I didn’t even know about this Hannaford — or Kingston Plaza — until a couple of years ago, when I discovered them trying to find another business. I guess that makes sense if you aren’t here frequently, because many people would visit 9W, Ulster Avenue, and Front/Wall streets. Now that I’ve been to both Hannafords in the area, I prefer this one. It’s deceptively large. That includes the specialty departments located around the perimeter of the store, the produce section, and the salad bar. One thing I appreciated, which I don’t see often in stores any more, is their center aisle running lengthwise through the store. That makes navigation a lot easier of you’re only coming in for a few things. This Hannaford doesn’t have self-serve checkouts, but they compensate by having a larger number of express registers, all of which were open today.

In general I like Hannafords, good selection and you don’t have to get a rewards card their prices are always low. The Kingston plaza one never has enough registers open. They always have lines. Today was the worst 4 registers open and at least 5 people in every line. Don’t come to this one if you are in a hurry or hate lines.

After shopping in the area for more than 10 years, I feel I am qualified to write a review for the local ‘supermarket scene’. In a word, Hannaford is a little more expensive, but MUCH more pleasant, then any of your other shopping choices in the area(except Adam’s). Their selection is pretty good(there are only a few things we can’t find here). The store is very clean and bright, and things are relatively easy to find. From best to worst: If Adam’s had a better selection, we’d shop there exclusively, but it is expensive. Hannaford is a happy medium. Shop-Rite is ok, but can be crowded, and the checkout area is crowded and cramped. Wal-Mart is a nightmare.
