Kmart

I believe there are three kinds of people in the world.
People who shop at Wal-​Mart.
People who shop at Target.
And people who shop at K-​Mart.
Wal-​Mart people scare the dickens out of me, it’s not like they’re shopping there — it’s like it’s four thirty in the morning and I interrupted them walking around their house, in their underwear, or moo-​moo — or whatever Wal-​Mart people wear to bed. People always say if there’s a zombie apocalypse there going to go to Wal-​Mart, and why not — I’m pretty sure it’s already started there, the transition from complete chaos and disarray from the inside of a Wal-​Mart would not be all that frightening at all — the hoards of undead masses might even be less frightening than the camo scrunchie crowd who stare slack jawed in the doggy treat aisle… do they even have a pet? And if they do, it’s a cat… and they ate it on a meth binge, right before they remembered they had to develop photos after midnight.
Target is another story all together, that’s a place where I feel like I could be in Wal-​Mart, if everyone wasn’t so friendly and all the Target brand products didn’t assume the look of real nice things that your mother or grandmother might furnish their own homes with. They have such a large book section that exceeds more then Nora Roberts and Stephen King, sure it’s only an aisle and a half long but still people who are going to Target are reading — they’re smart Wal-​Mart shoppers, entitled, cultured, vest-​wearing Wal-​Mart shoppers. They’re like the zombies that learn to hunt in packs, and eat your brain more efficiently while convincing you that this was going to happen: Mass-​market global takeover, at least there’s an indie band on the CD display in front of the bluray of THE HELP, which is replaced in WAL-​MART by the 5 dollar bargain bin filled to the top with Louis Gosset Jr movies and TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE FALLEN.
Then of course there’s K-​Mart, the place I feel the most comfortable. It’s not that K-​Mart is any better than the other two, it’s just that K-​Mart people are my kind of people — it’s not the frightening Tylenol chewing, pet food snacking, nothing to do but walk around wal-​mart and buy a grill, because really what are you doing if your not doing that (probably going to The Arena to see Kelly Clarkson) and it’s not the self-​entitled, elitist, I’m using a reusable bag sort — it’s the kind of people who will still buy DVDs for another ten or fifteen years, until they’re forced to get a Blu-​Ray player. My kind of people. People not so sure change is good — and maybe that’s the problem, the reason people were upset that the K-​Mart closed during the flood, is because K-​Mart people always assumed there would still be a K-​Mart, the Big K — that took good care of our shopping needs, that didn’t make anyone forge a river and go into the bleak, dark night in search of batteries or shaving cream.
Change was hard, and K-​Mart wasn’t supposed to let it happen.
Now she’s been back for a couple of years, a shining beacon of possibilities. The Martha Stewart line of linens well-​stocked. A Nathan’s Hotdogs, which calls up memories of the Coney Island of Yesteryear. Donate to the March of Dimes for the four hundredth time, or the first time ever.
K-​Mart is the Westside’s only real department store. It’s the lone hold-​out. The Wolf calling up at the moon in a silent night.

From getting flooded in August 2011, the renovation definitely help the exterior and interior. They did a great job at fixing it up.
It’s not as organized and flashy as Walmart., but then again I don’t shop at Walmart. I avoid it like the plague. It’s a bit harder to find what you’re liking for. I don’t think they have signs above each aisle describing what type of products can be found. They should.

It’s a good place to go if you need to pick up something quick and you don’t want to travel far. I live in plymouth so if I need something quick and don’t feel like traveling then I’ll go to this Kmart because it’s only 5 – 10 mins away. And that’s all that’s good about it really.
The staff is never around to help when you need it and they are not that friendly either, Which is a bit annoying considering you deal with people on a constant basis for a living, It wouldn’t hurt to act friendly for a few hours out of the day. They don’t really have a good stock of anything either. Really it’s just an average mix of all things from clothing to food to toys and electronics.
Not to mention they have a terrible return policy for video games. I bought a game that didn’t work, Literally returned it the same day about an hour later, and was told that they’d replace it but they wouldn’t give me my money back. The replacement game didn’t work either. I think they should really work on fixing their return policy, It’s very annoying to deal with.
Overall, It’s an ok place to go to if you don’t feel like traveling but you are better off going to Target to Walmart because they have a far bigger selection and far better prices.

This is our local Kmart and we shop here for all our household needs.
