If you’re looking for a Brooklyn-​esque salon experience and are within a 30 minute drive to Kingston, be sure to check out Le Shag. I should mention that I am a bit of a (proud) hair snob. I only use great, safe products and when it comes to getting a proper haircut, I am incredibly selective. I saw Kara who was absolutely WONDERFUL! She took her time in consulting with me on all of my hair issues. I just had a baby and my hair was falling out and I had an unintentional mullet… And not in the cool hipster way either. She suggested I get an Olaplex treatment to help with the breakage and was extremely thorough with my haircut. She cut it piece by piece to ensure everything was blended and I didn’t look like I had any broken hair. I am getting tons of compliments on my new ‘do and can’t wait to go back in 6 weeks! Go see KARA!!!

Le Shag is the place you want to go if you want a new look but are unsure about it. So I went in today with hair about two inches below my shoulder and wanted to get a bob. I was so scared. When I got there I was greeted by Jessie who was the stylist that was going to cut my hair. I showed her pictures about what I want to do and she was very honest with me as to how my hair was going to react to it and she was dead on. I walked out thrilled with how it came out!!! For the record, you do not have to go to the city to get a né plus ultra, hip-​yet-​professional and very, very flattering haircut. I despaired of finding someone on the east coast as good as the magical Zeon Kirchner at The Barber Lounge in San Francisco, but Jennifer is great. (Still totally love you, Zeon but it’s a hell of a commute.) Better than anyone I found in NYC and half the price.

I was in search of a great salon in the Kingston area and I’m glad I chose Le Shag. Briana cut my hair and she was awesome! I got exactly the cut I wanted and left feeling like it was money well spent. The staff is very friendly and professional, and the atmosphere reminds me of a chic urban salon. I am definitely making Le Shag my go to salon from now on!

Had a great experience getting my cut and color done by Jen. I had a total makeover, I totally trusted her and she did a great job. The salon is nice, love the music they play, the staff was very warm, highly recommend.

I had been going to the same stylist for years in New Paltz and decided to try someone new since I wasn’t happy with my last two colors. I work near Le Shag and always thought the atmosphere in there looked chic from the outside and figured I could give it a go!
I went with Kara as I read a great review of her on here. She was super sweet, friendly and listened to what I wanted. She offered me a drink and I got some coffee, which really made my first experience feel welcomed. I asked her some advice about my current balayage and ombré from my old stylist. I feel like it came out a bit brassy and wasn’t happy with the results. She let me know it’s an easy fix with toner and I could use some half head highlights to brighten up my face for the summer at my next appointment. I was so happy that she actually took the time to let me know what I needed and it made me feel like she knew what she was talking about.
My cut was fabulous! She made my hair feel alive again and cut off most of the brassy golds to make my color look more natural. I’m definitely going to see her again in May!
Highly recommend this Brooklyn-​esque chic salon to anyone who wants a city haircut without the city price. Make sure to book a week in advance.

Just got my curly hair (3a/​3b curls) cut by Jessie Lee Montague at Le Shag… and I have never been happier with a haircut (never EVER)!! Jessie cut my hair dry, which I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to convince other stylists to do for years. I walked in with a picture of what I wanted, and I walked out looking exactly like the picture — miraculous! Jessie has a great sense of style and I’m sure she would have done something great with my hair without my input… but she was very attentive to what I had to say about my hair and the style I was looking for. She cut in stages so I could decide if I wanted it more dramatic or less. Seriously, it’s been almost exactly 28 years since my first professional haircut, and I can’t remember a better one. THANK YOU, JESSIE!!! :)

Jennifer is amazing. She and the LeShag team did my and my mom’s and maid of honor’s hair and makeup and for my wedding and, without much direction — I showed her one picture and told her «like my hair, only best case scenario» — created the exact look I had in my mind. My mom and best friend also looked amazing. I mean, my mom looked seriously hot. I swear it’s the best my hair has ever looked in my entire life. Added bonus: Jennifer is really fun and calm and chill to be around, which is convenient if it’s the morning of your wedding and you’re kiiiiind of freaking out.

I have been getting my hair cut at Le Shag for years. They have most recently moved into an adorable new storefront in uptown kingston and Jen has added many new stylists at her business. Although I used to only trust Jen to cut my hair (because she’s amazing) I have recently had the pleasure of having my hair styled by Kara several times. Not only has she proved to cut my hair beautifully, she has also styled my bangs every other month. I am beyond particular about my bangs and I leave thrilled every time.
