with friends to taste and buy again.

We had a lovely time at Oak Crest today. Sharon, the wine educator, was very knowledgable and personable during our tasting. We sample 2 reds and 3 whites plus 2 ports. My favorite was the Sangria, followed closely by the Summer Rose. We ended up with a bottle of Sangria, and enjoyed part of it while noshing on crackers, cheese and summer sausage. It made a great little afternoon snack! We visited for awhile with Mrs. Brandt, the owner, about the grapes being picked and how the wine making process differed between the Reds and whites, as well as methods for keeping the deer out of the vineyard! We had a really nice time here and will definitely be back again soon.

Made a second trip while visiting the VA neck and am still impressed. A few old favorites were out(Sunset Serenade, how I miss thee) but pretty much everything I enjoyed, and the service was still spot on. Nice variety, from sweet to dry to sangria to a white port-style. They also have the Symphony grape(a UC Davis hybrid of Grenache and Muscat), making them the only grower of this grape in VA. This time around the Cab Sav was the favorite; rather fruit-forward by Cab standards. The Summer Medley(desert wine/fruit crossover) was nice, and they had sangria! Lucky the sangria is only 8%, because it I could easily drink a whole bunch of it.

Very nice vineyard. Five bucks gets you a tasting of 11 wines. I prefer wineries that have local grapes and they used their own. Our server was very nice, knowledgeable and efficient. She provided just enough information about the wines without telling us what we were supposed to taste. The«Hot Jazz» is made with jalapeño… odd but we ended up getting a bottle for the novelty of it. It turned out to be a big hit. I also like that it wasn’t jam packed and we went on a Saturday afternoon. Make sure you pick up a Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail passport. Visit seven and get 10% or all nine and 15% for a year. Not a bad deal.

Great winery. Delicious wines that were affordable. The woman who did the tasting was friendly, knowledgeable without being pretentious, and made for an overall pleasant experience. Nice fireplace to sit in front of while enjoying a glass afterwards. I highly recommend!

Beautiful area outside to relax with a bottle of wine and cheese. Nice rustic atmosphere inside. Tasting was not rushed and had good conversation. The wine list was very diverse and flavors were intense. I had a hard time choosing which to purchase in the end. I also left with a new wine rack. Their gift shop area is nicely laid out with many interesting items. I can definitely see us coming back here to enjoy during warmer weather.

Cross-reference«Oak Crest Vineyard and Winery» for additional reviews. This vineyard was very comfortable and homey with extremely reasonably priced, tasty wines, cheese, and sausage. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The grounds were pleasant with well-shaded outdoor seating. The only reason I don’t give five stars is that I felt the tasting room needed a better view of the inviting surrounds.

I went here with my husband for a leisurely Saturday day date and fell in love with this hidden treasure. Just a short ride from Southern MD where we live. We enjoyed the Sangria and the Summer Rose. After the free tasting, we liked so many wines we had difficulty choosing which ones to take home! We will be back soon, with friends!

Great winery to visit! Virginia wines aren’t going to be in the same class at Napa or Sonoma but this winery produces some great easy to drink wines, their Symphony wine is great to enjoy chilled outside during the summer. It’s a Riesling varietal that seems to grow well in the hot humid summers of Virginia. My wife thoroughly enjoyed their«Hot Jazz» which is a blend of Symphony and Jalapeño peppers. Like I said, it’s not your traditional wines, but they produce them well. Everyone who worked here was very friendly and knowledgeable. We stopped by with our dog since we were driving to my in-laws and they were very welcoming. It was a great way to relax midway through our trip. So it’s dog friendly to well behaved dogs! They have a great outside seating area which would be nice in warmer weather. We will definitely stop by again!

What a great ‘find’! Very nice wines — something for every taste and reasonably priced, extremely friendly staff and a beautiful facility, both inside and out. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to spend a sunny Summer Sunday afternoon!

Melody– if it sounds like music to your ears, then it will certainly be delightful to your palate. It is a delicious light sweet summer wine produced at Oak Crest Vineyard. My dog and I stopped on a day when they were closed, but the owner was there and opened up for us– very kind! I purchased a case of wine.(Couldn’t help myself) It was all wonderful and even though I prefer reds, these guys have really got a great thing going on with their whites! Seriously. The strawberry wine is delicate and the embodiment of the perfect feminine southern hospitality. The Hot Jazz is very fun– I love spicy. The Ruby is delicious too. You can purchase stemware very inexpensively from them with their logo on it. Cheaper than you can buy plain stuff at the store– so if you are thinking future graduation/wedding or even Christmas gifts, do yourself a favor. Pack a picnic and drive out to Oak Crest for some wine. Plenty of indoor and outdoor tables. Some food for sale on location. Extremely human and dog friendly.

I absolutely adore this winery. We stumbled upon it while farting around in Colonial Beach 2 years ago. We’ve been several times since then. They have quite a variety of wines. One that really stands out is their«hot jazz.» It’s a white wine that is 1% jalepeno peppers. It sounds strange, but it’s really unique and goes really well with mexican food. The staff is amazing. They are sweet, friendly, and knowledgeable. And if I remember correctly, they waive the tasting fee if you buy something, which I always do. One time on a slow day, they gave us a free cheese sample. Also, my BF called once to see if they had any hot jazz left. The gentleman said that only had a handful of bottles left for the season. The gentleman offered to hold a few(without charge) until we had a chance to drive down over the weekend. I have to admit that the area isn’t nearly as scenic as the Loudoun County wine trail, but I can’t hold that against the staff! All-in-all a great place to visit. They’re open seasonally, so make sure to check the website before going. Enjoy!

This is a decent vineyard. The tasting room is really nice and well done. The best part about a tasting here, too, is that there is no charge. Yes, the tasting was actually free! Woo! Their wines were pretty good. The best ones there were the Moonlight Sonata and the Cabernet Sauvignon. The Moonlight Sonata is a very nice reisling and the Cab sauv was one of their best reds. Very nice balance and depth to that wine. The Summer Rose was decent also; it’s a Cab Franc done in a rose style which gives it a very interesting yet pleasant flavor. The Sunset Serenade is a blend of three grapes and has a nice oaky flavor while still having some fruity flavor to it. The Symphony sweet wine was also nice… a good dessert wine. Overall, definitely worth a visit. The wines are of decent quality and it’s a nice drive through some back country roads to get there.

Oak Crest was our first stop on our Northern Neck winery trail and certainly our favorite. As previously stated, the owner, Conrad, is a hospitable host and truly a delight. This is much more a ma and pa type winery and as such they do not charge for tastings; but the establishment is still very nice inside. Honestly, most of the whites were not my favorite. I’ve never been a fan of Viognier or particularly sweet wine, but their reds are where I believe they shine. My fiancé and friend really loved the Sunset Serenade(a sweeter, light bodied red) but what I found to be amazing was their Cab Sauvignon Reserve. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted such a complex Cab before. I needed two tastings of it to figure it out and then bought a bottle. They are definitley onto something. And my fiancé, who loves spice, found their jalepeno wine to be a real treat and bought a bottle too. Unlike the other reviewer, wine tasting does not have to be a monotony of the same old varietals and I actually condone Oak Crest for stepping outside the box and mixing it up. The jalepeno wine had a spicy nose but a crisp finish. Considering that they’re only working with 4 different grapes(Symphony, Cab Franc, Cab Sav, and Merlot; they import the Viognier) we were impressed that they have done so much with so little and are truly educated on the process and experience. The wines are unique and you can definitley sense the passion and sincerity from this winery and that, my friend, is what makes for a great tasting.

I sincerely hate to be unkind to owner /operators /growers… I think Virginia’s popularity as a wine region is a very cool thing and I am a big supporter. I want to like all the wineries, but alas that is not possible. Oak Crest is cute in a «Little House on Prairie» sort of way, and the staff was super friendly. BUT… the reason we came… the wine… was terrible. I am sorry — it was so bad that I had a difficult time even finishing the tasting. Jalapeño Wine? Who thought that was a good idea? I am still having flashbacks. The tasting was complimentary, but I then felt obligated to buy a glass and since I seriously disliked all of it, this was uncomfortable. Anyway, I am by no means a wine connoisseur, just a novice drinker(well a little more than a novice when it comes to drinking) but consider yourself warned. The 2 stars are not for the wine, they are for the friendly staff and cutesy tasting room.

Beautiful place, and ideal distance for those who live in the Fredericksburg area(as my parents do). Great location, many vineyards are, but something about this place stands out. It feels removed from the busy-ness of whatever you do for a nine-to-five. And the fact that it isn’t one of those WAAY off places, is nice. The best thing about this place is the above, plus, they have a lovely area to have picnics. A nice, large patio, as well as one other area to hang out at. If I still lived down in Fred, I’d drive out there every so often, go inside, try their wines, and then have a bottle with some sandwiches or snacks out on their patio with my family. The tasting room is very nice, open, wood all around. A nice homey feeling. Now, the wines. I’m giving the above score mostly for the place itself, but the wines are not bad… and I’m not afraid to say when I think that they are. They mention that they are the predominant winery in VA that does the Symphony hybrid grape. I wouldn’t necessarily be proud of that, because I don’t really like it, but that’s just me. Its semi-sweet, but doesn’t have a round, lasting flavor… its just sort of blah, almost bleh. They do several others that are much better. Their Cabarnet Franc is quite good, I purchased one. Their Rose is pretty good… one of those hot tub wines. They blend a nice Cab Sav Reserve… its mostly Cab Sav with a good dose of Merlot and a touch of Franc… it works well. I’ve got that saved for a later date in my cellar. Other than that, they have a nice surprise… a jalapeño white. Now, I realize that’s kind of cheesy perhaps… but its not overpowering, in fact they have it just give a little nuance to the wine… and I really liked it. I think it would be very tasty to enjoy with some soft cheeses. I’ll be doing so soon. The staff is nice, the place is lovely, and its not a pain in the ass to get to. I recommend anyone checking this place out, while some of the wine wasn’t for me… they know what they’re doing, and I’m fairly certain you’ll find something that you feel is worth taking home as well. Cheers.
