Valley Forge Suites

My husband and I have now lived here for 2 ½ years. While it’s not completely horrible, it’s not great either. Our rent keeps going up (without any improvements to our sub-​par living space), maintenance requests are sometimes dealt with in a timely manner, and sometimes not, and our neighbors are, for the most part, rude and inconsiderate considering the close living space.
Office staff — we have had several less-​than-​pleasant interactions. While they are both lovely ladies and I’m sure they would be awesome to hang out with outside of work, they repeatedly say they will do things, and then don’t unless you follow up. Our electric meter was misread last year causing us to be overcharged, and it took us 4 months to get the problem solved. We would be told we would receive follow up phone calls and never got them. We were told that «they don’t make mistakes» and we probably used more electric than we thought… despite having NEVER turned our thermostat to «Winter.» In the end, our bills could prove that our meter was misread and it only took several more phone calls on my part to find out we were getting a credit to our account and that the following month we could pay the balance between our credit and the rent. Another pleasant experience with them is ongoing, with another electric bill being incorrect. Perhaps in a few months once it gets solved, I’ll update. Also, the office closes at 6pm, but they turn on the answering machine around 5:30…so that helps no one with normal working hours.
Maintenance — We have had minimal maintenance requests in our time spent living here. Two specific times stand out: one was in the dead middle of a heat wave in July. our air conditioner broke. We put the request in, and over a week later it still wasn’t fixed/​replaced. My husband had to call several times and was given 1000 excuses. Finally, he went to the office where he found 2 maintenance employees sitting in the office talking. They gave him attitude after he asked why it wasn’t fixed, and then 20 minutes later they were in our apartment fixing it, albeit begrudgingly. The 2^nd time (we are also currently going through) is a battle of bugs. About a month ago we saw roaches in our kitchen. Maintenance came within 2 days and «sprayed» (nothing was moved, so I’m not sure where/​what they sprayed). Fast forward to just a week ago, I woke up at 5:30am with one crawling on my neck. My husband put another request in saying it was our bedroom this time and we got a personal e-​mail from the manager saying she would send maintenance out first thing on Monday. It’s now end-​of-​day Thursday with no sign of maintenance having been here. Maybe enough reviews saying there are roaches will put some pep in their step? Quickly, the 3^rd memorable time was when our screen was broken/​super old and a general p.o.s., it was letting stink bugs in so I put a request in to fix it. They put it back on the track in all of 30 seconds, but we stopped using it because bugs still got in.
Neighbors — I used to think my husband’s over-​sensitive ears were just not used to it, but it’s LOUD here. We can here everything our neighbors do! Our upstairs neighbors vacuum on Friday nights, our neighbor down the hall really likes screaming at his TV while playing Call of Duty, and my husband and another neighbor have the same shower schedule every morning. It’s also super loud because of the turnpike, but that’s unavoidable. Neighbors are inconsiderate, rude, and rarely hold doors even if you are clearly struggling with armfuls of groceries. Also there is a general sense of «i’ll park anywhere» in the parking lot, which leaves cars parked crooked, taking up 2 spots, and no one seems to care. Fire alarms are a consistent inconvenience. Rather than opening up balcony doors to air out a fragrant smoke filled apartment, people open doors into the hallway causing the smoke alarms to go off. Fire department response is lacking (up to an hour once)…thankfully there has never been a serious emergency. Last thing, I honestly feel like if I were dead in the hallway, they would step over me to get to the elevator.
Physical Apartment — The walk in closet is great! We also have 4 other closets in addition to the walk-​in, and we have managed to stuff them all — very useful though! Our apartment’s balcony door is permanently foggy/dirty.it’s probably from the 80’s. Balcony is nice, although our view is the turnpike. Appliances are old and outdated. Some walls are good to hang things on, while others are less than ½″ thick causing screws to fall right out. Kitchen counter space is AWFUL! I love to cook, but there’s no room for anything! Despite our stock in Clorox and our brand new Dyson, much to my dismay, our apartment is tainted with bugs — specifically thousand leggers, black bugs w/​red spots (I don’t know what they are?), stink bugs, and now roaches.
