I have been coming here for years, and there is good and bad… There is plenty of parking and some of the staff are really nice and helpful, and it is VERY kid-friendly here with supervision and lots to do in a safe environment, so that’s good. What’s really disappointing first and foremost are the HOURS. The Y closes at 9 p.m. here(as of THIS post in September 2012). The Y used to stay open until at least 10 p.m. but now it closes much too early. Instead, it keeps opening earlier and earlier(5 a. m!!! REALLY? COMEON, NOW!) There used to be wi-fi with the membership, but for several months it was DOWN, yet the employees still have internet. Now there is restricted areas downstairs for members to use wi-fi, but not all access where members work out! The membership is supposed to include the wi-fi but suddenly the wi-fi has very limited areas to where members cannot use it while working out! THIS is NOT supposed to be the way the membership goes, and I think a membership discount should be offered or at least let people know the wi-fi situation… I also don’t like how employees and members alike are very often seen eating all kinds of fast food from burger joints, pizza places and such. I walk down those halls every day, seeing and smelling everyone’s pizza slices, cheeseburgers and fries and calzones all the time. The gym is supposed to be a place of good health and fitness, and many people going there have to go through a lot of self discipline just to go there and refuse fast foods that are high in fat, carbs and calories. It does not seem fair or sensible for members to walk into a place like the Y where the mission statement upholds the policy pf building health for mind, spirit and body for all, and find greasy, high calorie fast food all over the place. The staff sits right out in the lounge or in the hall by the pool area, eating this JUNK, reeking of grease and fat. It does not promote good examples of health for those of us who are striving for it. What anyone eats is their own business — but everyone should NOT have to see it. The vending machines do not sell lots of junk and there is NO soda machines for a reason. I don’t think the staff or members should eat their nasty junk food out in the open: Let them eat it in the office or outside. Sometimes the Wellness Center upstairs gets TOOHOT and sometimes it is because the A. C breaks down, sometimes it’s because people keep opening the windows in summer time when it is too hot for that hot air to be let in there! The machines and/or T.V. screens on the exercise equipment breaks down and goes for months without repair… Same goes for the STEAMROOM in the women’s room: THAT repeatedly breaks down and can go for weeks without being fixed. The locker rooms are FULL of HAIR and they should either be cleaned better OR they should post rules for using hair ties in there for those with long hair. I really think these things could — and SHOULD be improved. On weekends, the gym actually closes by 4PM on SATURDAYS and at 1:00PM on SUNDAYS. That’s not excusable. In my opinion, this YMCA caters more to the needs of the staff than to the members. Most of us members say we would like these hours extended until at least 5 pm on the weekends, and until 10 pm during the week. The staff claims that the hours they have now are what the members prefer, but that is not the truth. Us members DONOT like how early the Y closes weekends or weekdays. We would actually like extended time from what I have heard from others who go to the Y.
