Works well for us. When we have been there, one woman doing everything. The space is small, and a line forms quickly, ended up waiting outside with big bags just to get in the door. Much easier than places that want everything back organized, and boxed. Move through fairly quickly, despite the amount of activity. As a byproduct, unless you want to count along no way to be sure everything is being counted. I am happy just the same.

We get tons of empty bottles. I usually bring them to «Theo’s» on Cornell Street. They are friendly, honest, and employ UARC. Super, super service! Only problem is they close at 2PM. So– the other day, I took a truck load(literally) to County. They too were very friendly. But– we had to «shlep» 22 bags thru a small door into a small space. He told us we could come back in an hour. OK… we’ll have a glass of wine somewhere. The same truckload I brought to Theo’s got us 700 cans LESS at County, and parking is WAY better at Theo’s. Save your back and your wallet… go to Theo’s– it’s only 3 streets away!

The review here by Chris B. is NOT correct. I too had been a big fan of County Can, and his review had me worried. but after being there today I remain very pleased. They have NOT converted over to machines as the other review stated. While it is true that they are going to install super fast machines for their employees to use for processing the containers in the yard, the current method of employees manually counting your returns and then issuing your payment is still in effect and is not going to change(I had a long coversation with the proprietor about this). And they took everything I brought them with a NY symbol, and my containers are extremely varied because I clean local roads. So County Can is as good as ever in terms of the customer experience. Chris B. is correct that the hours have been cut back; they used to be open M-F all day and most of Saturday, and at present they are only open to customers on Monday morning, Friday morning, and Saturday morning. They plan to go back to full hours again once their high-speed machines get installed. In the meantime, if you come outside of the Mon/Fri/Sat morning hours, they will still accept your containers; they will take your name, count them, and have your payment ready the next time you come back during the Mon/Fri/Sat morning hours(they call this their«drop off» service). I have used this service in the past, and it has worked fine. You can read a very nice article about County Can and Bottle at I remain a huge fan of this business for three reasons: 1) Their employees are always fast and pleasant 2) It saves me a ton of time and aggravation over pushing bottles and cans through slow and failure-prone machines at supermarkets, and 3) it is really giving back to the community by offering employment to quite a few workers. Tell your friends and neighbors!
